Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

A Dragon Quest VII remake is headed to the Nintendo 3DS, according to the latest issue of Jump magazine in Japan. The game will be a 3D remake of the original PlayStation game and will allow for the exchange of “lithographs” between players via StreetPass.

Dragon Quest VII on 3DS is actually not very far from release—Square Enix have it slated for February 2013 in Japan.

Hmm.. may be worth buying for sure. I still have the PS1 version, but lost the memory card that had my saves on it. Nothing like wanting to play the game and losing your 300 hours put into it...

Hmm. A portable version of this would be better than the original, assuming they trim the combat down from "ZOMG GRIND FEST". That and/or streamline some of the more boring sections.

Update: A Square Enix representative has told Joystiq that Dragon Quest VII is currently being "evaluated" for the western market. "We're currently evaluating the title for the Western markets, but nothing has been determined. Please stay tuned for more information."

DQ7 was a great game but was soooo overly long that it can become very boring at some stretches. That and the graphics were relatively poor for PSX standards. However, I am really excited about this port so I hope it makes it here.

The graphics are significantly better than the DS FF remakes and a huge upgrade over the original game, although still short of DQ8 which is mildly disappointing.

I'm actually starting to get hyped for this.
