It took two years of kicking and screaming for it, and they pulled the same shit with Bravely Default in the past also with well-after-release localizations for a company of their size. Square Enix of America just gives zero crap about handheld releases.
Will be grabbin the heck out of DQ7 though, never played the PS1 original. Undecided on 8.
You should definitely grab both. DQ7 is over of the best games I never finished while DQ8 is one of the best I did finish.

According to Nintendo, Dragon Quest VII is “basically a brand new game” on 3DS. It’ll feature entirely new writing for its western release. Additionally, random encounters have been removed, and you’ll see enemies on the map. A story summary feature and StreetPass feature that lets you gain tablets will also be included.
The same presenter also mentioned that Dragon Quest VIII will have a top-notch localization

has anyone played the JP version? i'm curious to know if it's on par with the time commitment of the PSX version. i think i sank 100+ hours into that and never even finished it. i'd love to play the game again but i don't think i could find time for something like that unless i got fired, haha.
