It's the gargoyle fight. The XIV gargoyle, not the XI gargoyle. The one where you're supposed to use the antidote, etc.

The entire reveal still feels like a minor retcon to me, but we had so little information about Ascians and Paragons that it really won't matter.
The Paragons wanted to "take people to the light of the primals" and were probably using the beastmen as a proxy to do so. During "Lord Errant" the Sylphs even mention that they think a Paragon is in the Amal'ja stronghold. On the other hand, the Ascians are pretty hands-on with their approach in ARR and it doesn't seem like they have much to do with the primals (so far). The 1.0 ascian also feels very different than the ARR ones.
I don't know, the entire thing just feels off to me but I don't really have any good reasons. I honestly think the story team saw two underdeveloped threats and simply decided to combine them.
Are The Paragons/Ascians the same as the shadowless ones too then?
Who was that fellow that stole that Horn in The Limsa missions? I remember the Lore developer guy saying to pay attention to NPCs that have and do not have shadows.
Yes, Travanchet is an Ascian (the Limsa guy you mentioned). Ascian means "shadowless" apparently, so those people without shadows are Ascians and Paragons = Ascians, so ppl w/o shadows are Paragons.
Gimme back the horn!
Some really great info in here. Some that makes you go
The unofficial official lore novel of the history of 1.0 and the legend that was The White Raven.

The Rise and Fall of the White Raven
Final Fantasy XIV Version 1.0
-------------------------------
Those that will soon journey to Eorzea for the first time had the fortune (or misfortune) of not running into a man that would forever change the face of the realm by bringing about the Seventh Umbral Era.
Nael Van Darnus was ultimately the main villain of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. What were his motivations behind Project Meteor? What were the events that lead to the invasion of Eorzea by the Garlean Empire? What happened to make Dalamud, the red moon, come down unto Eorzea and unleash the Elder Primal Bahamut?
You’re about to read the answers. To all of it.
Ah! Damnit! You beat me to it; I was reading to doublecheck its veracity.
I guess I shouldn't if it was written by Anonymoose AND Fernewhales himself haha
well that makes a lot more sense now
damn that was a pretty good read!

If someone who is really just coming into the game from a dark tunnel.
Wow, pretty nice presentation.
Also, it turns out the name I chose sorta goes with the naming convention so rock on.
So glad they put this together. It explains a lot of details the game itself glossed over or never explained. The last paragraphs are interesting as they make it clear that the Twelve deities can be summoned individually, and that merely the strength of each of them was summoned simultaneously rather then fully summoning all of them entirely. Makes me think we might be summoning them one-by-one and meeting them all at various points within the new game.
I never cared for Miqo'te naming convention... but apparently "Miya Kai" fits Keeper of the Moon's simple naming quite appropriately. Done deal~
My name is Keeper valid, but I went with Seeker. (Had to have the eyes over the fangs.)
Of course, my choice of the twelve it pmuch heretical to the lore anyway, so idgaf.
From a lore-perspective, Good King Moggle Mog XII is not a primal and is introduced as a sort of fairy tale which became real due to the effects of the Seventh Umbral Era. Due to this, we have to have a proper story for his appearance in ARR, and we will be implementing this via a scenario in patch 2.1.From a lore-perspective, Good King Moggle Mog XII is not a primal and is introduced as a sort of fairy tale which became realBAM PUT TO RESTGood King Moggle Mog XII is not a primal
That was a great read on the backstory. xiv shaping up to have some of the best final fantasy villains the series has seen in a long time, i already am getting a "kekfa" vibe from what little I saw of Nero in phase 4
Speculation:
Spoiler: show
Considering it appears to be Allagan tech and what we know of Dalamud, I'd say that's a reasonable assumption.
The Labyrinth of Bahamut so far seems to be the remnants of Dalamud/Allagan Bahamut Defense system and it's likely to continue being as such even after it fell unto Eorzea.
That said, the artwork is pretty baller and makes me wonder what's up with that wing
