Spoiler: show
A little-bit overgeneralized considering the very specific interactions of those plot devices... but whatever.
Honestly, they should have just rehired the entire XII cast.
Gerun's monologue was so damn legit (Bernice Stegers).
edit: I just realized Catherine Taber (Penelo) was cast in ARR. Any idea who she voices?
Few questions.
- Which era comes first, astral or umbral?
- Is the 7th umbral era still going on in ARR? Or what the Achrons did was them "lifting" it to usher the next astral one?
- The "other" that Garuda referred to was Bahamut, right? Because I had this crazy idea that Garuda was the second in command and a higher ranking wind type primal is waiting in slumber for her to awaken it.
-It's Umbral->Astral. 1.0 happened during the 6th Astral Era, and ended with the 7th Umbral Era, which gave way to the 7th Astral Era.
-Bahamut blowing stuff up (and I guess part of the build-up) is considered the 7th Umbral Era. The Umbral era is just the cataclysmic event, although some of them lasted a longer period of time (like the flood during the 6th Umbral Era). ARR happens during the 7th Astral Era.
-Most likely referring to Bahamut. I can't remember if it was ever clarified.
I should really clean up the OP sometime, there's a lot updated/clarified information but just thinking about it makes me so lazy Maybe I can get Rocl to clean up for me!
Had a discussion with a friend about ARR's era that lead to some of those questions. Thanks for the quick response.
Party at the Salt Strand in 5 hours.
It is 100% not the Sixth Umbral Era. If he says that it's a localization error.
Consider that 1.0 was set in the Seventh Astral Era and the closing of 1.0 / beginning of 2.0 was supposed to be due to the Seventh Umbral Era.
I don't live in a world where Six comes after Seven. You're saying the Eras go 1234576
Yes, I goofed, it's Seventh. Good eye.
But the matter I'm after is that it's still an Umbral Era currently.
The Eighth Astral is still to come.
I think the reasoning behind that it's still an Umbral Era is that the planet is still heavily wounded.
I thought the "other" is simply whatever god is giving us the power of the Echo. Even Ifrit says that we already belong to someone else when we meet him (both in 1.0 and ARR).
Rocl's minor observations (to be updated as I progress):
Minfilia is THE Antecedent and no longer simply the Acting Antecedent.
Tataru's poor penmanship is partially to blame for the Waking Sands' awful record of our activities [Legacy player problems].
Minfilia's recognition of us has been expanded since Beta 3. Thank god she gives us more, if only a little [I believe anyway]. However she can't pronounce Eorzea. (Then again who can?)
Yda's explanation of the 7UE is still the best (It used to be somewhere else, you know, but then a bunch of things happened, and we ended up here instead!)
You can find the bearded caravan companion from the opening in the Waking Sands. He will recognize you even if you weren't on the caravan. [Legacy player problems]
Like most warring countries, Garlemald makes ample use of rape during war time. Honestly was kind of surprised they addressed it.
The conjurer from the old Path of the Twelve rival adventurer gang makes her return; during Beta 3 I noticed the entire crew, now I'm only seeing her. She also suffers memory loss and is annoyed at being treated like a newb
The Caravan NPCs are all brothers who haven't seen each other since the Calamity
Based on Urianger's text the Circle of Knowing plans to leave Eorzea as soon "dawn breaks" which is a recurring phrase throughout the game
Liavinne is another Path of the Twelve NPC who's returned. Not sure who she is though
Students of Baldesion & Urianger are BFF and the SOB are p important hmm?
The entire old-school Path of the Twelve group has found each other & bro out
It's worth noting that "he" is a 'neutral' pronoun in English and JP has an actual 'neutral' pronoun. The sylphs have always used this neutral pronoun and that's why they sound like dummies. The sylph elder isn't a dude or a chick I'd wager. It's a plant.
I don't think it's as explicit in Thanalan as it is in the Shroud, but there is evidence the Ascians aid the Amal'jaa as well
Amaljic is an actual language; that means it's likely that other beast tribes have their own too
