Found a screenshot of it, you had the chance of being teleported there during the event. You weren't able to get to this area without the event because the tunnel was blocked by a web.

    Spoiler: show

You also had a chance to be teleported to a different area, in Mistbeard Cove. Another area that is blocked outside the event, if you travel to the western edge you see an area with a lot of beastmen signs. Possibly for the Sahagin.

    Spoiler: show

A small piece of dialogue from Cid that I forgot about suggested Gaius may have brought down one of his own ships in order to help us stop Nael.

    Spoiler: show

In the timeline on the front page, has Nidhogg been sleeping for 200 years? In the article Rocl posted it says he started sleeping only 2 decades ago.

There was a discussion in the first few pages of this thread about the ceruleum generators in Ul'dah. Here's some npc dialogue from the quest Ceruleum Shock.

Once the vessel is complete, it will require massive quantities of an element known as ceruleum to power its engines - which is problematic, since the element in question is not readily to be found on Vylbrand. In fact, it is not readily found anywhere in Eorzea. Anywhere, that is, except for a small swath of mountainous land located in northern Thanalan.

But as with anything of any value in and around Ul'dah, the procurement and sale of ceruleum is controlled by the covetous wretches who style themselves rulers of the region. Indeed, it is those selfsame swinish syndicateers who have recently impose a three hundred percent tariff on all ceruleum exports to Limsa Lominsa.
The timing of this decree, of course, is rather too perfect. We can only assume that someone within the Maelstrom discovered the plans of our flagship to the Immortal Flames, and that the Syndicate moved swiftly to maximize its profit.

In order to maintain a pretense of diplomacy, the Admiral has issued an official complaint to the sultana, but refrained from taking any decisive action against the city-state.
Unofficially, meanwhile, we have dispatched the Hollow Barons to the ferry docks at Vesper Bay to carry out some…shall we say…'business'. If all goes to plan, entrusting this mission to the pirates will demonstrate our willingness to work together, rendering future cooperation more likely., If all does not go to plan, however, and the villains are caught in the act, we can always shrug our shoulders, cry "Pirates will be pirates!" and deny any involvement. The company wins either way.

These being pirates, of course, it would be madness to trust them entirely, even given the apparent perfection of our plan. That is why we have elected to send you as an escort. You will keep your head down, aid the crew in their operation, and report back to us if anyone happens to step out of line.

    ...

Even the realm's natural flow of aetheric energy has been disrupted. All aether would - should pass through Silvertear Lake upon returning to the Land, but it now appears that something is bending the energy's course - drawing it away.

This has upset the balance of all life and matter in Eorzea. It is why the weather has become unpredictable, why creatures have grown large and fierce, why crystals are losing their aspect.

Quite what could be drawing the aether, and what will happen if this phenomenon is allowed to continue, I cannot say. but what I can tell you with absolute certainty is that your petty quarrels over money and power are as grains of dust compared to the sandstorm that boils just over the horizon.

    ...

Now, let us make this brief. You asked what I was doing in northern Thanalan. well, I was studying the aetheric currents flowing through the ceruleum gorges on their way to Silvertear Lake.

As I fruitlessly attempted to explain to those brutes back in the cavern, I believe the natural flux of all energy in Eorzea, and the influence it exerts upon its surroundings, has been disturbed by an external force, resulting the queer phenomena that have been observed throughout the realm.
As to the origin of this force, my studies point to the lesser moon, Dalamud, as the most likely suspect.

Added Allagan stuff to the timeline. I'll add all the Empire stuff somewhere at some point too.

    Thanks for the findings Aerin.

EDIT: I wonder if there's any info somewhere about the Fourth era? It goes 4th Umbral > 4th Astral > 5th Umbral (this happens over ~2500 years) between the end of the Allagan Empire (during the 3rd Astral Era) and the establishment of whatever cities reform the Grand Companies of Eorzea (during the 5th Astral Era).

They're not necessarily indigenous, they were just the first to get there, they're described as being a nomadic people in the official description.

A bit semantic, but it's worth noting that implies Eorzea doesn't have a truly indigenous people.

Also I don't know if it's ever stated but as far as I can tell the Garleans are primarily highlander humes considering Darnus, Gaius, and all of the high ranking NPC enemies (centurions etc, the guys with the masks) are all so tall (Cid's regular-hume in height but much bulkier). The rank and file are of all races except highlander humes and considering they conscript people from conquered lands it makes sense. We also know the highlander humes consider Ala Mhigo their "ancestral home" and it's right between us and Garlemald.

It's between us and the Garlean borders - Garlemald shouldn't be close to Eorzea. It would make a lot more sense if Garlemald was further north-east, since both the northern continent (where Garlemald originated) and the eastern continent were conquered before the Eorzean campaign started.

Also Darnus should be an elezen based on his /bow animation. I wouldn't draw conclusions about the Garlean races yet.

Think you're right, I just looked back at some SS's from the fight with him and he's way, way tall.

Also it seems likely that Darnus Sr. (who as said rose in rank because of his knowledge of Allag tech) knew about Meteor but may have been unwilling to divulge it because he thought it was too dangerous, Darnus Jr. probably went to the emperor and pretty much said "I kill my old man, you make me legatus, and I tell you all about Meteor, dig?".

The Cid-Gaius relationship is also really interesting, Midas and Gaius were "friends" and Cid was apparently raised largely in the Baelsar household after Midas was sent off to work on Meteor. It's sort of a cousin/uncle relationship and in that context the CSs we see involving the two and the independent dialogue when they talk about one another all make a lot more sense.

Cid defies the empire outright and is considered a traitor but due to their relationship, and their mutual opposition to Meteor, Gaius is always unwilling to treat Cid as an outright enemy.

edit: also are we ever told what happened to Midas? I don't remember if it's ever stated whether he died or not but he's usually referred to in the past tense, would make sense if he ate it at Bozja.

During the quest Like Father, Like Son you use your Echo power to witness an exchange between Cid and Nael. It takes place below Mor Dhona where the last stone in the Living on a Prayer quest was, it's known as The Crypt of Xandes I (not sure if that's widely known and I just forgot).

The Garleans were once on the verge of uncovering its secrets, but then... a great tragedy befell Bozja Citadel. The lunar transmitter was damaged beyond repair, and Garlemald laid its Meteor ambitions to rest.
It sounds like Cid's dad was killed at Bozja Citadel, and that might be where the Empire first learned of the civilizations secrets. Maybe what happened there is they hadn't mastered the device yet and brought down something else instead on accident (as was hypothesized earlier). But that's all just conjecture on my part.

There's a bit more dialogue but that's what I found interesting. You can watch the CS here.

Rocl found a few screenshots yesterday (I imagine he'll post them here later) which confirm it was a beam of light from Dalamud that destroyed Bozja, not a different star. Given all the information we have, I think we can finally put most of this matter to rest.

    The first Meteor Project
-The Garleans tried to bring Dalamud down with Meteor ten years ago (most likely after the defeat at Silvertear Falls). They planned to land it on the beast tribes.
-Cid's dad, Midas, was in charge of the project.
-The lunar transmitter (an allagan artifact used to communicate with Dalamud) was set up inside the Bozja Citadel, a bastion of Allag knowledge in the Garlean lands.
-They didn't seem to know how to use the transmitter (they lacked enough/the correct allagan runestones?) and Dalamud shot a beam at Bozja, destroying the entire city (Cid's dad was killed inside).

I'll post the entire thing in the OP when Rocl posts the screenshots.

New questions arise, of course. Few things to discuss or gather information for:

[1]-Relationship between Gaius and Midas (pretty much confirmed that they were close friends at this point).
[2]-We know the van Darnus family kept the allagan's secrets, and we know most of the files about the allag empire were kept in Bozja. Did the Citadel belong to House Darnus, or was it simply a place where the Empire kept the allag information? (most likely supplied by the van Darnus family either way).
[3]-Was Nael involved in the first Meteor project? (screenshots/text point towards no, but it might be interesting to figure out).
[4]-We know from Darnus that the difference between the first and second Meteor project were the runestones, and that's why he's able to control the landing this time around. Can we iron out any details about this?

I know a couple details are in the screenshots from the last pages. I'll try to reread them all when I have some more free time.
    -------

    Couple guesses:
    Spoiler: show

[3]-If Nael or his dad had been involved, then I don't think the first project would've gone badly. I agree with Niiro's post above: Darnus Sr. probably knew more about Meteor than he told the Empire, and Nael rose to power after offering to divulge what his father knew. Would explain why he became the favorite of the Emperor and why nobody cared when he publicly executed his father's loyal men. This would sort of answer [2] too: the Citadel probably didn't belong to House Darnus if they weren't involved in the first project.

[4]-Now this is a pretty long shot and it sort of builds off Rocl's theory, but.. to control Dalamud's fall you need two things: the lunar transmitter, and runestones. Maybe the runestones are sort of a "map" which give a specific path to Dalamud, so you'd need runestones which map the area you want to destroy. This would explain why Dalamud's beam was directly shot at Bozja (which contained allagan runestones plus the transmitter) and why Darnus seems confident in being able to control Dalamud in 1.0 (he's gathering Eorzean runestones via Roclwena).

Bahamut is actually an ancient Allag construct as well, his armour is reminiscent of the redalamudding therefore the Allagans made the Primals, BAM SUCKA (this is a joke)

But yeah I went through that Onizuka guy's blog yesterday because he has a habit of taking way more screenshots than me so there's this "proof" thing for people who somehow can't take wild theories at their word.

Bahamut said fuck you to Bozja (or Allagan security device?: WARNING DO NOT METEOR, DRAGON INSIDE) http://static2.finalfantasyxiv.com/a...TMWBFyNvcQ.jpg

Either way, beam of light wipes Bozja off the face of the planet. Whether or not Cid/Darnuses were involved idfk. I'm willing to bet Cid knew exactly what was going on though considering this screenshot (which I believe was posted earlier, but look at the text box this time okay?) http://static2.finalfantasyxiv.com/a...PaSELtn_M0.jpg

So Cid and the rest of Garlond Ironworks saw Bozja and were like NOEP and gtfo'd

Urianger's kind of a douchebag, but anyways, did we ever figure out the difference between the Circle of Knowing and Archons? Both Y'shtola and Urianger refer to the group as "we Archons" so I guess to get a seat you gotta be an Archon. Then, aren't the Archons something like physical manifestations of the Twelve on Eorzea? Or at the very least their chosen mortal to be a bro for them and do shit? Or is that all bullshit and Archon means we know what the Twelve really are: giant fucking keys, so uh, keep worshiping and anthropomorphising them

also i went off the rails with the above for a bit:
    Spoiler: show
    o god
Thaliak is Llymlaen's dad, I mentioned that before and she's mad into saving us being a spying seagull
but he's also Byregot's teacher-- could Urianger be Byregot? Byregot is associated with building shit like the rebuilding of Eorzea
Urianger didn't appear to be at the Battle of Carteneau nor praying at any place we could see (thought maybe he was at Xandes)
    CUZ HE"S MAKING BLUEPRINTS

    URIANGER IS BYREGOT

I don't remember anything else interesting currently other than the Baelsar/Garlond relationship. The way I understood it, Cid was all grown up, or at least an older teen (old enough to command the respect of his dad's company) during Bozja. I'm not quite certain Cid was raised among Gaius' household, but they were certainly close family friends. The way Cid talks Gaius also used to have a lot more pull in the Garlean court or w/e but has fallen out of favour (though this was in respect to Nael, and Gaius having to take orders from him) but I can't imagine him staying that way in 2.0 after Nael was batshit crazy

also here's a pretty picture of Nael becoming Deus and you can make out some keylocktwelve
    http://static2.finalfantasyxiv.com/a...TMU4Q2Il6A.jpg

  10. #130

To say Cid was raised by the Baelsar household was reading into it a bit too much I guess, the dialogue just emphasizes that Gaius and Cid had a close relationship due to his friendship with Midas.

Also I pondered this a long time ago but it seems very odd to me how they plan to handle new chars in 2.0 sharing their history with PCs from 1.0 while having never experienced 1.0s events.

"Yea you were this accomplished adventurer and did all this epic shit and participated in this huge world ending battle yet somehow you're lvl 1, oh btw this is Cid and you're apparently total bros with quite a bit of history".

I'm wondering how they plan to handle that in a way that's not overly ham-handed.

I would hope there would be at least a few places where the dialogue is different on a new character vs an older character.

I'm sure they'll have some quests in the early storyline that will explain what happened before 2.0. Possibly through some cutscenes. Or they won't care at all and continue with an adjusted 1.0 storyline and not even mention the 7th umbral era story arc.

I'm almost 100% sure I saw a screenshot that said the Archons were manifestations (or reincarnations) of the Twelve, but I've been through so many SS's and websites lately I can't remember where the heck it was. I'm busy today so won't be able to find it til later.

    I'm pretty certain they are.

The 'Hatching-Tide' (Easter) quests were all about the Archons, so that dialog and related Lodestone posts should hold all that information although I'm being lazy right now.

I believe the only Archon that is mentioned in dialog that we don't see or encounter is a Roegadyn named Ahldbhar that embodies Rhalgr (which is the patron deity of Ala Mhigo). Louisoix obviously embodies Thaliak.

I don't think there has been any specification about who Yda, Papalymo, Thancred, Urianger, or Y'shtola represent although some assumptions can be made based on where they are seen during the End of an Era scene, which is also where they are encountered during Living on a Prayer:

    Louisoix = Thaliak (water/wisdom/Sharlayan)
    Y'shtola = Llymlaen (wind/navigation/Limsa Lominsa)*
    Yda & Papalymo = Nophica (earth/abundance/Gridania)*
    Thancred = Nald'thal (fire/commerce/Ul'dah)*
    Ahldbhar = Rhalgr (lightning/destruction/Ala Mhigo)
    Urianger = BYREGOT??? (lightning/industry/???)*
    ??? = Halone (ice/war/Ishgard)
    ??? = Azeyma (fire/inquiry/???)
    ??? = Althyk (earth/time/???)
    ??? = Nymeia (water/fate/???)
    ??? = Oschon (wind/vagrants/???)
    ??? = Menphina (ice/love/???)

    *assumed

Some Hatching-Tide crap as I come across it:

The remaining Archons then began to sing, reciting the one hundred and twenty verses of the Dreamer's Gospel
I guess there's a song related to the Archons, with each Archon having 10 verses.

knock yourself out. if the Circle of Knowing really are embodiment of the 12 do we know if Ahldbhar is contemporaneous with this cycle? I mean, I know I found that dialogue somewhere (actually I found it off some lodestone blog, but I deffo recall reading it)

if we're throwing out haphazard guesses here, I imagine the voice in the beginning / Answers henceforth referred to as Susan, is one of the Twelve herself, or some higher being but then there is no basis for that, but the idea she 'wakes' us and in Futures Perfect the Archons make a big deal out of finding out who have Awoken us, referring to the being as "the One" which is now all sorts of contradictory kind of cuz shouldn't they know who did it? Unless one of the Twelve did it on a whim w/o consent or the Archons are just as oblivious to the dealings as the Gods as us, so while they may be aspects/reincarnations/avatars of the Twelve they aren't the Twelve themselves

Which means the Archons are either searching for a member of the Twelve who've given us the Echo, or they know who and are looking for them, or perhaps some other Aether Being was "lolechos" I know a lot of the 1.0 story is being reworked to account for the 7th Umbral Era, but I had sworn they said it wasn't scrapped entirely

I had always gone with Susan being Llymlaen on account of seagulls (I mean the end of Futures Perfects puts a big fucking emphasis on the bird, who the Archon(s) stare at after its arrival while talking to us, then nod to it and vanish in a blue light then that seagull flies away like it's hot shit and knows something we don't fucking seagull why are you even in Mor Dhona)

However perhaps it is instead Nymeia, but I still like Llymlaen so if we're throwing out guesses:

Louisoix - Thaliak (second candidate Althyk, but doubtful)
    Urianger - Byregot (Oschon?)
Yda - Halone? Menphina? idfk I always thought of her as Rhalgr tbh
    Paplymo - Rhalgr? Nald'thal?
    Thancred - Oschon? Nald'thal?
Y'shtola - Llymlaen? Nymeia? Menphina? Azeyma? I hate this bitch idfk

PS: Rewatching Living on a Prayer and Louisoix says "If I can but see you to a new future, I would want for nothing more" QQQQQQQQQQQQQ

Oddly enough, this archon Ahldbhar is an alleged traitor, having sided with his enemies before not being seen again.

Ahldbhar (an Archon in the form of a Roegadyn said to be Rhalgr the Destroyer himself) fought relentlessly against a clan of wicked sorcerers that sought only to wreak havoc on the world through their dark powers. But then, something happened… Something that threw Ahldbhar into deep despair. And in the end, he turned and took up with the enemy, though none can say as to why.
Eorzeapedia being kaput is really making this difficult to figure out. >:|

Also, here's probably a more official explanation of Atomos from the GMs that would spawn at camps (probably as Urianger):
Hear my words if you are in search of truth…
The disaster in Hydaelyn is imminent…
The time of awakening has come for those who are preparing to tackle the chaos in motion…
The future is not immutable… You can still change it…
When the sixth sun will have set and the seventh moon shine in the sky, the ocean of clouds poured a rain of fiery flames and shadows fatal burst forth from the depths of the earth…
The “Seventh Purification” predicted by Mezaya approaches…
You who are in search of truth… wake up and put yourself against the imminent threat…
Atomos very much sounds like a FF7 weapon, being born from Hydaelyn itself to kill off anything near where its aether flows (aetheryte).

    FF4:
    Spoiler: show
The Red Moon is the smaller of the two moons orbiting the Earth in Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. The Lunarians dwell in the Red Moon in their Lunar Sleep, as do the Hummingway and Bahamut. It has eight Crystals.

    lol'd

o god the more i look up/remember of FF4 it kind of fits:
the only person to cast Meteor other than a Lunarian is Tellah who dies (Bozja Citadel)
the Allagans are our Lunarians, a technologically advanced ancient race who can cast Meteor np and look like normal bros

okay anyways, i hate an actual point here.
something about Bahamut's Labyrinth (have we seen concept art yet)? I imagine the big "keys" will teleport us to different areas of it, hence why finding them is important and what-not
also the Labyrinth is totally on the moon (It's Menphina right? Named after the Goddess?) and that's where he goes after the ARR trailer cuz he's like I'm gonna chill up here and get some moon aether and become NEO BAHAMUT

i'm sorry there's not a whole lot to talk about anymore and i want to talk about it ): gdi

edit: nael can be golbez or cid/gaius can have the cecil/golbez thing

Well technically Palom can cast Meteor and so can Rydia
    Spoiler: show
(she does have Lunarian blood though).

And no, I don't think they've released any concept art of the Labyrinth yet. We only know that it's supposed to explain a few things about what happened after the ending video (Louisoix's fate, how the world recovered, what happened exactly, etc.), it'll be updated in the span of 1 year and a half and it'll be the hardest raid at launch.

So you're saying Hydaelyn had a bad case of the 'moon snails' eh?
