The vanilla OST credits Mizuta/Tanioka/Uematsu.
The RoZ/CoP/TAU/WoG OSTs all credit Mizuta exclusively.
Spoiler: show
Please stop calling them songs. They're pieces, or tracks, or BGM. Anything but songs. There are no fucking sung words. There is nothing remotely song-like about them.

I wasn't really a fan of most of XII's music, although I really liked the game (besides the terrible storyline). The music wasn't bad, I just think ambient music doesn't tend to work as well as thematic music in RPGs. In RPGs you spend long periods of time in certain areas, and having distinct musical themes helps to create strong sensory associations with particular places. I think ambient music works incredibly well for horror games especially (look at Silent Hill) when you're trying to evoke a very specific atmosphere and weave the sound design into the narrative pacing of the game. But in RPGs, and MMOs especially, developers have comparatively little influence over how players pace their gameplay experience, and so ambient music loses a lot of its potential.
But of course, as with every discussion about XIV's aesthetics, that's just my opinion.
Somebody has to have posted this already... right? I did a quick look and didn't see it.
Yes, caveman :D
Clearly, this is new, and all you people are from the future.

I don't really have anything to do add since you nailed what I was about to post, so I'll just say I agree completely. Ambient music just doesn't create that link between "theme and area/experiencie" for me. I have no doubt I'll still like the new XIV music, but there's no way it's going to have the same lasting impact as XI's (or other FF's for that matter) did.
Yep, right when the screen goes white with Louis on screen.
Ahah found it, it was only in one thread which hasn't had any activity in it for over a week. Silly me for thinking it would have at least been posted once in the Letter from the Producers, Comments from the Devs, or any other active threads.
Who was that other dude in the video, the one in Solracht's avatar?
That's Cid O.o
Am I the only one around here who mutes their games and cranks out their own jams while they play?
