obviously there was a tonal shift as well as art style, but I think the end result is a lot more appealing/memorable

Don't you ruin my ZX Spectrum joke you fucking son of a bitch.

(Seriously, that shit was perfect. Those are the exact colors that eye-searing system was known for, though admittedly muted. How often do you get to make a joke like that?)

Rumor: Rare Game to be a New IP
Retro Studios is one of Nintendo's most valuable assets right now, having delivered smash hits in the form of the Metroid Prime Trilogy and Donkey Kong Country Returns. We all know that the company is working on something for the Wii U, and we'll no doubt see what that is at this year's E3. However, no one seems to know exactly what Retro has in development — rumours are circulating that it's another Metroid, a fresh take on a different Nintendo franchise or something completely fresh and new.

That final guess has been given a bit more weight by IGN. During a Super Metroid video, it was mentioned that Retro is working on a brand new title. Check out the video around the 24 minute mark to hear the comment.

Fans will be treated to LIVE multi-platform coverage of all the action taking place at E3.

Spike TV's "E3 All Access Live" will provide viewers with nearly 20 hours of LIVE coverage over two days, including exclusive television broadcast access to the highly-anticipated XBOX: A New Generation of Games and Entertainment and EA media showcase featuring ground-breaking news, gaming trailers and demos starting on Monday, June 10. This is the fourth year in a row Spike TV will be exclusively airing the Xbox media briefing on television and the third year in a row it will be exclusively airing the EA media showcase.

"This is the E3 we've been waiting for," said Jon Slusser, Senior Vice President, Sports and Multi-platform Programming, Spike TV. "After years of anticipation, E3 2013 will showcase the next generation of technology that will change the entertainment landscape. As the official broadcaster of E3, we're excited that Spike will be the destination to see it all first."

Considered to be the ultimate event in the video game industry, the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo runs June 11-13, 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. "E3 All Access Live" will kick-off its multi-platform coverage on Spike TV, in HD, from Los Angeles one day before the event is open to the public on Monday, June 10 (Noon-5:30pm ET/ 9:00am-2:30pm PT) and continue at 5:30-11:00pm ET / 2:30-8:00pm PT. The live special will also be supported through additional digital pre and post shows as well as through online simulcasts.

The on-air sponsors of Spike TV's "E3 All Access Live" are Hyundai Motor America and Pizza Hut, and Capcom's Remember Me will serve as the show's digital sponsor.

"E3 All Access Live" will be supported on Spike TV through "GTTV with Geoff Keighley," "All Access Weekly" and "Playbook 360;" online on Spike.com and GameTrailers.com; socially through its Facebook and Twitter feed @SpikeTV and through mobile phones and tablets including iPhone, iPad and Android devices, as well as on the big screens in New York City's Times Square.

Ubisoft Unveils Games Lineup for a Pivotal E3

Today, Ubisoft revealed its lineup of titles for what the company expects to be one of the most significant editions of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in years. At 3 p.m. PDT on June 10, Ubisoft leads off with an invitation-only media briefing at the Los Angeles Theatre that will feature first looks at Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup, including exclusive next-generation games, innovative editions of popular franchises and new brands and titles.

Following the press conference, E3 attendees can visit Ubisoft’s booth to check out a number of highly anticipated games, including Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Rayman Legends, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs and more. Throughout the week, there also will be a number of special guests and live performances at the booth.

“This is a pivotal moment for the video game industry, and E3 is the opportunity for us to share our vision for the future,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO, Ubisoft, “We have many incredible games in development, and we’re especially excited to share more on our next-gen titles, which will deliver more connected, immersive and interactive experiences to our fans.”

As the industry transitions to a new console cycle, past market trends and Ubisoft’s internal estimates indicate that within two years the next-gen consoles’ installed base could double that of the previous generation over a comparable period. Ubisoft’s cross-studio collaboration structure allowed the company’s creative teams to get an early start on the transition, with next-gen games like Watch Dogs already scheduled for release this year and more next-gen titles to be announced during E3.

In addition to its E3 activities, Ubisoft is creating the Uplay Lounge, a space near the Los Angeles Convention Center designed to give select Uplay members hands-on experience with Ubisoft’s E3 lineup and the opportunity to discuss their favorite titles with members of Ubisoft’s development teams. Uplay will have pre-show coverage and a live broadcast of Ubisoft’s media briefing.

Ubisoft’s media briefing will also be available to watch live or on demand on Ubisoft’s YouTube channel and press partners are welcome to embed the YouTube live video feed on their site using the embed link. All of Ubisoft’s videos and trailers will be available on YouTube

I wonder if I can find out if the two people we're sending at work are considered "industry". We make games, but not for consoles. I'd be surprised if we did count as industry.

The casino gaming industry does count as in industry. My buddies and I have been going to E3 for the last 5 years (minus last year when my son was born) on industry passes. My work was giving us free time off for it but not paying our expenses so we paid airfare and hotel.

Good to know. I know we're sending a couple of people, but I'm actually thinking it's expenses paid for them. I may nose around to see if it is or not. I may have to make some plans for next year :D
