Tiger won the Arnold Palmer invitational at Bay Hill, his 8th win there and 3rd PGA tour win this season, reclaimed world #1 ranking which he lost in Oct 2010.

Woods has three wins this season. This is the earliest that the 37-year-old former Stanford star has had three wins in a year since 2008, when he won the most recent of his 14 major championships, at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
Putting pretty much better than he ever has.

After going two full seasons without an official win, Woods has six victories in his past 20 starts on tour.

University of Minnesota women's hockey team finished up a perfect 41-0-0 season for its 2nd title in a row. 49 wins in a row going back to last year. With most of their core players coming back next year it's scary to think how much longer they can run that streak.

How many colleges actually field women's hockey teams?

More than 2. Less than men's hockey. Expanding more every year. 35 confirmed D-1 teams next year.

Amanda Kessel (Phil's sister) put up some crazy stats, like 40+ goals and 100 points in 40 games or something. Maybe the Leafs should sign her.

    Couldn't hurt, she's a beast, and only a junior.

Couldn't find the soccer thread easily, gave up. But this is awesome:

In front of more than 3,000 Portland Timbers faithful – converted for a day to support a special wish made possible by the club, the Timbers Army and Make-A-Wish® Oregon – eight-year-old Atticus Lane-Dupre netted four goals, including the game-winner in the waning moments of the match, to power The Green Machine to a 10-9 victory over the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field Wednesday afternoon in Portland, Ore.

The Timbers teamed up with Make-A-Wish® Oregon to grant the wish to Atticus, who learned he had cancer in the fall of 2011 and missed his last soccer game of the season with his teammates on The Green Machine.

When Atticus had the chance to make a wish, he chose to scrimmage the Timbers at JELD-WEN Field, home of the Timbers. On why he chose to play the Timbers for his wish, and be able to include his teammates:
Because usually kids just choose to go to Disneyland with their family or getting something and I chose something that lots of people could do.

The most amazing part to me is that 3,000 people showed up in the middle of the day on a Wednesday. They rehearsed chants for the kid's team (Green Machine), they brought banners, everything. The video screen had the full starting lineups for both teams, a national anthem was sung, everything.

That was fucking awesome. So much better than the usual spend a day watching Shaq practice, then get a signed jersey wishes.

Yeah that's why it's so amazing. I'm not a die-hard soccer fan but I would much rather do that than something like Viq said, it looks like a blast.

At a time when college athletics is overrun with rogue agents, unscrupulous coaches and handlers who exploit athletes for money, it's reassuring to know not every unrepentant rule-breaker goes unpunished.

Hearty congratulations to the NCAA for penalizing a student-athlete from a West Coast Conference school for the unspeakable crime of washing her car with the university's water and hose.

Portland basketball coach Eric Reveno tweeted about the violation Wednesday after he learned of it during conference meetings, punctuating his message with the hashtag #stopinsanity. A spokesman for the WCC did not know any further details, but a source familiar with the circumstances revealed what happened.

A WCC school self-reported an extra benefits violation to the NCAA when university officials caught one of their women's golfers washing her car on campus, according to the source. The NCAA ruled a secondary violation had occurred because the water and hose were not available to regular students and requested the golfer pay back $20, which was deemed to be the value of the water and use of the hose.

That school administrators actually reported the violation and NCAA officials followed through with a penalty is equal parts hilarious and exasperating. What's next? Charging athletes by the sip at drinking fountains? Or by the gallon after locker room showers?
