First Details about Killer Is Dead, the New Game from No More Heroes’ Creator

Killer Is Dead is the upcoming action game from the folks behind No More Heroes and Killer7. The game follows 35 year-old Mondo Zappa, a suit-wearing executioner responsible for taking out heinous criminals with a katana.

A gun that can turn into a drill is embedded in Zappa's left hand—an augmentation he has no memory of getting. The weapon becomes increasingly powerful during the game, and it can be used to absorb enemies' blood for a powerful "Adrenalin Burst" slash attack. Also included in the blood is "dark matter", which can apparently be changed into energy.

The American born Zappa works at an "executioner's office", managed by Brian Rozen, who was also augmented, to become a world-class executioner.

Joining Zappa is his boss at Rozen's firm, the cat-suit wearing 25 year-old British born Vivienne Squall. Mika Takekawa, 20, is Zappa's assistant. After an earlier incident, she met Zappa and then started living with him because she can make excellent soft boiled eggs, his favorite dish.

Then, there's the evil Victor, a criminal who is dressed kind of like Mozart—if Mozart had glowing eyes, skeletal features, and green skin. Victor manipulates human emotion through song and aims to bring evil to the world.

Besides the international characters, the game uses various backdrops, such as old Western houses and Japanese buildings.

Previously, Goichi Suda said that Killer Is Dead is not a sequel to Killer 7, but that the new game does take cues from the previous title. The cel-shaded artwork does have a Killer 7 vibe to it.

Killer Is Dead will be out this summer in Japan on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Report: XSEED publishing Killer is Dead in the US

Superannuation is like the videogame industry spy, filling in the void that Surfer Girl left behind years ago. Or maybe they're the same person?!

In any case, Superannuation caught XSEED registering the killerisdead-game.com domain. XSEED also registered killandlove.com and loveandkill.com, which may be tied to marketing efforts for Suda51's next title.

Seems like the thing to do now is for Japanese developers is to publish through XSEED in the US. The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and now hopefully Killer is Dead will join a plethora of other Japanese games that XSEED have brought over.

Killer Is Dead’s Asia Version Has English Text And Dual Language Option

Sony Computer Entertainment Asia announced they will distribute the PlayStation 3 version of Killer is Dead. The Asian release won’t be available until this fall, but their release has multiple language options. Players will be able to select English, Japanese or Chinese text and English or Japanese voiceovers.

Xseed and Deep Silver will release Killer is Dead this summer in North America and Europe, respectively. It isn’t clear if the Western release will have Japanese voiceovers as an option.

Kadokawa Games and Grasshopper Manufacture have released the third trailer for Killer is Dead, showing some of the lovely ladies Mondo will encounter.

You’ll see the previously revealed Natalia, voiced by Kanako Tojo, Scarlett, voiced by Manami Numakura, and 20-year-old new girl Koharu, voiced by Mai Nakahara, also called “The Golden Geisha.” A Famitsu preview also teases a second new girl named named Betty, who will be detailed in a follow-up report.

The report also details “Scarlett Missions.” Lurking throughout various stages is Scarlett, a scantily clad nurse you can find by breaking objects or entering hidden doors, watching Mondo’s every activity. Find her and she’ll issue a “Self-Challenge” for Mondo to complete, which can vary between defeating an enemy within a certain amount of time, defeating an enemy using only skills, or racking up a certain number of combo hits. Scarlett is aroused by such activity, and will gradually become more attracted to Mondo as he clears her challenges.

This is an action game in which players assume the role of a cyborg that hunts down criminals in a futuristic world. Players use a katana blade to stab and slash at various enemies (e.g., humans, robots, creatures) in frenetic combat. Large blood-splatter effects occur frequently during battle; decapitation and dismemberment of enemies are also depicted. Cutscenes also contain intense instances of violence, including close-up views of death/decapitation: a villain stabbing himself in the stomach; a man shot in the head; a character's head sliced off. Players also have the ability to collect enemy body parts as spoils of battle (to increase cyborg's skills/abilities). During the course of the game, characters sometimes engage in suggestive/sexual behavior: one cutscene depicts a man and a woman caressing and grinding against each other (moaning sounds can be heard); in several mini-games, players earn points for looking at women's cleavage and crotch area, though no nudity is depicted.

Premium Edition Details

Kadokawa Games will release Killer is Dead on August 1. People will be able to pick up a Premium Edition for the same price as a vanilla game.

The Killer is Dead premium edition has a reversible jacket on top and a code to download "Beauty & The Beast & The Lingerie." Killer is Dead also has three more bonuses – the Temptation of Miss Vampire gigolo mission, an extra episode where Mondo is an executioner, and a peeping tool that helps during gigolo missions.
