it was a very brave decision. i remember reading that XIV's redevelopment was completely decided internally and that they dipped straight into the company's reserves to do it, to set it right. i really do hope it becomes the next big thing.. because the game is incredible as far as i can tell after experiencing it.

that and I'm also tired of hearing that WoW is still the dominant MMO in the market, considering how technology has improved and the game itself is looking very dated.
the 3rd paradigm of MMOs should have come by now...

I do hope XIV will become it. considering how all the other WoW clones totally floundered... if something doesn't become a game-changer, the market is just going to stagnate even further.

Its still going to be the dominant MMO in the market because of a combination of its ease of access and so many already being tied to it. Many of the "new subs" each expansion are simply people who quit and have returned for the fresh content.

I don't care about numbers with 2.0. I want enough to where, if there's content that needs a team, I'll have a team. All I want is a good, modern game, not something crafted from the stone ages, yet without the attention to detail that those ancient crafts contained.

FFXI has easily proven that you don't need anywhere near 1 mil subs to turn a fat profit on a MMO, and XI's financial success was done pretty much without microtransactions (aside from those 3 mini-expansions).

I don't mean to spark a whole nother conversation, but honestly don't see FFXIV becoming a huge MMO even if its perfect. Just no one has their eye on this game outside of everyone who already cares about FF MMOs.

But I couldn't care less if it doesn't have a stellar population because I'm gonna play the shit out of this regardless. :D

Think of it in comparison to the 49ers. They were complete trash until they cleared house, changed every scheme and system, and put the pieces of the puzzle together. First year NFC Championship. Second year Super Bowl.

Just quick input: There is room for 2 big MMORPGs, 1 spot is taken by WoW, the 2nd is flavour of the month/quarter of a year, and that spot is currently taken by GW2, and will later switch to Elderscrolls online. :D

Then we have the long list of games like Rift, solid games, not huge playerbase. That's where FFXIV will fit in.
