Honestly, the biggest reason I wanted to do it was because I felt it was almost criminal to deny any child the chance to join a group that at its core, promotes caring for others, being charitable and building communities. I'm staunchly athiest, but those are still damn good values to have.

You honestly think that these huge investors would pour their money into a new start-up BSA-clone? It would take years to prove themselves to investors, especially considering the amount of national recognition you would need. Definitely not something that can be done so simply as you seem to make it sound.

yeah, the infrastructure alone is enough to make it worthwhile to get the scouts to be more accepting

Why do Americans have such a hard-on for the boy scouts? Serious question btw. It seems to be in the spotlight way more often than it should be for the kind of organization it is (summer camps for kids or something?)

Boy Scouts operate all year round, and a lot of kids who start in Cub Scouts can spend a decade or more in the program. I found a lot of value in their approach to teaching some outdoorsmanship, as well as many good qualities, like accepting others, being charitable, being active in your community, and others. My troop, at least, didn't really put a big focus on the Christianity aspect of it, and as a non-believer, I didn't feel any pressure.

Here's the cold hard truth for you: religion is never a reason, it's always an excuse.
What IS a reason, and in this case the real reason behind the fear/hatred for gays, is power.
Homophobic people are scared of gays eventually reaching the point where they have more rights/power/money than them, so they want to keep them in check.

Honestly, I think this is partially justified because LGBT associations have made it clear that they don't simply aim for equality but they want more.

Back on topic, if a gay kid REALLY wants to join boy scouts, said kid could always remind himself that people can control their instincts and pretend to be straight.
I can't imagine it being that hard.

Why should any Gay child or teen have to hide who they are just because the people around them are ignorant and stupid as hell ?

Aside from any of your personal views that someone should have to hide who they are because of old, white bigots, there is still the larger hypocrisy that an organization that teaches tolerance and acceptances of others excluding people.

Also, just like, go learn things.

I'd also like to know how lgbt orgs make it clear they want more power than straights. And i am hoping nobody is gonna try to use as an example something they dug up from the bowels of the internet or some fringe element they accidentally happen to have focused on as an example.

I got in a stupid facebook argument with some guy I went to high school with. He was insisting that radical feminism was rendering this generation's women un-marriageable. He kept using these obviously radical anecdotes to support his point and I just couldn't deal with it. Why do people latch on to the crazy shit that a small percentage of a population do?

Eagle Scout here, the only thing I found incredibly disturbing while I was in was the order of the arrow. Tons of creepy old men in the lodge with basically no other adults around and a bunch of boys

They're basically using strawmen. It's not so much that they saw a hardcore feminist or a pink bible thumping gay and suddenly they think all gay and feminist people like that (and if that were the case, they weren't very smart to begin with). I think it's more that they already disliked feminism and homosexuality so they were naturally on the look out for examples to confirm what they already believed.
