What's your best FFXI nostalgia moment?

I know a lot of people really hated the CoP missions (especially pre-nerf) but I really enjoyed them because they felt like a true accomplishment when you won.

Also, I loved that fun chart especially the dramatic peak when you enter sea for the first time. So accurate.

Hard to decide. I'd say bcnm 40s should be on the list though, as I spent so much time doing those with friends.


One memorable moment though was once a friend and I were helping another friend try to get the ferry nm. That friend had to afk so we went to the dunes for shits n' giggles to see if VE was up (since he's like next to impossible to get). We found him unclaimed, got him and hairpin dropped ahaha.

For sure, I'd say individual memories like those are more important to me than a specific event.

Maat fight, easily. I spent well over a month going back and forth between farming RDM testimony off Ruby Quadav in Qu'lun Dome and failing at the fight. I know I took at least one break over a week in there out of frustration with the thing. When I finally had my gear/skills good enough and luck was in my favor with him not resisting my sleep or gravity and I actually won, I think it was easily the most memorable moment for me. Winning various events in the CoP storyline did come close, though.

Valkurm Dunes (and various other low level exp zones) - "Incoming gob train to Selbina!!" etc.

CoP missions - just because of how awesome it felt when we won, the airship fight in particular. And seeing Sea (outside area) for the first time was amazing, still one of my favourite zones look-wise.

The best "holy shit did I really get this rare item" moment goes to the Hydra Haubert from DynaTav when that was still a thing. The stars aligned perfectly for that to have happened, and it still floors me to this day.

I remember my first NM claim and kill when I got Bloodpool Vorax while out farming Beastman Blood. I was so pumped that I'd claimed an NM (even though it was shit lol). I also remember doing a regular Saturday morning static to get through CoP missions to get Sea access back when it was hard as hell. Researching and tweaking our static and trying to fit in who was what job for whatever fight. It really felt like we were accomplishing something as we made progress.

I can still remember my very first ever Valkurm party with a Tar00™ that used that really loud whistle call when pulling.

Getting Sky access for the very first time and instantly getting gang raped by Detectors inside. Haha! I also remember the first time I got beat up by Chiggoes when WotG first came out. I was like... "wtf?! where did they come fr.... ". Dead.

Completing my first quest in Bastok, I kept the reward, a spatha, and haven't tossed it in the 9 years since.

The first time you got people together to do an avatar fight!

Having LS event AF3 fights scheduled.

Eco-Warrior!

Crawler's Nest escort...the things we used to put up with for 1k xp scrolls.

Trekking through Castle Zvahl to fight Shadow Lord...probably the only zone in game that has a "final fantasy dungeon" feel to me.

Doing the alliance Ark Angels fight (I picked Abyssal like a noob) and Apocalypse Nigh!

Going 1/1 on RDM Maat, suck it, bitches.

I lost power for 5 days due to a hurricane and I was more upset that I was going to miss a LS Promyvion run than anything else.

DRK/THF with SA Spinning Slash was king!

Goblins always ruining your shit no matter where you were.

CoP Mammets fight...God....and of course Ultima and Omega...

The night the Diabolos avatar battle was released, having 300+ people crammed into his tiny teleporter room.

The night ToAU was released, Mea chocobos were going for 50k+.

Having LS Christmas parties in costume by the decorations in town and taking pictures...exchanging "Secret Santa" gifts with people.

Had a couple of friends getting married in-game and they chose the top of Parradamo Tor in Attowha as the wedding site...getting everyone there was an adventure!

The first time you take down a CoP wyrm. The feels man, the feels.

Right after ToAU came out, getting chain #250 on Imps at Azouph Isle Staging Point and staying 2 more hours despite being capped because I wanted to see how high we could get.

Randomly running into Odin out in the wilds around Aht Urghan.

Assaults were awesome! You had to think outside the box on a few. It was fun and different! Except for that goddamned "help the psychic find the ring" one. Fuck that one.

Collecting Blue Mage spells...especially the more ridiculous ones, having a BLU alliance out wrecking shit!

People xping in Lufaise Meadows and sky before ToAU release. And also "moon: O" was a thing. God. That place was horrible.

Getting AV down to 7% using the WALL OF JUSTICE before GMs showed up and started jailing everyone

DRG finally being wanted for merits with Colibri!

Discovering SMN burn and chigoe burn parties.

Arrowburn parties in the Booyah Tree! (I always called it that.)

Fighting Kirin the old school way with PLDs kiting and RNG and BLM killing him with mosquito bites.

Fighting the ToAU kings...although I never did get that Medusa kill

Mining in Mt. Z back when Khroma was very valuable, dodging Trolls, bombs, and sometimes Cerberus.

More recent awesome things: the Fiat Lux fight, finally finishing WoTG story, getting into Abyssea and realizing the game as you know it has been fundamentally changed, soloing old content like a BAWS, etc.

I imported with the weeaboos, so most of mine pre-date the majority of the options. Some pretty hilarious moments back when Serket's AoE hit the entire zone, but if I'm gonna go deep into nostalgia it's gotta be the low levels. Running to Jeuno for the first time, the M6 Dragon/Oztroja alliance hike, farming for the Wight item in the mines with Earthshaker (back when TP was returned by damage, so many mobs = more than 100% tp returned).

Reminiscing never gets old.

Mine was definitely defeating BLU G5 fight, Raubahn is just an asshole. The irony is I had RDM at around 67ish before I stopped and leveled BLU since BLU fit more with what I wanted from RDM, but also because I was afraid of RDM Maat after constantly hearing about it. But fuck Raubahn, the euphoria I felt after winning that fight finally was crazy
