what's crazy is, most of the ones I posted are probably around 10, maybe 15 tons, except that bottom one which is probably closer to 20 or 25...

The big ones get to around 40 tons.

Yea, it's a morbid thing to think about but why pay for canisters of gas and have to cram the poor things in to try and save money when passive CO2 asphyxiation doesn't actually cost anything and is, relatively, pretty humane.

err... excess CO2 is what makes mammals' lungs burn and triggers gasping for breath. Lack of oxygen causes no pain, though. Pure nitrogen air supply with a CO2 scrubber = pass out and die without realizing anything's wrong. Helium also works, but is expensive and humans should probably quit wasting it on shit other than magnet cooling.

Unless there's an outside source pumping in pure CO2 you're going to pass out from the lack of oxygen before the concentration is high enough to actually burn your lungs, the increased breathing rate as the oxygen content decreases just makes the process even faster.

It's not perfect but it doesn't cost anything and doesn't encourage packing them in like sardines which pretty much guarantees that they're going to be extremely uncomfortable and in a feverish panic as it happens.
