All the construction is nuts. In Beijing when I was there 2 years ago there were more skyscrapers being constructed than I think in any major city in the US.
Overcompensating for something i wager.
I can vouch for that...
Nah, they think if they build like America did in the 50s-60s (re: bigger) they'd be something something capitalism.

do they maintain all that shit too, or do they just build it and then let it decay?
I remember reading something about their Olympic stadium not being used, too. The bird-nest one.
Edit: They're portals, you poor, pitiful soul.
They are also planning to build the new tallest building in the world trumping the one currently in India. It's gonna be called Skycity and they plan to cram a whole city into one building and they're suppose to be self sustained that will have no need to go out of the building.
But there is a catch, it's gonna be like 3+ times cheaper to build than the one in India, hahaha. inb4 headline news tallest building in the world collapse killing hundred of thousands of people.
To correct that, it's going to beat the worlds tallest building, which is currently in Dubai, UAE. Not India. And the one in china will be Pre-fab and erected in, supposedly, 90 days.
For comparison sake, it took over 5 years to build the Khalifa.
yeah my bad, it's UAE. Awesome concept but I can't help but to think it's gonna fail horribly, or at least be a really tall slum.
