Compared to the bar that was set with Alien and Aliens, no it wasn't. I haven't seen the directors cut, maybe that redeems it, but I was excited to see 3 in theaters when it came out as Aliens was my favorite sci fi/horror movie growing up and I came out highly disappointed in it.
The standards set by the first two are damn near unattainable. Alien being one of the greatest horror movies of all time followed by the sequel being in the running as the GOAT action film.
Alien and Aliens are untouchable. This is my favorite movie franchise of all-time, so I will think this movie is the greatest thing ever, having loved even shit like AvP.
I actually enjoyed it while completely ignored the franchise till covenant unless you count the avps but went into those knowing they'd be enjoyably bad. I honestly don't know what else came out I just know I saw some cring worthy clips of another one with Ripley being part alien or some shit. 3 might not have been nearly as good but of the standards hadn't been set so high easily would have been seen as a decent movie with some flaws
The audience is told he's dead in the beginning of 3, but my understanding with the Blomkamp film is they're going to just pretend 3 and Resurrection never happened.
Which is for the best really
I'm glad Scott expanded the Alien universe, I found the whole space Jockey thing from the first really fascinating. HR Giger had a lot of interesting concepts/ideas that never came to fruition (Scott loved them but no money).
Nigga, no love for T1 and T2? Those two franchises are up there (maybe even Predator), can't choose one tbh.
I do actually enjoy alien 3, but then again I also enjoy most of Resurrection in a totally off the wall campy sort of way.
Maybe some day I will even come to terms with prometheus
Anyway, have a pretty fun alien related read.

Saw it, very entertained.
Trailers made the plot seem kinda stupid to me, but there's a lot more going on in the story. The crew is still honestly fucking stupid for a good number of the situation they put themselves in, but shit like that just has to be an accepted condition at this point I think.
Hopefully the next prequel is just an entire movie of Fassbenders
T2 yes. God that was amazing when it came out. T1 was all right... certainly better than things after T2 (well cept maybe the tv series if they hadn't fucking ended on a ridiculous huge cliffhanger because there was supposed to be another season until months later it got cancelled. Yes still salty. God Shirley Manson and Summer Glau could get it)
T2 may be my most watched movie ever. It's either that or Heat. Overall I may have Terminator franchise slightly ahead of Alien.
T2 is fantastic, and it's right up there near Alien. Alien and Aliens shits all over T1.
Also, loved this movie.
Aliens, T2 and Predator are pretty much forever equal to me on greatness. Predator is just slightly below them. SLIGHTLY.
