That was before he came up to the bigs and flamed out. Purely based off watching him mash bad pitchers at Frisco. He was overhyped last year but his value has been dropping rapidly all year.

He's a plus defender at 3B, but the most he'd ever be for the Rangers is trade bait because of Beltre and Baker.

Edwards was the only piece the Rangers wanted to hold on to for the future, but Neil Ramirez shoulder aches screwed that up. He's the real prize, but most scouts project him as a great late inning reliever.

Colby is 4-1 in 8 starts with a 2.33 ERA, most of them road starts I believe. That's 16th all time for postseason ERA and 1st among active pitchers. Colby may not throw hard or have a ton of pitches but he's consistent and always has his command, you knew what you were getting from him every start in the postseason.

Like I said, Rangers don't need a regular season pitcher. Their current guys are good enough to get them to the playoffs. That's why they got rid of CJ Wilson.

They want an ace, that's why they wanted Hamels or Lee. They only wanted to give up Olt if it was for an ace.

The last 30 days was easily the worst month this club has played since 2009. The offense isn't going to play this badly the rest of the season, and if they do, then they won't make the playoffs so it won't matter.

As for Grienke, a 2 month rental is not worth any trade that includes one of the Rangers top 3 or even top 4 prospects - the Rangers front office wants to contend for the next 5-10 years. I'll take 6 years+ of team control of Profar/Olt/Perez over a slight upgrade over Dempster for some Class A guys who'd never make the roster. Only pitcher they were willing to give up Olt for was Hamels.

Dempster is JAG vs the Angels lineup, but TEX just needed a guy to eat innings like Colby and that's something Dempster has done the last 4 years.

I wish they could of gotten Grienke but keeping Olt and Perez was much more important.

Looks like the offense is back. Both Geo and Olt had some huge hits tonight first time in the lineup.

They should be able to use Dempster as a #3 or 4 in the postseason rotation for road starts, similar to how they used Colby - who gave up a ton of home runs in Arlington.

Doesn't hurt to add depth after losing 2 starters.

Yeah all that is still true. Only reason I was excited for Olt coming up was because it meant less play time for Michael Young.

As for a rental not being worth one of the Rangers top prospects, the Rangers farm system today and when I posted that is completely different talent wise. Profar, Perez, and Tepesch are all in the Majors - and Olt has lost alot of value since then as well.

In Garza related news I was at the Rockies/Cubs game yesterday and after the Rockies interns were done slingshotting shirts into the seats they dropped one and Garza chucked it into the stands

    I caught it

It's a bad shirt and the wrong size.

I wonder what this may mean for melky and bartolo though. Probably all depends on how honest they were when they got suspended last year. If Colon said it came from them and gave them all the info, i doubt he'd get double tapped on this. Melky though who knows.

Wow they must have had serious dirt on him to get him to roll *with* 65 games suspended.

Basically once the union said they weren't going to fight for him (essentially), and were rolling over on the whole "oh, 2 punishments for one offense? no limits to number of potential games suspended for non-positive-test evidence?" stuff, there wasn't much room to work with.

Kinda glad that the MLBPA is acting in the interests of its membership as a whole in this case. Getting rid of steroids/doping is beneficial for the long-term health of the players.

If they wanted to do that, they should've agreed to more frequent testing and stricter punishments. Once they agree to the terms of the CBA, they should strictly fight for the members of the union within those bounds.

a friend of mine on bookface might be friends with archi. he was making fun of braun and then some needledick chimed in with this

Grow up. Everyone in the league is cheating, probably your favorite players too. At one point some people thought taking vitamins was cheating too.

The only thing more embarrassing than the "pure baseball fans (as of like a year ago)" gloating over Braun's demise as if they orchestrated it themselves, is the Brewers fans who are acting so devastated "not because he cheated, but because he LIED TO ME AND MY CHILDREN" (not hyperbole).

It's like, I thought we were all grown-ass people who realized he was lying the whole time.

    Man people are fucking stupid.
