From the winners who brought you DmC XIII: Revengeance:

This is a fucking joke, no clue what Capcom are thinking. Not that it'll ever leave CN anyway.

Tencent is the publisher, it's still developed by Capcom. The lead producer on the project is Ono.

Being made for an International Audience (aka English version in progress
Crytek’s groundbreaking CryEngine technology is being used to create Monster Hunter Online, a major new collaboration between Tencent Games and Capcom that will see the popular Monster Hunter series released internationally on Windows platforms for the first time.

As a PC-exclusive installment in the hit Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Online will give millions of new players the chance to experience the Japanese phenomenon. The MMORPG will contain Monster Hunter’s trademark blend of vast environments, awe-inspiring fantasy creatures and in-depth customization options.

“The Monster Hunter games are known for immersing players in breathtaking worlds where great gameplay and spectacular sights go hand in hand,” said Areil Cai, Director of Business Development. “CryEngine 3 is the perfect fit for the series, and will ensure Tencent Games and Capcom are well equipped to make Monster Hunter Online the groundbreaking MMORPG experience fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating.”

As well as being used in the creation of Monster Hunter Online, Tencent Games announced this week that Crytek’s CryEngine 3 would also be utilized for the development of Legend of Yulong Platinum Edition – a new version of a popular Chinese MMORPG that will offer players an enhanced, more realistic visual experience. With long-standing experience of the global engine business and an enthusiastic gaming community of millions to serve, Tencent’s continued reliance on CryEngine for high profile new projects is testament to the growing reputation of Crytek’s proprietary development software.

With over 20 million sales to date, Capcom’s Monster Hunter series enjoys huge popularity in Japan and boasts a growing army of followers around the globe. Monster Hunter Online will be developed for the international market by Tencent Games and Capcom, and marks an exciting new era for a series that has enjoyed critical praise to match its popularity with players.

Okay literally every article or discussion about this says otherwise. Capcom are most likely just serving as consultant/QA. Should be obvious Tencent are making it just from the fact they're using Cryengine and not Capcom's own MT Framework engine anyway. That international page on Crytek's site got taken down unfortunately, here's hoping it's true though and this turns out decent enough.

While Monster Hunter Online isn’t developed by Capcom and is an online free-to-play game unlike the main Monster Hunter titles, it still shares a lot in common with the rest of the series. For example, like every Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Online has a village that acts as your centre of operations when you aren’t out on a hunt. This game’s village is Mi De La Village.

It’s Summer all year round in Mi De La. The village is located among mountains with optimal weather and abundant natural resources. However, inconvenient transportation makes it isolated from the rest of the world. Despite this, the village is something of a holy grail for monster hunters, due to its history. Several of the most recognized hunters were stationed at Mi De La for a long time at the start of the hunting culture. It has now been turned into a training base for young hunters by the Hunters Guild, and is home to an actual training area.

Mi De La also has a lot of the other facilities you find in regular Monster Hunter games. There’s a restaurant which has existed in the village for eight generations, and portions served at the restaurant are generous. In addition to the restaurant, you have your smithy, run by an elderly Wyvernian lady. It is said that she has recovered hundreds of ancient weapon designs and and made countless hunting weapons. Weapons crafted by her are considered dream weapons by hunters.

Mi De La also has a watchtower that serves both as a defense tower and as a lab for researchers. Some erudite researchers even live here, and you can always find answers to questions regarding Flying Wyverns or questions relating to the history of various continents.

New to Monster Hunter Online is a monster called the Caeserber, of the Primatius type. Caeserbers are said to have extremely sharp claws and live close to water sources where plant growth is abundant. While they’re herbivores, they’re also eager to fight, and will guard their territory fiercely should anyone trespass upon it. Caeserbers attack with their bodies and claws and are also capable of rolling and flinging rocks and dirt at enemies. Caeserber can even make pre-emptive attacks based on knowledge of their territory.

“We understand the Chinese market so Capcom has left all the business decisions to us,” announces Tencent chairman Ma “Pony” Huateng, “This is how we have split responsibility for the game since Capcom will mainly handle the gameplay aspects. Monster Hunter fans do not need to worry that the game will play differently.”

“Our experience with Monster Hunter is very limited but we are aware of the four different generations of Monster Hunter games. Typically, we have mainly used microtransactions in our games but we understand the need to adjust for international markets as well,” continues Huateng, “Therefore, I am proud to announce six expansions for Monster Hunter Online, each with a set of monsters based on a different generation, for the low price of 188 RMB each (approximately 30 USD).”

Conflicting reports on everything here. Is Capcom developing it or not? Is it China only or "international"? Bleh. Media. I guess I'll wait until future, less ambiguous interviews/press releases.

The fact that a Chinese company that revolves around microtransaction games is involved just kills it for me.
