Let's Meet the New Cast Members
Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega
- Domhnall Gleeson, son of Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, his film credits include About Time, Never Let Me Go and a recurring role as Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter films.
- Daisy Ridley, a British actress, whose TV career has included bit parts in Casualty, Mr Selfridge and Silent Witness. According to her agent's website, she was cast in the second Inbetweeners movie last year.
- John Boyega, a 22-year-old British actor, who previously starred in the inner-London sci-fi Attack the Block. Along with Gleeson and Ridley, he is expected to be one of the "trio of new young leads" announced by director Abrams earlier this year.
Max von Sydow, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver
- Max von Sydow, an actor equally recognisable as Knight Antonius Block in Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal and Father Lankester Merrin in The Exorcist. The 85-year-old Swede was Oscar nominated for his 9/11 drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close in 2012 and has previous sci-fi experience as Ming the Merciless in 1980's Flash Gordon.
- Oscar Isaac, who played the lead role in the Coen Brothers' Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis last year. He is reportedly in line for "a major role" in the franchise.
- Adam Driver, best known as Adam, the frequently shirtless love interest in cult comedy drama Girls. He has been widely reported to be playing Star Wars' main antagonist.
Andy Serkis

- Andy Serkis, a master of motion capture, famously responsible for creating Gollum in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Outside of CGI, his acting CV includes a Bafta-nominated turn as Ian Brady in the television film Longford.
One more Female lead to be Casthttp://screenrant.com/star-wars-epis...e-female-lead/There was one story dominating the entertainment headlines today, and rightly so. Finally, after months and months of aimless speculation, the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII was revealed. An eclectic mix of newcomers and familiar faces, the official unveiling came through a Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm press release accompanied by a photo of the cast together for the first table read. The announcement has been met with excitement by most, but has also been criticized over the cast’s apparent lack of diversity. A fact most apparent when taking in to account that of the newcomers, only one - Daisy Ridley – is a woman.
Aside from the fact Star Wars already has a rather regrettable record when it comes to female roles, this full cast reveal also goes against what was previously stated in the original casting breakdowns. While those breakdowns weren’t necessarily official, it’s uncanny how accurate they appear to be when compared to the official announcement. So why was only one woman featured among the new cast members when there were initially two female roles being sought?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the other female role simply hasn’t been cast yet. Their sources claim there is still one “substantial” part left to fill, and it will be filled by a woman. Somewhat in contrast to THR‘s report, however, is Mashable‘s Josh Dickey who adds that the second female role was not filled before the official announcement because it is, in fact, a minor one, but with a potentially larger role in forthcoming films. Either way, it appears there’s still some speculating over the cast of Episode VII left to do after all.
For those who may have missed them, the original casting breakdowns called for a “late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit,” as well as a “second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.” It’s a strong guess that the first female role being described is the role Ridley landed, and here’s why: In the cast photo she’s seated between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, giving argument to her playing Han and Leia’s daughter. With the breakdown calling for a young woman who is “independent” and has a “good sense of humor,” it sounds like Abrams is after an actress with the qualities any child Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo would have.
If this is indeed the case, and Ridley is playing a young Solo, then what of the second female role, described as “tough, smart and fit“? Well, there’s been another persistent rumor which claims Obi-Wan’s daughter or granddaughter could be appearing in this new trilogy, apparently seeking an actress of mixed race, with both Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o and Maisie Richardson-Sellers rumored as top choices in the past. Whether she’ll actually be directly related to Obi-Wan is uncertain, but then again, the man did live on Tatooine for years before saving Luke from those Tusken Raiders. Perhaps this second female role will reveal a whole new chapter in the old Jedi master’s life fans never knew about.

i guess the redhead is leai and solos son
if he's anyone's son, it's Luke's. That guy screams "Mara Jade's Son"
I hope they at least retain some of the characters, like Mara Jade, Thrawn, and the Skywalker/Solo children. Even if they totally re-work the stories, as long as they maintain the general personality of the characters, I think it would be an excellent way to pay homage to the fine work done in the EU without being constrained by it.
there's a second inbetweeners movie?
coming later this year yeah
nice
as long as Andy Serkis is the lead I'll be happy
He plays jar jar's son
I'm wondering how well Disney/LF will bridge the gap between 3 and 4.
I have little faith in Rebels, so I hope there will be a lot of additional media that takes more of a serious note.
Why the fuck do people expect every movie to be made with a diverse cast? Shit is retarded, people just want something to bitch about.
for me personally at least it's more a case of "they weren't restricted to any particular source material beyond the original movies, and they could have created ANY number of interesting and diverse characters, but at present it looks like they went with a couple token characters and a bunch of boring white dudes" which is kind of lazy and disappointing
obviously this is somewhat subject to change given we don't actually know much about the characters/secondary cast, but atm it just seems kind of bland and 'safe'
I agree wholeheartedly. This is 2014, your fucking casting sucks. Casting folks from different cultures and backgrounds will bring more personality to the table, not just skin tone. Hard to believe we are still struggling with diversity in a major sci-fi picture.
edit: nvm misread
