And thus comes the rebranding and death of Oculus as they rename their convention and R&D lab. This is also probably why they are pushing for a minor Quest revision hardware release later this year, likely to market it as the Facebook Quest, or whatever name they end up using for it.
What sucks is there's no real competitor to the Quest in the realm of stand-alone + PC hook-up (wireless also unofficially), so an improved Quest would be the most appealing upgrade for me down the road for that price range of headsets.
VentureBeat: Facebook adds new requirement for Oculus Quest sideloading.
https://venturebeat.com/2020/09/12/f...t-sideloading/
Current Developers have until February 1st to link their Facebook account.
Likely as an attempt to deter piracy on the stand-alone end of things. That shouldn't affect Oculus Link stuff or folks already buying games on their Quest already since payment info is required for that regardless.
Also Oculus Quest 2's intro video got leaked, which would have been shown in two days at Oculus Facebook Connect. Nothing new really other than a hardware refresh with better performance, screen, and presumably better comfort since I don't know a single v1 Quest owner that did not complain about it being front heavy.
Still nothing on an official wireless link solution, or other things like FBT, but that may come later in the event as a side thing.
$299 for the base Oculus Quest 2 hardware, out next month. Facebook's out for blood, and your RL info.
At least it's an actual Ubisoft VR game? I hope? Ubisoft has been having a hard-on for producing content for those location-based VR experiences, with the PC offerings being an afterthought from them, aside from Bridge Crew.
That battery-pack strap might be necessary if the 2hr battery life holds true though, which ramps up the cost. But hey, they're doing the thing I said they should have done with Quest1 which was offering a "not shit" strap solution as an option.
So far no "PCVR" Oculus games announced, which may mean the death of those from Oculus after Lone Echo 2 & Medal of Honor are out.
Myst VR also coming to Quest.
The new Medal of Honor is no longer Oculus exclusive and is coming out on Steam as well.

This is likely the case of Facebook winding down on PCVR-exclusive investments (since it was just this and Lone Echo 2 left that they announced) given the further push into the Quest platform. I wouldn't be surprised if Lone Echo 1/2 get a Quest rebuild at some point (it wouldn't be a small porting task) to warrant the sequel being made still at this point.
Bump because big update to the quest 2.
Now supports up to 120hz refresh rate and they've released an official wireless streaming mode, no more needing virtual desktop.
Honestly hope it's better than virtual desktop in the "developers don't need to do anything" sense. There was a looooot of people complaining over various Steam game forums about said games not working 100% with Virtual Desktop, and developers having to take time to actually support the unofficial method just due to Quest owners being the majority now on the PCVR platform.
Part of the reason for this change was they had to modify the SKU to swap the facial insert to one that's now silicone based, since the prior one was causing skin irritations in enough people for them to start offering free replacement inserts for existing owners for months now.
You couldn't order a Quest 2 at all earlier this month, Oculus took them off the market until this re-issue was ready today. Doubled base storage is nice since 64gb was too limiting, although it wouldn't kill them to let you have a means of backing up games to a USB stick or PC so you can free up space without resorting to sideloading.
Facebook Connect is also on 28th of October this year, presumably where we'll see whatever "Quest 2 Pro" ends up being.
Facebook will be unlinked from the Quest 2 in a couple of weeks
Lmfao, $100 increase just because.
