    Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W

Summary: The story of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san centers around Nyaruko, a formless Cthulhu-deity of chaos (Nyarlathotep) who can take on the shape of a seemingly ordinary silver-haired girl. Mahiro Yasaka is a normal high school boy who is being chased by a fearsome black alien one night, until Nyaruko saves him. She explains that the creatures from H. P. Lovecraft's works are actually races of aliens, and that she has been sent to Earth to protect him from being kidnapped by an alien trafficker. Eventually, Nyaruko and two other Lovecraft-creatures, Cthugha and Hastur, end up being freeloaders at Mahiro's place.

An AKB48 reference in nearly every episode? I am okay with this. XD

I forgot to say so, but last episode (6 I think) they did the most amaing parody.

The whole story about her old boyfriend that Mahiro's mom tells through the episode is actually the lyrics to the Ah My Goddess OAV ending theme "Congratulations".

    So amazing.

When did Chthuga start turning out to actually be interested in guys?
There was maybe a hint in season one with the flag activation joke but it was just so random for her to actually act remotely hetero in episode 1.

Nyaruko's basically a parody anime in disguise and I love every minute of it.

I didn't think it was disguised at all. That's exactly what it is lol. It makes it obvious at every turn. I just thought that particular way of parodying something (using the lyrics of a song from the 90s, which I somehow still remembered) was brilliant lol.

Is there any anime these days that doesn't have the words "was an ordinary high school boy" in the plot summary?

It's too bad that high school is so romanticized by the Japanese, otherwise we wouldn't see nearly so many high school themed shows. Not that it's a bad setting, but it's so overused at this point that it's getting too repetitive. Then again, historically, purely fantasy-based anime have done poorly compared to ones set in Japanese high school. There are a handful of counter examples I suppose, but on the whole if you want your show to be a success, setting it at least partly in high school is a great way to not set yourself apart while at the same time setting yourself up for success >_> it's really weird.
