PopCap Games, a division of Electronic Arts, today announced that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will be shipping for Xbox One and Xbox 360 on February 18, 2014 in North America, February 20 in Europe and February 21 in the UK. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is an action-packed third-person multiplayer shooter that puts players in the shoes—or roots—of their favorite characters from the popular Plants vs. Zombies franchise.

Powered by the advanced Frostbite 3 engine, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare features stunning, three-dimensional worlds, blooming with vibrant colors and unique landscapes. The game has more than 10 maps and three distinct modes including two 12v12 competitive multiplayer modes called Garden & Graveyards and Team Vanquish, and a four-player co-operative mode called Garden Ops. In Garden & Graveyards, plants must defend their garden bases from zombies attempting to turn them into spooky graveyards. Players can also square off in Team Vanquish as they try to send the other team to the compost pile. For gamers that just want to have a fun time with their friends, they can work together in Garden Ops battling off waves of zombies on the attack.

On Xbox One, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare includes two extra modes including local cooperative split screen and Boss Mode. With split screen, players can team up with a friend on the couch to fight against an endless horde of zombies. In Boss Mode, gamers can utilize their Kinect or a SmartGlass device in any of the other gameplay modes to support their teams. Players have a top-down view of the battlefield and can help out their teammates with intel, health drops, revive stations and explosive artillery strikes.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is available for pre-order at major retailers nationwide and at origin.com for £34.99 for Xbox One and £24.99 for Xbox 360. A PC version will be available at a later date.

PS4 version rated in Korea

While Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare has always been billed as ‘coming first to Xbox,’ Electronic Arts has not yet confirmed a PlayStation 4 version.

But the Korean Game Rating Board might have done it for them. The group rated Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and xbox 360. The latter two versions, of course, are already confirmed.

Multiplayer gameplay

Exclusive look at a brand new gameplay mode for Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare - Gardens & Graveyards.

24 player Gardens & Graveyards is a remix of Rush and Conquest gameplay modes from Battlefield but with a PvZ spin. Zombies are on the attack and must take the plant bases using team work and summoned zombie hordes before getting to a final battle with a rush like objective that changes on each map. Plants will be able to setup tower defense style defensive plants at each base to help them hold off the zombie onslaught. Zombies win if they take all the objectives, plants win if the timer runs out before the zombies can take over the map.

The map we are showcasing is Driftwood Shores. Check out the fly through at the beginning of the video to get an indication of scale and variety that you will find in each of the Gardens & Graveyard maps.

In a recent interview, senior franchise marketing manager for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Gary Clay revealed some interesting bits of information regarding the upcoming third-person Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC shooter.

Clay revealed that despite running at 60 frames per second on the Xbox One, those who plan on playing Garden Warfare’s platform-exclusive split-screen co-op mode will see a drop in frames to 30.

Clay added that the 40-person development team may implement a split-screen co-op mode for the Xbox 360 platform as well, saying, “nothing is impossible. It would take our engineers a significant amount of time to make it work, but we’re always listening to the community.”

Furthermore, Clay went on to say to mention that PopCap has equipped Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare with a extensive customization options and a deep upgrade system.

Earning these sweet cosmetic accessories, weapon upgrades, and character models like the future-themed Cactus is as simple as opening a sticker pack in the game store which is earned by accumulating coins. Also, everything you do in Garden Warfare nets you coins, from healing your team mates to killing zombies.

Sticker packs range from 1,500 coins, which will usually contain reinforcements, to the more costly packs that can cost upward of 50,000 coins, containing nothing but character parts, five of which are needed to unlock a new character variant.

Those who don’t have the time to grind out for coins to unlock stuff in Garden Warfare can opt out and purchase coins via micro-transactions, but it should be noted that players can earn on average about 15,000 – 18,000 coins per hour. This number does not reflect the coins earned by jackpots or other bonuses, noted Clay.

He also made it clear that buying coin packs with real money would not turn the game into a “pay-to-win” title. Everything is unlockable through strictly gameplay. In fact, some items can only be unlocked by playing the game.

Lastly, similar to Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer DLC, all future DLC for Garden Warfare will be available for free.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will launch on February 25 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, with the PC platform receiving the title at a later date.

they added the option to buy coins via microtransaction, but A) the rate of earning them in game is pretty damn good to begin with, and B) all the maps and actual content is free, so I'm ok with it
