According to larry brooks McDonagh's deal worth $4.7M per for 6 years.

Absolute steal there. And glad to have him locked up for a while. When the cap raises that's going to look like bargin basement number for probably one of the best defensemen in the league.

Keep in mind that 4 of those years were RFA years, so that value is always lower. (estimated about 60% of MV). So the 2 UFA years that they 'bought out' they are paying him the equivilent of ~$6.4M.

Which is still bloody good. Just not the same as signing a UFA at said price.

I'm just thrilled that MCdonagh will be a ranger for years to come. I honestly believe he is so good that he can make anyone on with him look better than they are. Girardi is a good example.

Oh, 100% agree. McDonagh is outrageous. I'd sign him to that contract in a heartbeat. One of the league's best.
