    first time casino advice

Going to a casino for the first time with my gf on Monday afternoon and coming back Wednesday around noon. What do we need to know? I know the basics about only take what you can lose stay away from slots ext. But like what is proper procedure to get chips and stuff? We both plan on taking 100-150 each and putting maybe 20 on penny slots (just to kill time and stretch out 20 bucks and put the rest on betting table minimum on lowest table of black jack I can find. Also the place im going to has a new members thingy going where they will refund up to 500 dollars of losses on slots on your first day. Surley there is a catch right? They also had a special for refunding up to 1000 on tables the first day. What is keeping me from betting 1k on a hand and if I win I make a 1k if I lose they refund it?

Learn BlackJack. Easy to pick-up, fun to play, dealer and party will gladly help you out, and probably has the best odds in my opinion.

Never heard of the whole "refund your money" on the first day deal. I'd look into it at the counter when pumping out your new members card. I agree that there's probably some stupid catch to it.

Go to a no limit table with all your money shortstacked. Go all in on a high pocket pair
Easily the best return on your money without having to know what you're doing

Living within 45 minutes of both the two biggest casinos in the world, Mohegan and Foxwoods, with another being built in my backyard, MGM, I can assure you if you show up with hopes of winning money, don't go. You will feel much better when you take that 100$ and you automatically write it off of your budget. If you win, then it's a great feeling. That being said stay AWAY from the slots, that is how you lose your money faster than you could imagine. It's how you take 100$ and lose it in literally 15 minutes, even playing penny slots. I recommend going to a blackjack table, craps table or stay around a poker room. You can take 20$ and play those games for hours and hours, without losing money if you know what you are doing(Most of the time). Drinks are free, remember to tip your waitress 1$ so she comes back, and remember that you aren't there to win money, you are there to have a good time.

The catch is in how they reimburse you...with money only usable on slots (or table play for that promotion) and often a (long) delay on when you can claim the rebate (100% 6 months later, 5% a week for 20 weeks, etc)

Slots are a bad choice in general, but the reimbursement for table gaming can give you a huge edge.

As I recall, the correct betting strategy for free play when taking a loss is to bet it all on one hand (or red/black on roulette, etc).

For slots, play penny slots or whatever for fun. Take your loss rebate and play the highest denomination machine you can find (we'd do this in the high roller slot room on $50 slots). However, you need to make sure to read the fine print on what machines you can use your rebate on. At some casinos, the play was restricted to only certain machines. Note that this is also the best thing to do with any free play you get for signing up. Never spend free play on penny slots, always go for the jackpot!

For table games, this depends on how the payout works and betting requirements.
In theory, you could wipe 95% of any loss by betting the table in roulette. (why bet the table and not red/black? Depending on how the loss rebate works, if you get back the rebate bet along with your win, a bet of 500+500 will get you back $500 + 500 in rebate...where as a bet across the board at 35:1 of $950 @38*25 will be guaranteed win of $850+25. Of course this is where it pays to find out the specifics in how the particular casino's system works before you do it)

What we always do, because I'm a tight ass with money, is, say we take $200 to play with. When we manage to win $200, we automatically put that back so that we have what we came with. Anything we win over that is fair game to spend.

As an aside, my best time in Vegas happened when I was making $500 bets on craps and losing. Ended up down to $100, 3 hours before I had to go to the airport.
Told the next roller "I'm dead broke after this roll, it's up to you to get me a win so I have cab fair to the airport. No pressure or anything"

Next 3 rollers got on a hot streak and I ended up winning back everything I lost during that trip. Didn't make any money, but managed to break even. :D

If you are playing Black Jack and don't know what you are doing, DO NOT sit at the end of the table. You'll be the last one to hit/pass before the dealer, and if you fuck up the rest of the table will get pissed at you. I had to drag away my drunken friend from a table because he hit on 19 and the rest of the table wanted to kill him.

Stuff like this is what I need to know lol but how does that screw everyone else up? But basically hit below 17 stay on anything higher unless you have an ace right? Also does the dealer always have to hit on 16 and below? Like if I have a 15 and he has 16 does he still have to hit if I stay? (Not that I would just an example)

Last spot on the table is basically there to help everyone else out, trying to draw out the cards the dealer would want. This doesn't always apply, but it's considered common etiquette.

At tables with a lot of money being passed around, it's fairly common to see people throw some cash at the guy in the last seat if he was doing a good job.

You can literally print this out and have it with you at the table:

    http://www.gamblingstrategy.co.uk/ve...G-strategy.gif

They also have cards with this info you can buy at most casino gift shops. And like others have said, most dealers will help you out if you're stuck at a decision. And yeah try to sit in the middle of the table.

Craps/roulette/etc. have pretty bad odds, I pretty much only play blackjack and Texas Hold'em (unless I'm in Vegas for the sports books).

Edit: Last things about blackjack -- never take insurance, and try to see if the tables have blackjack pay 3-to-2 rather than 6-5. Makes a difference if you're planning on playing a lot.

In general, avoid anything that's not a well known casino game. There's things like Pai Gow Poker, Let it Ride, Keno, and shit like that are really designed to suck out your money. I stick mostly with blackjack, craps, and poker.

Pai Gow is almost strictly 50/50. That's the game I usually play; I don't win much, but I don't lose much either. The only edge the bank has is either a 2.5% or 5% (depending on the casino) payment you give on a win.

I agree with most advice given here. I also live about an hour from Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun. Only went twice. One of the best things I decided to do both times was to to leave either my credit cards/debit cards at home, or just leave them in the car. A lot of people will say "I will only use X amount" but after you're out of money (it will happen) many will want to keep going. Keeps your losses to a minimum. Unless you have great amounts of self control.

Bring a few bucks extra from something to eat.

What everyone said was spot on. I'm going to reno next week so I looked up some videos on YouTube for safe and bad bets. Found some good advice there.

Does this makes any logical sense though?
