Thanks!
I haven't seen any maps posted for Torso V yet, so here is what I was able to mark down from one run.
starting map
2nd map
there was a dead end at the black mark on the 2nd map and I think there was one at the pink mark, though I'm not 100% sure about that one.
Thanks for these - can you review this and see if it looks accurate? It's worth noting that your mark-up has only 5 dens on it, I'm assuming there are 7 dens total, so if someone can identify the last two den locations that would help. Also, if anyone can confirm that the walkable (green highlighted) areas look approximately correct, I can mark the dead ends. Like there was part on the north part of the bottom map that I wasn't sure if it was blocked off or not since you had nothing marked there. Looking back on it now, I'm guessing there's another den there (but I didn't want to make random guesses while putting the map together).

i know from experience that the trail north of the camp is active so you could highlight it green as it curves around (like a loop) follow the north tree line until it hits the map change (northeast corner). There is definitely two ways to get to camp on this map XD
That upper path is definitely accessible. There's a den in the cross section that's in the sort of open area in the non-highlighted area. There's also a den to the right of the higher of the two bottom right ascensions.
Anyone have any idea how Heartwings spawn, or is it typical Tanaka (I KNOW HES GONE, WHATEVER) luck bullshit where "once every 100 runs it will spawn if it wants to"
I have no clue on the percentages, you'd need big numbers to calculate an average, but it's definitely not as rare as 1 every 100 runs?
Also I think when an heartwing spawns, it does so from the beginning of the run so you can see it on widescan.
The ratio in my runs, from T1 to T3 body, has been I guess uhmm... 1 every 5? More or less. I might just have been particularly lucky but I seriously doubt it's 1/100 anyway.
If the above point is wrong (they can spawn mid run) then I guess a lot of people might be missing them because of that.
1 in 5?
Spoiler: show
I've seen it once in 21 runs. The 100 I posted before was arbitrary and exaggerated to tanaka's track record (once again, I know tanaka is gone, BUT HIS SPIRIT SHALL LIVE ON AND PLAGUE FFXI) of absurdity.
I've seen it once in about 40 runs.
I haven't done a lot of Yorcia Skirmish. About 40 or a bit more.
Usually each time I did a "session" of 5-6 runs there was always a heartwing during at least one of the runs.
It always happened. Only once we got none, but this is compensated by the fact that non another session we got 2.
~40ish runs mean nothing as a number though, guess we've been very lucky then.
I guess the numbers you guys are reporting are more coherent and realistic then.
So then its not random, something does trigger it...but what? Cause I've taken to goin war/rng, just to widescan the damn thing if it pops so I dont miss it, and its not spawning.
Speak of the devil, I had one pop at the 10 min warning, as far as what I did differently from other runs, I have no idea, because afaik I did everything identically: 1shot funguar with sch, GA war + rig mnk on flytrap, and either one of the 2 dd on beetle or tree, never really paid attention to who attacked what.
But, heres what happened: after I killed the heartwing, my sch went 3/3 in failing to 1shot funguars (entire run had no problems on ladybugs or funguars, except for one firesday weather proc on blizzard, but that could just be coincidence), and more importantly:
It seems once your final treasure pool is set, it wont be modified by a heartwing kill
Well I never checked except on the latest runs. Last 3 heartwings I saw were there from the start (on Widescan).
Them popping mid run could explain why some people report a lower poprate than they really have, they just do not notice them. Could make sense no?
We had a heartwing one run, but didn't notice it until after our treasure pool was set. After killing it we didn't get an extra drop. I wonder if heartwing actually "guarantees" an extra drop or if that is even random.
It seems it'll only give you extra loot if you kill it before it announces your loot pool for completing secondary objective, at that point its final.
It's probably random, like seeing this guy.
We had one of our LS on Ragnarok drag five of us out to do Weald as 1-1-1's to practice. From my end:
First run, I was THF/DNC cause the ding-dong triggered the run almost as soon as we were all in the zone and got sucked in. In mostly bayld armor, whiffing was disturbingly common for me and the other THF/DNC in the party. Chaos, newb disorganization, disaster and I punched out with the healer down and me at under 20hp. Wipe. Folks aren't badly geared...for Abyssea. Weald clearly needs more for a meleer.
Come back as a manaburn PT. Wanted to see if I could actually hit the things with a little help, so I stacked +RAcc (sushi, gear) and came COR/RNG to give the 2xBLM + SCH +MAtk and refresh, we had a BRD/WHM (2 song, again nothing supergeared), and a RNG. This went MUCH better. We could feed the mages enough MP that they could burn down the mobs as they came in- and mind you, this is with one of the BLM's in frickin' teal armor. RNG went out and shot up the dens while we BBQ'ed the waves of monsters as they came in, and we went 2/3 success on that (had a bad break with a bunch of panopts spawning on one run and disabling people at all the wrong times). Wasn't lucky on straight pool drops for armor as it was all mage or heavy armor, so no goodies for me- but I got two wings in my three chests and a +1 stone along with NQ ones (in the third win), so I snagged the gloves and feet and got a decent -3 PDT/+5 RAtk on the boots. Not complaining at all, since wings basically mean that as long as you're patient, you can get together a full Skirmish armor set.
Still couldn't hit shit with my gun,and QD basically was dinking them for double digit damage with an AH-bought gun and Oberon's bullets. I normally end up TH whore for my Abyssea runs, so my COR gear isn't as focused as it should be.
Monster patterns do seem to be random, though that may be in part due to shooting up the dens as you go along. Most of the PT was new to Skirmish so they didn't understand about Noetics or Heartwing hunting, but I'd do it again with them and expect to clean up pretty nicely each time. We were getting 2 pieces of armor per run without fail if we won it.
Well geared SCH with magic dmg+ staff can get a DEN to under 50% (mine are 31%) after a Helix. So just run around the area and helix everything twice and you are done with Dens.
Sure the event is easy enough but I like doing it with a small group of friends instead of going with randoms and having ppl afk, dropout and delay things.
