Could I actually cheap out and use like AF 50-55 then HQ crafting unmeld gear 55-60 then invest nto real gear?
If you have a moderate amount of gil to burn you can actually buy a lot of the GC turn in stuff from vendors. Sure, you won't get the HQ bonuses, but it's still 100-200k exp per day. While you're at the vendors, pick up a few extras of each item and sell them for a ridiculous margin on the MB to people that don't know vendors sell them or can't be bothered to go out and find them.
You can also get decent exp from regular level 45-50 synths. In fact many of the materials are pretty cheap for these now and if you can find a recipe that only requires 1 of each mat you can HQ a stack of 99 for well over 1.5mil exp in the early 50s. Coeurl Fur for LTW is exceptionally cheap to craft and if you'd rather spend money than time you can even quick synth a few stacks to get to level 53 or 54. Exp gains beyond that go down to something like 1mil per stack, so it gets a little more expensive (and tedious) at that point. Create a macro, put on a movie and watch those levels fly by!

Not that I'm aware of, there is no shortcut for the "synthesis" button you gotta click for quick synth or normal synth.
The GC turn ins seem great for leveling. Lv.58 BSM I turned in an HQ item that granted the the star bonus and got 1.6M exp.
Also, for BSM Temple Leves you might be able to buy come cheap HQ weapons for the leves on marketboard since most of the items it asks for are MSQ rewards. Managed to snag a bunch of HQ Adamantite Zweinhanders for 5k a pop for the Triple Leve @ 58.
How does appraisal work? I bumped my gear up by 50 on gathering/perception but I'm still getting 115 on the first node with Methodical.
Edit: Apparently there's a cap on how high it will go.
I dont know why they even say "Perception x1.0, 0.9, etc". It's certainly modified by perc but it is not a 1:1.

900+ difficulty, 7000+ quality, 70 durability.
Oh and I especially love the 35 durability sub-synths, taking away the manipulation extra step method.
edit: On the 900 difficulty part, has anyone been doing anything special on these? I been using Rapid synth when needed. I haven't explored the new skills at all.
These are fairly easy if you start off with HQ mats, and there shouldnt be a reason not to. Been doin them with old artisan´s gear. The 35 dura synths are annoying/hard when you at the same level, once you get one or two above them they become a joke as well. Muscle memory is your friend for 70 dura synths.
Ive been using the old 3 star rotation for the 900 synths and finish just fine. Get about 234 progress with the final 2 careful synth II's at the end under Ingenuity II.
Same, I've been using same 3 star rotations, even tweaked my old 1 and 2 star macros to better fit these
I've made a 35 Durability macro aswell, with a combination of manipulation and mastermend.
(Have not changed from Melded Artisans at 60 yet)
yeah I haven't really seen much change from the usual way of crafting other than a few modifications to my macro's... ALTHOUGH I still manually craft stuff same lvl/higher than what my lvl is. Ever sicne that lv53 skill fro crafts, its become easier to HQ, especially the 35/40 dura stuff. I found the specialist actions kind of underwhelming, however...! Its actually not too bad on the 80 dura crafts, especially that nymgowhatever wheel that restores durability, has been both at times a lifesaver for the really shitty luck crafts, and for the overkill hasty touch spam way past 11 stacks of inner.
Randomly, I hope 3.01 releases crafter AF/quested...? like "tools" from 2.X series to work with.

Also, has anyone messed with Brand + Name usage? I have a FC mate that swears they can get like 400+ progress off 21 cp at the beginning of a synth using this. I haven't tried yet, but can anyone confirm? If true, and with steady hand it wouldn't fail, it would be an interesting usage. Certainly better than rapid synth.
