oh gawd I wish I knew about that a long time ago.

THAT'S A THING?! Oh my God, easy mode healing targeting ftw. Every time I find a reason to rage, I feel better about myself when coming to this thread.
I was getting bored with dungeons up until Sunken Temple, hoping that they would mix it up at least a bit ... I had no idea Qarn would be that much fun. Here are your props SE.
Just did Garuda for the first time and holy shit did not expect that. Did it on BRD with my friend on WAR, two randoms were a scholar and a dragoon. We basically went in yolo not doing any research. We wiped so many times that my gear durability was down to 40%. But 90% of the time we learned something new and changed our approach/playstyle. After deciding to have me use the limit break during THE RECKONING it only took 2-5 more tries before we finally won.
I don't think bads can even get carried through that fight. It was amazingly hard in all the right ways.
NPC price goes up the # of materia attached (by 1 with t1s admittedly); not amazing but still unexpected
One of the smoothest DF Amdapor runs I've ever had (even comparing to non-DF). It's amazing how easymode this can be on a good day.
Sometimes the text just gets me. It's like the writers know exactly what we are thinking -
Story quest in Coethas (post Garuda) at the top of the watchtower, the last thing the npc says "Watch your steps down those stairs, I slipped and nearly broke my neck." Because you know everyone in this game is using the gravity elevator.
I'm frequently surprised (and delighted) by the amount of mature dialog they slipped in here and there.
The kinky/bi miqo'te bathing in Forgotten Springs, the guy claiming he got the clap from a pair of slutty miqo'tes, the miqo'tes mentioned talking about dongs on highbridge... I sense a common thread here.
There's also a pirate miqo'te in the pub in Limsa shoving oysters down some poor guys throat. Got a pretty good laugh when I saw that conversation pop up.
I admittedly watched a video pre-fight so I wasn't walking in blind, which was great because my first group was with an all French party (I'm a DD, I have to queue for every language!). Needless to say you only need to read my complaint post about the outcome. The winning match was great (new party) and it took us a few runs to really nail down. We got the first phase really easy but the second phase was difficult. We eventually learned to tank at the edge of the whirlwind closest to the rock, etc etc. Truly love the mechanics in these fights. I mean, Tiamats and Nidhoggs and Sea Gods are hard on their own level, these dungeons/fights are hard on a whole other level.
Yeah MMO stories are truly steaming piles of crap. ARR not being one truly makes it great by default. SE has actually tried, even if it could be fleshed out further.
Other MMO's stories are an insult to the player in comparison. Actually, their lore and world tend to be atrocious to the point where they'd rather name their MMO by a gameplay feature than anything to do with the setting (Rift? fucking awful).
Other than the Titan filler I found everything else to be pretty insteresting anyway. There's quite a bit of interesting lore in the Ishgard filler and even the fetch quests before Garuda aren't that bad (FF5 reference with Siren in Limsa? Great.).
Could have been better? Probably. Is everything done now? Nope, which is where FF MMOs actually shine.
Gotta praise the difficulty increase in hardmode garuda, was a challenge to begin with, few hours of wipes, killed once then it was sub 10min kills the rest of the night, most of us not even wearing more than DL accessories.
I think the story was on par or better then the city stories in XI. Did they have a lot of filler bullshit in ARR? Yeah, but I mean you have to put a good chunk of filler in for a story that goes from 1-50 more or less.
They added a shout spam block in that last patch.
Thank gods~
I personally think the story isn't anywhere near as good as RotZ and CoP. But it's godly compared to the "story" I got from WoW. Overall I feel it's pretty decent so far. At the very least they know that the boring bullshit in between the good stuff is bullshit and tease you about it.
