    Titan (Hard Mode) Strategy

    Titan (Hard Mode)

    General Party Setup
    One tank*
Two or three healers (at least one each** WHM and SCH)
Four or five DPS (at least one MNK or DRG)

*There is no reason to have two tanks for Titan (Hard), but the Duty Finder will still force the normal full party setup with two tanks. It is highly recommended to form your own party for this with folks from your server so that you can bring just one tank as the standard DF setup will not give you the best chances of success.

**One WHM and one SCH is preferable as the shielding effect of Succor and regen effect of Medica II stack nicely for AoE heals during Tumult spam later in the battle.

    Requirements
Complete "In For Garuda Awakening" (Hard Mode Garuda). Activate “In a Titan Spot” in The Waking Sands. Continue the quest to attune to the aetheryte which activates "The Navel (Hard)" in Duty Finder.

    Titan’s Abilities

    Tumult
Arena-wide stomp attack, used repeatedly: 2-3 stomps in the first phase, one additional stomp each time it is used (no limit) in the second phase. Deals minor (500-700) damage to all players with each stomp.

    Rock Buster
Frontal conal high damage (instant, unavoidable)

    Mountain Buster
Frontal conal very high damage (instant, unavoidable)

    Rock Throw
Targets one player other than the tank, traps them inside a Granite Gaol ("Fetters" effect), and gives them a Determination Down effect (a target symbol will appear on the ground beneath a player when they are about to be trapped). The player inside the Gaol will be unable to move or take any actions and cannot be targeted by other player actions. They must be released by other players attacking and destroying the Gaol, and should have the Determination Down effect removed immediately after that as it will noticeably reduce their damage/healing output. Be aware of the timing at which you release a trapped player as they could be targeted by a Landslide or Weight of the Land attack before having a chance to move. Players trapped in a Granite Gaol will be immune to Titan's targeted AoEs (Landslide, Tumult, Bombs, Weight of the Land). Geocrush will immediately free any imprisoned player, but Earthen Fury will instantly kill any imprisoned player.

    Landslide
Frontal linear attack, used frequently. Deals high damage and long linear knockback to players in range. Titan turns to face a random target immediately before using this move, never targets the person tanking. Avoidable (AoE is marked by glowing earth with a blue outline prior to the ability being used).

    Weight of the Land
Targeted AoE damage, used frequently. Essentially identical to Eruption from Ifrit (each trap is centered on one player, three targets prior to heart and five targets after, and traps can be stacked if players are stacked, causing enough damage to one-shot anyone within the AoE). Avoidable if players are ready to move immediately (AoE is marked by large circles rippling earth). Often referred to as “plumes” due to it's visual similarity to Radiant Plume used by Ifrit. Does not target the person who is tanking unless there are not enough other living, non-jailed targets to meet the three or five target total.

    Geocrush
Titan jumps in the air and after several seconds lands on the arena, causing high damage to all players and breaking off a small amount of the arena. Being closer to the edge of the arena reduces the damage taken, but players who are too close to the edge of the arena (in the red section) will be knocked off with the piece of the arena that breaks off. Used three times, and only used in the first phase. Because the arena size decreases with each use, players will take more damage with each use.

    Bomb Boulders/Burst
Bomb Boulders appear periodically below 75% HP. When they fall to the ground the "Bury" ability will do very minor damage to players around them. Shortly after they land, they will use "Burst" to explode in the order they appear. This deals very high AoE damage to any player in range of the explosion.

Bomb Boulders spawn in three patterns:
Circle: Bombs spawn in a ring on the outside of the arena one at a time in a clockwise circle, ending with one additional bomb in the center. Wait near the center and run towards the first few bombs after they explode.
X: Bombs spawn with one in the center, four clustered around it, and several more spaced out along the outer ring of the arena, forming an X. Stand between bombs on the outer ring to avoid the explosions completely.
Lines: Bombs spawn in three lines of three, one line at a time, and blow up in the same order they spawn. Stand at the last line to appear, then run towards the first line that appeared as soon as it blows up (this happens at the same time Titan punches the ground during Landslide, so the Landslide animation can be used as a cue to move). The lines will appear in a staggered order (e.g. 312), so it will be possible to stand by the third line, then run towards the first once it explodes. The first line is always the center line.

    Earthen Fury
Special ability, used only once. Deals very high AoE damage to everyone. Impossible to survive if Titan’s Heart was not destroyed.

    Battle Strategy
Throughout the battle, Titan should be tanked close to the side of the arena, facing the side of the arena so that only the tank is ever in Rock Buster AoE. Players besides the tank should be somewhat spread out, but relatively close to Titan and far from the edge of the arena. This will make it possible to survive the knockback from Landslide without being blasted off the arena, if hit by the attack (although no one should ever be hit by this). It is extremely important that players are constantly ready to move throughout the fight as the pace of Titan’s targeted area abilities is extremely fast and frequently overlapping, especially towards the end of the battle.

    First Phase

Throughout the first phase, Titan increasingly gains access to his full set of moves, with Geocrush serving as a marker for the advancement from one part to the next. Be sure to run close to the edge but not into the red area for Geocrush to survive without being knocked off, and avoid all other AoEs.

    Part 1
At the start of the battle, Titan only uses Tumult (two stomps) and Landslide back and forth, with an occasional Rock Buster. Once his HP falls to approximately 85-90%, he will use Geocrush.

    Tumult
    Landslide

    Part 2
After the first utilization of Geocrush, he will add Weight of the Land to his arsenal and his cycle will be Weight > Tumult > Landslide repeating, with the occasional Rock Buster. Once he falls below about 75% HP, he will use Geocrush a second time.

    Weight of the Land
    Tumult
    Landslide

    Part 3
After the second utilization of Geocrush, Tumult will be three stomps instead of two, and he will also gain Rock Throw (Granite Gaol imprisonment) and Bomb Boulders. The first use of Bomb Boulders will be the "circle" pattern, and the second will be the "X" pattern (see above), and this will continue to go back and forth for as long as this part goes on. The pacing of his ability usage during this phase of the battle is rather tame compared to the second phase and should be considered a warm-up of sorts; if players are continuously unable to dodge AoEs during this phase, they will almost certainly die in the next phase. As Titan’s health falls to about 55-60%, he will use Geocrush one final time (make sure players' HP are topped off before this as it will do significantly more damage than the previous uses).

    Landslide
    Weight of the Land
    Bomb Boulders -> Landslide
    Weight of the Land
    Rock Throw
    Tumult

    Earthen Fury
When Titan returns to the battlefield, Titan’s Heart will replace him as the only targetable enemy. This is a high DPS check as Titan’s Heart must be defeated before Earthen Fury is utilized, or else it will wipe the party, so players need to go all out offensively. Once this phase begins, Titan will no longer use Geocrush and will temporarily stop using Bomb Boulders. During this phase, Titan will typically have enough time to use Rock Throw twice unless players defeat the heart very quickly. The first player imprisoned in a Gaol should usually be freed immediately, but it is typically wise to leave the second player trapped until the Heart is destroyed (depending on the role of that player), since the DPS otherwise need to temporarily refocus on the Gaol. The sequence of abilities in this phase is:

    Rock Throw
    Landslide
    Weight of the Land
    Tumult
    Rock Throw
    Landslide
    Weight of the Land
    Earthen Fury

Earthen Fury will follow the second use of Weight of the Land if the Heart has not been defeated by that time.

Having a DRG or MNK to utilize their limit break ability on the Heart is extremely useful to getting through this successfully for groups which only marginally meet the DPS requirement. However, if you can get through the heart without utilizing this LB, it should be saved for a 3-bar DRG or MNK LB for when Titan returns after the heart, to expedite the final phase. Immediately after Titan’s Heart is destroyed (or if it takes too long to destroy), Titan will disappear from the arena and use Earthen Fury. Assuming the heart was destroyed, quickly free the player still trapped in the Gaol (they will be instantly killed if not freed) and use any damage mitigation abilities available just prior to Earthen Fury, then apply some AoE cures to full health.

    Second Phase
Once Earthen Fury is used, the fight becomes much faster paced with constant areas of effect to avoid, but still very predictable. While at first it may seem very difficult and random, memorizing the pattern of Titan’s abilities actually makes this part of the fight much more straightforward. Mages should be using Sprint constantly in this phase to reduce the amount of time it takes to avoid AoEs and allow them more time to cast spells.

It is especially important to be aware when Weight of the Land ("Plumes") is the next ability as it requires a nearly instant reaction to avoid. To avoid Weight of the Land, keeping tabs on the locations of other party members will allow you to guess where exactly the AoEs and safe areas will be, since the damage AoEs are always centered on a party member. It is also important not to spread out in such a way that adjacent AoEs are formed, making it impossible to avoid Weight of the Land for some players because of the much smaller battlefield at this point in the fight. If players do not stack for this ability, spread out and watch the locations of other players so you know where safe areas will be located once the ability starts. If players are all aware when Weight of the Land is the next ability, it may be preferable to stack on top of one target player behind Titan prior to its use, then scatter once the AoE appears. If players are perfectly stacked, the damaging AoEs will overlap completely, allowing players to escape in all directions. If using this strategy, it is extremely important that players stack in precisely the same location, as the multiple overlapping plumes will instantly kill anyone who cannot escape the AoE in time. Additionally, lag is much more likely to get someone killed if stacking, since the stacked plumes will result in instant death.

For the remainder of the battle, Titan will be on an infinite loop of the following abilities:

    Tumult
    Weight of the Land
    Bomb Boulders -> Landslide
    Rock Buster -> Mountain Buster
    Weight of the Land
    Rock Throw
    Landslide
    Rock Buster -> Mountain Buster
    Weight of the Land

In the second phase, each utilization of Tumult will add one additional stomp to the previous, without any limit (starting with 4 stomps). Players must remember to stack up prior to Tumult for any defensive AoE abilities and AoE cures. AoE cures must happen continuously throughout the repeated Tumults to ensure that party members are kept alive. This phase of the fight is not explicitly a DPS check, but the longer the fight continues, the more likely that Tumult will cause a wipe (either directly by damage, or indirectly by sapping the healers’ MP). Having a BRD for Ballad to keep MP up can be extremely useful as this phase goes on, and it is important to use defensive abilities like Sacred Soil to mitigate Tumult damage once it has passed 5-6 stomps. Healers should also be pre-casting AoE cures just before Tumult begins to more easily keep up with the damage dealt.

If players are positioned properly, Rock Buster and Mountain Buster should only ever affect the tank. Mountain Buster can cause considerable damage and easily one-shot players other than the tank (3500~4500 to tank, 5500+ to non-tanks), so healers need to be prepared and top off the tank immediately after Rock Buster, and other players need to ensure they are never in front of Titan, especially when these abilities are the next to be used. Using Virus just before this combo can significantly reduce the damage it deals, and is highly recommended (Virus can also be used just before or during Tumult spam to somewhat mitigate damage there).

After avoiding the following Weight of the Land areas of effect, Bomb Boulders will be brought down to the field, followed immediately by a Landslide, before/as the bombs are exploding. The first use of Bomb Boulders will be the lines pattern (not used in previous phases), and later uses of Bomb Boulders will also rotate through the spiral and radial patterns. Be sure that you do not run into bombs that are about to explode while trying to avoid the Landslide AoE. Because of the smaller arena, players need to be extremely careful during the spiral pattern, as the bomb explosions overlap and players can easily be one-shotted by two bomb explosions (the tank must position themselves so that they are only hit by one bomb). Once the Bomb Boulders have exploded, Titan will again use Weight of the Land, then Rock Throw to imprison one party member (destroy the Gaol as soon as possible), followed immediately by Landslide. This is the "safest" part of the cycle, as the party will have several seconds at this point where Titan will simply be auto-attacking the tank and perform one Landslide, so this is a good time to recover and raise up, if needed. Titan will then use Weight of the Land once more, and the cycle will repeat.

Note that if players are properly avoiding areas of effect, aside from the tank, no one should be taking any damage from any ability other than Tumult. Because of the constant AoEs all over the battlefield, it is extremely difficult to raise someone successfully during this phase without them quickly dying again, so a death can often lead to a wipe. Additionally, with Mountain Buster, healers need to frequently be focused completely on the tank, so players may be moving around with uncapped HP from Tumult for some time before healers have a chance to top them off.

On Titan, wipes are nearly always caused by player mistakes (and/or latency issues), and very rarely caused by Titan himself unless the group's DPS is too low to get through the second phase before Tumult stomps overcome the healers' MP pool. Practicing/studying the fight to the point where all players instinctively know the full rotation for the second phase is extremely important to the success of this battle. To that end, being on a voice chat server with one player calling out the next move several seconds early can be very helpful.

    Loot

    Each player receives:
    20 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy
    15 Allagan Tomestones of Mythology

The final treasure chest will add one of the nine Titan weapons to the pool at random:
    The Wall of Crags
    The Axe of Crags
    Fists of Crags
    The Spear of Crags
    The Bow of Crags
    The Cane of Crags
    The Cudgel of Crags
    The Greater Key of Titan
    The Holy Key of Titan

I wanted to add an additional note here. After every Landslide in the second phase, Titan will rip up the ground and attack in a conal in front of him. I guess that's Rockbuster? Our group kept calling it Table for tableflipping. Something you can do to assist the tank is have a Virus rotation. Every time he does landslide, cast Virus during or after it occurs and you will mitigate a ton of damage off the tank and lessen the cure bomb required to heal the tank. (Since you have to have at least 2 healers, that's at least 2 people who can cast Virus)

Good notes here though. It basically describes how my group was farming Titan.
Learning the rotation after the 2nd phase is key to being able to farm Titan.

I believe the "Tableflip" is Mountain Buster. Rockbuster, iirc, is simply his normal cleave attack.

It should be noted before the first Geocrush, Titan will only use Landslide. After the first he adds Weight of the Land I think and after the second is Bomb Boulders and post third is when Gaols appear? idk, we usually had someone calling shit out while I was running around like a chicken w/o a head

fun fact: Gaol is pronounced Jail.

seconding Virus & E4E being used smartly. Virus can lessen a decent chunk of damage on Buster or Tumult spam

Always goes Landslide > RB > MB. Just need to SS tank while waiting for bomb phase and then bomb him after RB.

    RB is just a swipe.

Didn't even realize they were two separate things, I'll add to OP. Is one of them just single target or are they both conal?

    Both conal.

Source: I've walked infront of him and got wrecked by both at the same time as other people.

Both conal. Anyone besides a tank and maybe a super healthy-defensed DPS gets hit by that mountain buster/tableflip thing is down for the count.

I know it says Virus is just a -15 thing but damn if it doesn't seem to make tanks laugh off mountain buster.

Great notes, especially on the Virus. I added that in to the info above. Also added the move sequence when the Heart is out.

Virus is -15% which may account for the difference

I remember when people were saying lol 15%. That shit is serious. I feel like it knocks off his dmg to almost nothing.

We had our SMN save virus for tumult. MB is easy enough to bomb through imo.

That is probably better but the healers never seem ready for that because they are prepping to dodge weight of the land. Either way. Virus is so useful you're terrible and only hurting yourself as a healer if you don't use it.

(And if you're a SMN you should care about using Virus for your own life to live through some of this )

Additionally, just pop some food for the VIT. There's NPC food or sometimes HQ food really cheap on the AH. That little bit could be what saves you. I've lived due to 18 HP before on my SMN.

As BRD, Rain of Death should be kept up as often as possible prior to MB in the last phase. Straight 10% damage reduction for the tank for 20s; very helpful when eating Mountain Busters.

Was just talking on our ls forums about how I would love to see some numbers on sacred soil+virus+rain of death, vs none of those buffs, I bet it's insane.

Additionally, something people should do to assist for Gaol is if you are targeted, don't panic and run backwards, you should move towards Titan. People have AoE moves and as a Summoner I will love you since I will Bane the shit out of Titan to get some DOTs to slowly work down your Gaol while I DPS the heart/Titan. + I always have Shadow Flare going so you'll be DOTing from the start if you run with me.

Some of my best runs have had me and a SCH using Swiftcast + Shadowflare and jumping towards Titan before we get frozen to help.

    Please and thank you. <3

Good to hear that you can DOT the Gaols. I haven't done Titan yet, but I was curious about that. I'm still mad you can't DOT the Brayflox eft bubbles.

You can absolutely DOT the Gaols. Since it takes people a minute to run up and assist, Bane'ing the Gaol gets that thing ticking pretty fast if you're good at keeping your SMN DOTs. Me and the SCH were both doing a fine ass job at it so we always had someone out of the Gaol on the 2nd rock before Titan's heart shattered without doing more than just a Bane.

    Another pro-tip for SMN.

Shadow Flare the area where your tank keeps Titan when he goes to jump, then use Miasma II as you run away back to your position during the first phase. This is also a good idea if you have a newish tank. We trained a new tank how to position Titan by using the circle. The SCH might be too busy casting the bubble + curing to mess with that noise.

Additionally for those SMN who haven't figured it out, Shadow Flare's 30 second timer appears at the very top of your screen next to all your buffs and counts down. You wouldn't believe how many don't realize that. Start casting at or before 5 seconds and you should be able to keep it up. Move your Garuda Egi close to the boss whenever you can and she might catch some AOE cures from the healers. She'll get shoved back and back. Sometimes it seems like she glitches out if she gets knocked "off" the platform and won't cast.

If you're a mage, you should utilize sprint for dodging mechanics that you aren't good at. For me, that's weight of the land. I tend to always be out of position so I hit sprint before it begins.

If you have to Raise someone, locate where you stand during the bomb phase and use Swiftcast Raise there. If the person is keen enough they will raise quickly at that spot. I advise it being the place where usually no one gets up at or else they get landslided. It gets really hard to raise during Titan fight but it is possible.

Keep Rouse up and utilize your swiftcast + pet, swiftcast + shadowflare when needed. Typically swiftcast + raise isn't going to help you much. My swiftcast is perpetually on cooldown. Save your Raging for your DPS on the heart. After that use it whenever. Your pet also can be the target of Landslide so I will also have the Garuda Egi in a direction no one is at to save movement time. Shit is nice.

Isn't it 10%? Unless you're stacking it with something else in your post.
