    Citizens of Earth (PC/PS4/WiiU/Vita/3DS)

People are probably getting sick of Kickstarters but I thought this looks neat. Definately has an Earthbound kind of feel.

A modern RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World and all of the heroes are regular people!

It’s an RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World! Citizens of Earth combines the modern setting and humorous tone of Earthbound with the recruitment mechanics of games like Pokemon and Suikoden. Rather than recruiting fantasy heroes to your cause, however, Citizens of Earth is all about bringing regular characters into the spotlight as heroes. Instead of warriors and mages and other such fantasy tropes in your party, you’ll be fighting with a Baker, Used Car Salesman, School Teacher, Yoga Instructor, and so on. The characters that would normally be NPCs in other RPGs become the heroes in Citizens of Earth!

There's now a demo of the game available for PC
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...g/posts/607278

Due to overwhelming demand, we've decided to release the demo for Citizens of Earth early and let folks get their hands on it. So without further ado, here it is! It's only available on Windows at the moment unfortunately though.
Remember to check out the How To Play doc for a basic overview, and of course please understand that the game is still very much in development! So there will be some issues of course, and we're making improvements all the time. But I hope you enjoy it, and please leave a comment if you have any feedback.
In other news I just wanted to mention that so far, this project has received more backers per day every day since it launched! As far as I understand that's a pretty rare phenomenon. So that's definitely something to be excited about!
Well I think I'll stop talking here and just let everyone play the demo
    Thanks!
Honestly hope this gets funded, it's the only Kickstarter game I've actually wanted to play so far.

Being the Vice President of the World means asking not what you can do for your countrymen, but what your countrymen can do for you! And specifically in the case of Citizens of Earth, it means making them fight your battles for you -- and we're talking literal battles here, since Citizens of Earth is a role-playing game from indie developer Eden Industries and published by Atlus U.S.A. The game will be released later in 2014 as a download-only title for PC, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

The retro-inspired Citizens of Earth pits players as the second-highest-paid bureaucrat in the land. The game begins just after winning a long, drawn-out candidacy, and the VP returns to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected official he has two responsibilities: investigate what's caused people to go crazy... and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible. Citizens of Earth has 40 wacky citizens to recruit and send into battle. Wait, did we just say there are 40 playable characters? Why not make it... 41!

Atlus Holding Open Contest to Contribute a Playable Citizen to Citizens of Earth

That's right, we're letting Joe or Jill Schmoe get their taste of that game development brass ring by holding a contest to contribute their ideas for a citizen that Eden Industries will then add to the game! Full contest rules and online entry form can be found in the link below.

    Citizens of Earth features include

Gotta Recruit 'em All - Every vote counts, and sometimes you have to do some pretty shameful things to get them... Citizens of Earth has 40 citizens to collect to fight in your party, each with their own unique play-style and out-of-combat world abilities. Everyone in town will lend a hand, from the way-too-jittery Barista and the ever-optimistic Weatherlady to the notoriously skeezy car salesman and the ridiculously shy (and totally real) Sasquatch!

Occupy Earth! - It's time to take back Earth from the opposition. There are no random encounters in Citizens of Earth; you'll see every enemy on the field before you fight them. So go ahead and maneuver around those unwanted encounters or command your constituents to charge in for an ambush! As long as the VP's got a party to do his dirty work, it's all good!

It's Déjà Vu All Over Again... But Better - Citizens of Earth has some serious nostalgic cues, but don't worry, we didn't skimp on the graphics for the sake of being retro. This title goes far beyond the 16-bit standard, with real-time lighting, HD art, a day/night cycle, weather effects, and more.

Four or Eight Year Terms - The depth of content in Citizens of Earth means you can play a quick and casual adventure or a white-knuckle, pray-you-survive-until-the-next-turn grind-fest! The game is filled with hours of bonus content to explore, optional side-quests, and of course, citizens waiting to be recruited!

Citizens of Earth will be available in North America and Europe later in 2014 as a download-only title for the PS4, PS Vita, 3DS, Wii U and PC. Developed by Eden Industries and published by Atlus.

    I actually have!
So here's the skinny on the game.

    Controls:
I recommend using a controller for no matter how you're playing this game. You'll have a better time. The PC controls and keymapping is there but I don't like it.

    Combat:
Here's where a lot of people are struggling to get past. It's not going to be 100% Earthbound/Mother. The recruitment list is on Chrono Cross level of crazy amount. Leveling characters unlocks tiers of abilities. Some moves will gain you energy and some moves will consume energy. It's kinda like Earthbound and Paper Mario had a baby. Apparently some characters will have maybe some sort of Chrono Trigger sort of combo moves? It made it sound like that. I haven't gotten that far.
Changing characters is suuuper easy, you can adjust the difficulty in the game, and if a battle is going horribly wrong, there's a button you can press that will send you to your menu so you can swap your poke-I mean, people, around and try again.

    Story/Dialogue:
It's Earthbound. It's got that humor that Earthbound had. It's not HAHAHAHA funny. It's not even Haaa funny. It's that 'this is so dumb' where you smile about it through and through.

    Voice/Music/Etc:
Love letter to Earthbound. if Earthbound had VAing it would have been like this. Well done.
The music has the wackiness that Earthbound had.

Notice how much I've said Earthbound? If you don't like Earthbound, you should probably run from this game and head for the hills.
All and all, I can't see someone being disgruntled about a ~11$ game like this (for the first week anyways). It's correctly priced, has about 30 hours of gameplay (so I'm told).

You can avoid combat on "canon fodder" mobs altogether with PS4/Vita by waiting for the mob to turn it's back to you then pressing square. It orders your team to rush them, kills the mob instantly, but is only worth 1 exp per character.

Yeah, Earthbound mechanics lol. I was abusing that to get through this one tunnel.

Also you can abuse this to a great deal as soon as you leave your house. The rioters walking on the street will go in a circle (not all of them) and you can pretty much guarantee to nail their backs.
    Easy exp.

Ok so I've started streaming this game, which means I have them up on youtube if anyone wants to checkout the game. I actually encountered a bug early on in the game where I could not challenge enemies.

Just wait until you hit the game crashing bugs. Talking to certain npcs then attempting to leave the area is the most common. The Teacher notifications also bug the game out.

Yeah I got stuck at the Casino for awhile because Blackjack was causing crashes until I ran around outside the Casino for awhile.

So now I've got a few last characters to recruit, and I was wondering does Photon's Talent to slow down time work on minigames for recruits like Musician and Bartender?

    That looks interesting...

Ok so Photon worked on Musician, but seemingly not on Bartender.
