But if Shanahan and his player safety wants any credibility, it should not be "lol marchand had it coming", and it should be "Neal kneed a prone player in the head", the name on the back or the logo on the jersey should not dictate punishment. Neither should the injury report though -_-

I don't think they suspended Neil less because it was Marchand, but the injury thing is probably what caused the suspension to be much lower. Marchand was back on the ice, Orpik definitely wasn't.

The problem with Marchand is that he has a documented history of gross embellishment. Neal deserves a 4+ game suspension and he's probably going to get it. But the league will no longer give Marchand the benefit of the doubt based on his past actions. I mean come on, we've all seen the "I was trying to draw a 5" gif of Marchand.

I think we all know that the NHL disciplinary system is flawed, as is most sports. How badly a player is hit, if at all, should not be what judges how many games a player to get.

The whole point is to teach players a lesson, teach them what they can and can't do, and make sure they stop doing things like that for a better product and to ensure players are safe.

He's absolutely not a saint. Not even close. He takes extremely stupid, undisciplined penalties. As do multiple players on every team in the league.
