I did DL one of them once but didn't get into it in like 20 mins of play time. But seeing y'all rave about it makes me think I should give it another shot. I want to say it was origins

Origins was great. Don't start with a mage build, that's a pretty boring intro, IMHO. I enjoyed all three DA games enough to finish them all, but Origins was clearly the best of the bunch.

2 is def the weakest and the criticisms about reused assets and dumbed down aecadey gameplay are well deserved but some of its story beats are up there with anything Bioware has done

your mother's reveal/fate had me like whaaaaa, that was some ghastly grizzly noise.

Anders/Justice going full Oklahoma City and the Qunari Uprising were p metal too, and Merrill is Welsh waifu.

There's the part where you have to choose who stays behind to die, which is either Hawk and one of the Grey Wardens, which iirc can be Alistair depending on how DA1 played out.

Agreed. The story in DA2 was excellent, and several of the characters (Isabella, notably) were fantastic. I would recommend the game, just forewarning players about the issues you mentioned.

DA2 had my favourite gameplay of the three. Inquisition's is okay but DAO's combat was borderline unbearable. All three have things I like and dislike, but I think DA2 might be my favourite just for the writing. Although the Trespasser DLC for Inquisition is right there too.

Healing in Origins was super duper entertaining, was always kind of sad they basically entirely removed healing from the later games.
