Yeah, how dare they whitewash Daniel Rand. With that traditionally ethnic name, Rand.

The outrage by idiots about him being white is hilarious. Because casting someone white to play the always drawn as blue eyed blonde white kid who went on a trip to asia for a while is whitewashing!

See how Asian this dude is? Un-fucking-acceptable.
Wait people are seriously upset a white guy was cast to play a white guy who's entire persona is based around the fact he's a white guy in Asian culture?
The internet.
People are upset that a white guy goes to a hidden Asian city and becomes better at their Asian fighting style than all the Asians. It's a pretty prevalent theme in western martial arts films.
But realistically speaking, as a fan of Marvel, who do you think of when considering heroes with no powers except their fighting ability? Shang-Chi has gotta top that list, followed by the Black Panther. Batroc if you want to include villains. And then comes Iron Fist, after the Chinese guy, the African King, and the Frenchman. And Iron Fist does have powers, Shang and T'Challa don't.
T'Challa does have powers. His connection to the Panther God gave him the usual "above peak human" physical abilities and enhanced senses. He lost it for awhile when he got stripped of the title but then got even stronger + was able to control the undead + gained all the knowledge and skills of all previous Black Panthers when he became King of the Dead.
So at least in these last few years dude was actually kinda OP with all that on top of his intelligence and tech.
Marvel fan or not, Batman is the poster child for non-powered superhero.
Plus if they cast any minority for the lead role, doesn't have to be Asian, but especially Asian, the show will bomb, they all knew that.
Except that's magic which isn't cultural appropriation
Edit : especially annoying when people complain and haven't even read or seen a fucking book
He can be whatever race so long as he's American, but the argument is moot now.
Closet racism. Gotta love it.
People complained that asians were type casted into specific roles. Then they called it whitewashing when a white guy would play a role that should have been asian. Now people complaining that a white guy playing a white guy embracing asian culture and demanding that asian plays the role. Was there ever a complaint about David Carradine in Kung Fu? This isn't Mickey Rooney playing Mr. Yunoichi. People need to ease the fuck up with racial shit slinging.
I didn't know shit about Iron Fist's origin and just assumed he was Asian myself until this thread lol. Far cry than what people are making it out to be.
THIS is white washing.
Seriously. This argument is stupid.
Even for the internet it's some next level dumb when you can literally Google the character and see how fucking white he is.
Whitewashing isn't the argument. Man. I don't even agree with it, but I at least know what people are upset about.
Was that an easter egg in DD Season 2 or just a teaser?
