9" of snow accumulation in wind-protected areas over 2.5 days in Portland. Actual snowfall was closer to 20" but 20+ mph winds blew it all into 3'+ drifts. Then...the freezing rain on top of it all. It all started melting yesterday while it rained most of the day. Trees down everywhere and several power outages, but it wasn't too terrible. Most people didn't try to drive in it after the initial clueless drivers realized it was snowing. Those that did knew what they were doing. Portland and Beaverton issued driving bans on saturday evening and it actually worked. The city streets were completely empty for almost 24 hours. Portlandia really isn't just over-the-top caricatures. Portland is actually like that. The article gets it right.

East TN is getting DUMPED on right now.

Earlier today it just snowed a little and it was real wet snow. Around sundown it started snowing harder and now I just opened the door and looked outside and it is really freakn' coming down. Holy crap. I bet there is more than 6" already.

Got about 6 inches so far here in D.C. Homeless warming buses have been grounded so DC Police are converting truancy vans and prisoner wagons in to "Get your shit and get on the bus" vehicles transporting lost souls to a couple of spots around the city. Luckily, my unit decided to prepare and put snow chains on the cruisers so we're making it through but the snow plows are going over top of each other making huge snow drifts everywhere that you can't see because the snow is piling up so quick.

Had about 1.5-2 inches this morning when I got up, supposed to get another 4-6 today and another 1-3 overnight with some sleet in between. Looking to be an awesome day today at work and commute tomorrow morning.

Last time we had 4 inches plus a layer of sleet I was one of 3 people that didn't come in.

Everyone that was in said that getting in and back out of work was a mess and there were accidents everywhere. When I asked our Office Manager why she didn't send out an email to everyone in the office about whether or not the office will be open during bad weather she said it wasn't her job. Yes... yes it is your job.

3 inches of snow on the ground: Office closed, but I came in.
4 inches plus sleet/ice: Office Open, I did not go in
2 inches, 4-6 more expected plus ice: Come in to work so you can die on the drive home!

A dump of snow while sleeping last night. I'd say around 3-4inches.

Flood warnings due to massive slow melt and a sharp rise in snow levels. We went from 9+ inches on the valley floor on Saturday to completely melted + 2 inches of rain by Wednesday night and a snow level of 7000 ft. For reference, Mt. Hood is 11,000 ft. and all of the ski resorts are below 7000 ft. So it is raining hard and expected to rain another 1-2 inches by tomorrow morning. Local river levels are already at or near flood stage. It's 1996 all over again!
