Reading is a very hard thing to do mang
Ok so, this is airing on niconico and not television? Or is that where its gonna be like "exclusively streamed"
100% watching this, bring on the girly anime.
Hopefully it doesn't get delayed anymore than it a already has been. >.>
Aww yeah~
I actually wanted to rewatch the original like a year or two ago, but got bored near the second half of second season D; Always hated that one the most.
Yeah R drags with the huge filler arc at the end, but S and Super S are annoying because of Chibi-usa so you've either got filler or obnoxious small child (and sometimes both!)
My #1 hope for this series is that the art style adheres closely to the manga art, which is beautiful and classy and much better than the style the old anime used.
And nice dollmaker:
Spoiler: show
can't freakin wait!
Dear God... what have you guys done?
Thanks for reminding me.
N...no...not Saban...anything but that please!
26 episode series, VA's announcedhttp://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...or-26-episodesToei Animation confirmed with ANN on Thursday that the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal anime will have 26 episodes. It will stream worldwide every other week for one year with Kotono Mitsuishi reprising the starring title role. The anime will also star Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, and Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.
The new anime will run on the first and third Saturdays every month, beginning July 5 at 7:00 p.m. (6:00 a.m. ET).
Naoko Takeuchi came up with a pseudo elemental them, hence the original Senshi being particular to a specific element, with Usagi being Crystal and Mamoru being Earth. Venus was conceived before the rest of the SM story was fleshed out, hence her not falling into that pattern, and the outer senshi sorta made up as she went along, since nothing past the original Dark Kingdom story line was originally planned.
Mars in Japanese is 火星, literally "Fire Star". Mercury in Japanese is すいせい (Water Star).
Another way to find an excuse, the element mercury is liquid at room temperature. And Mars is red because of rust, and rust, like fire, is an oxidation reaction, just, much much slower.
Also, Mercury is Hermes, the messenger god, which nowadays goes hand in hand with computers and information. And Mars is Ares, god of war.

Everything has to do with ancient Chinese/Japanese views of elements and how they're ascribed to the planets. The major Chinese elements are Water, Fire, Wood, Metal, Earth.
月のうさぎ (Tsukino Usagi) [lit. Rabbit of the moon, after the fairytale that there is a rabbit in the moon pounding rice cakes]. Crystal, I suppose, is just a reflection of the color of the Moon. There is no element ascribed to the moon that I know of.
水野亜美 (Mizuno Ami) [lit. Net of the water]. Ami with this spelling is a popular girls' name, but with a different kanji can also mean "net" as in a fishing net. Mercury is similarly 水星 (suisei - planet of water).
火野レイ (Hino Rei) [lit. Spirit of fire]. Rei is also a popular girls' name, but this time "spirit" ties into her job as a priestess at her grandpa's temple. Mars is similarly 火星 (kasei - planet of fire).
木野まこと (Kino Makoto) [lit. Sincerity of wood]. Makoto has a very up-front personality and is always getting let down in love, following her name. Her attacks in the show use both lightning (Zeus/Jupiter's weapon) and plant matter such as her leaf attack "Jupiter Oak Evolution", following the 'wood' element. Jupiter is similarly 木星 (mokusei - planet of wood).
愛野美奈子 (Aino Minako) [lit. Minako of love]. Her name, Minako, holds the characters for beauty and child. Venus as a goddess was, of course, attributed to beauty as well as love, where "Aino (of love)" comes in. The word for Venus, however, is 金星 (kansei - planet of metal/gold).
地場衛 (Chiba Mamoru) [lit. Protector of Earth]. Pretty self-explanatory if you know his deal. Earth in this case is not the element but the locale/the actual ground we walk on.
The Outer Senshi do fall into a sort of pattern.
天王はるか (Tennou Haruka) [lit. Heavenly King Haruka] This "tennou" is used in Buddhism...probably to refer to Buddha. Uranus is similarly 天王星 (tennousei - planet of the heavenly king).
海王みちる (Kaiou Michiru) [lit. Sea King Michiru] "Kaiou" may be used in mythology but I don't see it listed as particularly pertaining to Buddhism. Neptune is similarly 海王星 (kaiousei - planet of the sea king).
土萠ほたる (Tomoe Hotaru) [lit. Earth/sprout/Firefly] Those are the meanings of the characters in her name and 'Hotaru'. Definitely less symbolic than the rest, but kind of had to be for reasons.
冥王せつな (Meiou Setsuna) [lit. Juncture of Hades] "Meiou" is the name for the ruler of the underworld. "Setsuna" can mean instant/juncture - but it also brings to mind the word "setsunai", which is a word for feelings of pain and loneliness. Pluto is similarly 冥王星 (meiousei - planet of the king of the underworld).
Edit: Forgot to mention. The artifacts that Uranus, Neptune and Pluto wield are parallels to the "3 sacred treasures" of Japan - the sword, the mirror and the jewel.
Growing up learning about this stuff alongside Sailor Moon is one of the things I love best about it. Takeuchi absolutely PACKED this series with mythology, symbolism, you name it. I always found it pretty fascinating.

Viz licensed the whole old series, the new series, will re-dub the entire original series with new VAs, and Sailor Moon Stars to be released in the US.
I love you all for making me sink 10 minutes into a dollmaker.
