Might see it next week while we are in Reno to get a break from the casino. All depends on the weather as it looks like a mixture of rain/snow while we are there.

Cant say I like this more than Harry Potter, the Eddy Redmane's character was really boring and the most of the beasts were uninteresting. I did caught a feel at the ending though.

Yeah I kinda hate they way they revealed Grindelwald, I really like Collin Farrel's character then they practically killed him off.

Saw this today and just felt too dark and gritty for what I wanted out of the movie. The only part I really enjoyed was when
    Spoiler: show
they went in the suitcase and you got to actually see some fantastic beasts. That section was like 15 minutes out of the whole thing. I did not care for the Akira-esque subplot with the boy.

The advertising was pretty open about it being dark and fairly gritty. I'm not sure what you expected.

So can some Harry Potter nerds (don't mean that as an insult) explain transportation to me?

I thought you need brooms to fly? And you can sometimes teleport if it's an enchanted teleportation object, to a specific point. And you can travel through certain fireplaces.

But in the movies, the dark mages can just fly around like a ball of smoke. And in this move, everyone just fucking teleports everywhere.

    What the shit.

This goes for all wizard powers. In the movies it seemed (when they started) that magic was a contained, limited set of skills. You use some words, and wand, and you could do some specific actions. In the last movie, all wizards are basically demigods. You wave your wand a bit, and you rebuild a fucking building from scratch.

    What the inconsistent mythos batman?

Wizards can apparate aka teleport once they are of a certain age and learn to do so.

The dark mages flying around like smoke is a movie thing.

So why would anyone ever use a broom, or anything, if you can just teleport everywhere >.>?

IIRC, apparition (teleporting) is more dangerous and disorienting in the books than it's portrayed in the movies. Certainly, I don't remember any constant apparition battles in the books. All the wizarding duels we see in the books are very grounded.

It can also be magically warded against. For instance, Hogwarts was at various points warded so that no one could apparate into or within the grounds.

Lots of reasons. Some people suck at magic, some people prefer to fly. You can't apparate everywhere.

The difference in power is we only see a bunch of goddamn children for 7 movies. We barely get to see large scale magic because it doesn't fit the context. You certainly see Dumbledore and Voldemort go after each other in the Ministry of Magic.

The teachers put up the magic barrier in the 7th movie as well. Fairly large scale magic and those are teachers, not Aurors or anything crazy.

It's like driving a car vs taking a train. Your odds of fucking up in a car (or getting fucked up) are much higher than chilling on a train. Broomstick riders have generally been trained since children how to fly and how not to be seen, and the sky is a big empty place for the most part.

Apparition on the other hand is dangerous, and you have to get a license for it over 16 just like driving a car. You can splinch yourself (not fully teleport parts of yourself) or get splinched by outside factors such as barriers or magical meddling. If you're not in a good state of mind it can be disorienting and there are also distance limitations iirc.

Remember Ron's splinching in the 7th movie when they were trying to get out of the Ministry? That kind of shit can happen if you don't teleport properly. Some people prefer to just not deal with it because they can't do it safely enough.
