More info on some additional spin off mangas.
This year's 35th issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion will announce on Thursday that a special one-shot of Wataru Watanabe's Yowamushi Pedal cycling manga will premiere in the September issue of Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion on August 6. Yowamushi Pedal: Spare Bike - Sore Ike Arakita-kun (Yowamushi Pedal Spare Bike: Go With That, Arakita-kun) will tell the story of a match between Hakone Academy and Sōhaku High School.
The Yowamushi Pedal: Spare Bike spin-off series follows the early years of the third-year students.
The story of the original manga centers around Sakamichi Onoda, an otaku at Sōhoku High School. He loves anime and games so much, that he would ride his commuter bicycle to and from Tokyo's Akihabara shopping district in a 90-kilometer (about 60-mile) round trip over steep slopes after school. Onoda's life changes when he encounters his school's cycling team, and he ends up joining the competitive sport of bicycle racing.
Wataru Watanabe launched the original manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2008, and the story has already inspired stage plays. The first season of the anime adaptation of the manga premiered last October, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Japan as it aired. A second season is scheduled to premiere in Japan this October.
This video owns. Opening re-enactment done by a phone company. Look at the guy playing Midousuji.
Midosouji confirmed terror lol.
I don't know why they did it with handlebars instead of real bikes though >.>
Also Season 2 confirmed for this winter \o/ hype.
Winter? I thought it was coming out in fall
The article I pulled that video from made the assumption that they used handle bars to pay tribute to the Yowapeda stage play which also uses handle bars.
I love the side by side comparison video. Really points out the accuracy of the live action/cosplay. I was also kinda taken aback by the handle bars instead of bikes thing but they did a great job with the handlebars, considering. I found out about it on anime news network, where they have info on it and both vids. Employees of Japanese Mobile Carrier Re-Enact The Yowamushi Pedal Opening
Anyone have info on a link to a vid of the play ?
Anyway I really love this anime and I am not even into bikes. I watched almost every episode but then decided to wait for the new eps so I can cramwatch because I am too impatient to watch them as they come out. Looking forward to new season!
Upgraded my Izumida; much more legit looking (As I'm sure it's very cheaply made, but it's legit biking gear rather than a costume). Considering doing Kinjou as well (Don't have rose glasses, will go w/ his reading glasses for now)
Looking sharp! Did you have the gloves lying around or did you pick them up for use with the costumes?
Picked them up also

Seeing this in your rear view mirror is scary lolIn a continued promotional blitz for Au by KDDI's new Anime Pass subscription service, the company will be attending Comiket 86 armed with Yowamushi Pedal goodies and photo opportunities.
Amongst them is a cell signal-boosting truck that features not only a special Yowamushi Pedal vehicle wrap, but also the intensely frightening face of Kyoto Fushimi's Midousuji Akira.
Next season should launch on October 6th. For two weeks, they'll also have a recap of the first season airing in various cinemas starting on September 19th.
Just ordered these; should come in time for my next convention. Looks like I'll do Kinjou Friday, Izumida Saturday, and the girls from last time are missing Kagami from Kuroko for Sunday @.@ lol they want a 5'5 black man to do that, so we'll see how that goes

The first episode of the new season was awesome! The story is moving at a great pace. And that ending scene with the watermelon, so disturbingly good lol
So amazing lol
That omake.
Yes! Finally! Somebody finally called him out. Dude is gross as hell.
Kinjou and Fukutomi are so gay for each other.
So much awesome packed into like 700m. Can't wait for next week.
