FATE in Nagoya (5/24) Translations: Patch 2.28/2.3 Details

Translation of the Game Watch summary/transcript of the event is below. I'll reference the other ones (Famitsu, etc.) after I finish up this one, but usually Game Watch is the most detailed. Yes, I know there are other translations out there already.

    Original (Game Watch): http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs...25_650108.html

This is a translation mostly of the Game Watch article, with some modifications and updates made based on the Famitsu version of the story.

    --------------

In Nagoya, Square Enix held "FINAL FANTASY XIV: Full Active Time Event in Nagoya," and broadcast the 14th producer letter LIVE from the venue, featuring part 1 of the information about patch 2.3 content which announced information and showed screenshots for the first time of content from the next large-scale patch 2.3, "Defenders of Eorzea."

While it would be possible to release the patch at the end of the month, due to conflicts with a power outage scheduled for the headquarters building on May 31 and June 1 in order to be able to effectively deal with any post-patch server issues, it was announced that patch 2.28 which was previously scheduled for late May has been delayed until June 4 or 5. The patch is currently in final debugging and they expect to be finished within three days. The formal announcement of the date will be made soon.

In addition to A Realm Reborn producer/director Naoki Yoshida, there was a familiar line-up of Toshio from the community team and lead designer Takeo Suzuki. In this report, I'll introduce the information that was gleaned from the live letter.

Patch 2.28 implementation delayed until June, for release on June 4 or 5

First, information regarding patch 2.28 and its delay until June was discussed. In 2.28, the Saga of the Zodiac Weapons will continue with the introduction of "Relic Weapons Novus," originally scheduled for release in late May. Other new useful features and elements will be added such as the exploration log and the ability to test out furniture.

The exploration log is a new play element which will task players with navigating the fields of Eorzea in search of breathtaking vistas. There will be about 80 locations to explore. The first 20 locations will have clear tips guiding you to find them, but the remaining 60 will have less specific hints to their locations. You'll have to get to a specified location and perform a certain action.

One new convenient feature is that when crafters repair armor, it will increase the durability by 100% from whatever the current durability is, up to a maximum of 199%. Additionally, it will be possible to try on equipment in the menus when looking to buy equipment from the market board or NPC shops. In the future, there are plans to also allow equipment preview for equipment that is to be dropped from treasure chests or from quest rewards.

In PvP, there will be an adjustment that all skills available for purchase with PvP action points will now be unlocked from the start and action points will be used to unlock additional traits or enhance the abilities. Further adjustments to PvP will be included in patch 2.3. There will also be adjustments for pet behavior and jumping exploits, the ability to display your character's title, and the ability to skip cutscenes in dungeons.

In Duty Finder, you'll be able to join the Leviathan and Moogle extreme primal battles. You'll also be able to participate in duty roulette with a pre-formed party of 2-4 people and the player commendation system will be adjusted so that even if you join content as a party, you'll still be able to commend players who did not join with you.

Additionally, the oft-requested "Fantasia" will be available as an optional service purchased from the Mogstation. At this time there will be three options to purchase one, three, or five units, and each character on an account will receive them. For the future, they are preparing a way to buy them only as necessary for individual characters. The cost will be about 1000 yen [[~$10]].

Additional questions from the live event follow:

Please tell us the strengthening conditions for the new part of the Saga of the Zodiac Weapons.
If you have a completed Animus weapon in your possession, you will be able to move on to the next stages.

Will you be able to tweak the weapon stats freely at any stage?
Starting with the "Relic Weapons Novus" coming in the next patch, you will be able adjust the stats to some degree. The key to doing this will be with an item called a "Sphere Scroll," and the catalyst required to perform this will be Alexandrite. In order to increase the availability of Alexandrite, we delayed this adjustment by one patch. The number of ways to obtain Alexandrite will increase even further with patch 2.3.

Will the design or glow of the weapon change with the Novus weapons?
If they were unchanged I think there would be an outcry. Since it's linked to the weapon's power, well... (laughs).

If the Trials of the Braves books were written by ancient heroes; why do they describe modern imperial weapons?
Although these are indeed ancient documents, in order to be able to grow your weapons, they have been translated into a modern version for the current Eorzea tasking you with defeating enemies similar to those defeated by the Zodiac Braves.

What will the item level be?
    It will be 110.

In regards to the current situation, will there be any adjustments to the drop rate of Atma, the probability of FATE occurrences, or the required number of mythology tomestones in the future?
There are no plans to relax these in either 2.28 or 2.3. I think there will of course be adjustments in the future, but not any time soon. Rather than adjusting the 1,500 mythology figure, we will increase the acquisition amounts which will make it relatively easier to exchange for the Trials of the Braves books. The amount of mythology you can obtain will be adjusted in 2.28.

Fight against Ramuh in patch 2.3, "Defenders of Eorzea"

The title and logo for "Defenders of Eorzea," the next large scale patch 2.3, was announced. Among the new things to be included are the Ramuh primal battle, the legendary treasure of Hullbreaker Isle (a new instanced dungeon), and hard mode dungeons scourging Tam-Tara Deepcroft and retaking Stone Vigil.

    Ramuh Primal Battle

What's the title of patch 2.3?
The title is "DEFENDERS of EORZEA FFXIV PATCH 2.3." There are many meaning to this, as well as to the broken styling of the logo. There are lots of defenders in Eorzea: the grand companies of each city, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, and even the relationship with the primal Ramuh. You'll find out more while enjoying the main story.

In the main story, Ramuh is said to be an arbiter of the forest who would strike down those who trespassed on the territory with a Judgment Bolt. Are the Sylphs trying to invoke him even with this background?
The content will follow the events of the main story, so you'll find out more when the patch is released.

Will the hard and extreme versions of the Ramuh battle be implemented at the same time?
Of course, Ramuh is a very angry old man, so I hope you enjoy both of the battles. The hard version will be part of the main scenario, and the extreme version will be after.

Will there be weapons implemented with Ramuh?
Yes, we have an item level of 100 in mind. However, the main reward from extreme Ramuh will be an accessory. For weapons, the drop rate will not be 100%, you'll only see them every now and then.

With the battle arena for Ramuh, will there be any gimmicks like with Titan or Leviathan where you can fall off?
We want to keep this a secret. When you say "fall," there are different ways to fall. It'll be a different kind of battle, that's for sure, so I hope you'll enjoy it.

Will it be possible to obtain a mount from the extreme Ramuh primal battle?
Of course there will be one available. There may be something good planned for the future if you can obtain all of the primals mounts, so please go for it.

Will you need to partake in the beast tribe daily quests for the Sylphs to challenge Ramuh?
It won't be mandatory, you'll be able to proceed with the main story of 2.3 whether or not you've finished the beast tribe daily quests. However, story of the daily quests of the Sylph will be an important part to understand the full story of the Sylphs, so it will be good to take part in it even if you finish the main 2.3 story first.

The Legendary Treasure of Hullbreaker Isle

Where will the dungeon Hullbreaker Isle be located?
It is one of the islands to the southeast of La Noscea. An NPC from the main story will be involved, so I hope you pay attention to the story as well.

What item level will be required to take part in the dungeons?
We're paying attention to the item level of all of the players right now, so we're holding off until the last minute to make that final adjustment - please wait a bit longer for more information. That said, it won't be extremely high.

Will there be another famous boss from the past of the FF series?
There will be a familiar Kraken monster that fans of the FF series love. The boss will be a bit different from boss fights before now, so please wait and see what we have in store for you.

What will be the item level of the rewards from the dungeons?
We're also waiting until the last minute to make these adjustments, to please wait on that.

Will there be a rare drop in the new instanced dungeons like the baby Opo-opo minion that drops in Brayflox hard mode?
I asked members of the minion alliance about this and they said that they hope players aren't expecting too much, but there may be something.

Tell us about the tragedy of Tamtara Deepcroft.
(In the broadcast, Yoshida moved on past this question without responding.)

Any details on retaking Stone Vigil?
In the main scenario, the goal was to retake Stone Vigil as it was taken over by dragons. This time, adventurers will enter at the request of Ishgard to once again retake the Stone Vigil.

    Item Desynthesis

    What is this system?
Simply put, you'll be able to obtain materials by breaking down items which you have. A thing called "desynthesis skill" will be added to every crafter, and you'll be able to increase this skill in order to break down items.

Will all items be able to be desynthesized?
It won't be everything, but quite a lot of weapons, armor, furniture and even fish can be desynthesized.

Will the items obtained through desynthesis be random with rare items if you're lucky?
Basically, when you desynthesize a finished product from crafting, you'll be able to obtain any of the materials used to create that item, based on the item level and your desynthesis skill. You won't get completely unrelated materials, and you won't get 100% of the materials back or the economy would collapse.

Will the types of items that can be desynthesized be specific for each crafting class?
The desynthesis skill will be set individually to each of the eight crafting classes. In order to desynthesize items, you'll need to be at least level 30 in that class, and the skill will continue to grow with points as you use it. Because there will be a common points limit with the eight classes, you'll be able to really master one of them or average out your total skill on all of them.

Will there be any restrictions on the desynthable items, for example, based on item level?
You won't be able to break down the highest item level items added in a patch, but they will be come desynthable as the patches move on. The desynthesis skill required will be tied to the item level, so players with lower desynthesis skill will see a 0% probability of success if they try to desynthesize items with an item level that is too high for their skill.

    Monster Hunts

What is the Monster Hunt content?
Monster hunting is a set of battles with "Risky Monsters" [[i.e. NMs]] around Eorzea. You'll get points depending on the threat level posed by those monsters. There are three ranks to monsters: S, A, and B. For those who want more daily content, there will be a rank B monster wanted by the Grand Company each week which will yield bonus points when defeated, and there will be further monsters specified daily to each player. Certain risky monsters will have spawn conditions which cause them to not be easily encountered, and these will be of a higher rank.

What kinds of rewards will come from this?
You'll be able to exchange the points for items currently purchaseable with mythology tomestones, as well as for items unique to Monster Hunts. We'll continue to add new exchangeable rewards with each new patch. Alexandrite necessary to obtain Zodiac weapons can also be exchanged for here, but remember that it will also be available in a lot of other content as well.

Will there be varying difficulty levels available?
There will be many; the difficulty varies considerably with the rank. There are some that you'll be able to defeat at IL90 alone or maybe together with your chocobo, but there will be others that are much harder that will require you to gather a party. There will be a lot of different ones, so please try out different configurations.

    Other Stuff

Most current content can be prepared for and defeated by memorizing the movements and techniques of a battle. Will there be content in the future implemented with more random elements?
First off, we don't intend to put in a lot of random elements. In certain battles which come down to the wire, in particular with the highest tier battles, there is already a random luck element involved with clearing. It becomes more difficult to balance a battle with random elements, and losing battles becomes a much more stressful ordeal when it's determined by a random luck element. There are already some random elements included with respect to who gets targeted by certain abilities. In one of the dungeons to be added in 2.3, one of the bosses is relatively strong due to a random element, so I'd like to hear some player feedback based on that, and maybe we can push the envelope a bit more based on that feedback. That said, because there are already people who have cleared the Second Coil of Bahamut, we're thinking about preparing something with ridiculous difficulty like a so-and-so extreme battle which just has a title for a reward.

Do you plan on strengthening black mages?
We'll perform some adjustments in patch 2.3. Since it's a pure DPS class, the general direction planned is to raise its overall single-target DPS. However, since it's strong at a distance, it would become unbalanced if we just raised the DPS without taking the whole job balance into account. It's not a simple solution, but the overall DPS will become higher. We also plan on making adjustments for other jobs to less frequently used or inconvenient actions. Also, in patch 2.3, Front Lines will be added for PvP, so we plan on reviewing PvP actions as we get closer to 2.3. We'll talk more about this once we've made final decisions on what the adjustments will be.

How long until we're able to reassign the skills of our Chocobo companion?
You'll be able to in 2.3. There will be other Chocobo-related content in 2.3 also, such as various colors and being able to surpass certain limitations.

Please make it easier to obtain the materials to strengthen items to item level 110.
We planned from the start that these items would first be available in specific turns of the Binding Coil, but it wouldn't stay this way forever and there would be other places to obtain them as well. Instead of increasing the drop rate in the current location, when the new Crystal Tower is implemented in patch 2.3, we plan for these items to be dropped there as well. Rather than adding all of the different places at once, we'll add other ways to obtain these items with each patch, including in smaller patches. The situation will become progressively easier as time goes on.

Please implement an official feature that allows us to display our DPS and the percentage HP of enemies.
Displaying the percentage is not a difficult thing, so I'll talk to Hiroshi about that. For certain tools such as position warping or speed hacks, we immediately ban on sight. As a company, our stance on unapproved third party tools is that they cannot be used as there is a chance that there is malicious intent to distribute viruses or other malware. I think there's definitely a game culture with enjoying mods, and they can be a lot of fun, but they're to be performed at your own risk. We do not plan to have official support for a DPS measurement display because this could lead to player griefing. As far as practicing for damage output, we're looking at adding something to the future "Beginners' Hall" so that players can see how much damage they do in 2 minutes and use this as a test. Even then, players need to participate in different content to really hone their skills.

Introduction of a two-seat chocobo and the wedding dress

In the core team members corner, lead designer Takeo Suzuki was fielding some questions. He previously worked as an animator and on development for Chrono Cross, The Bouncer, and other titles, and worked on motion tools for technical artists in major titles such as Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy XIII. As a lead designer in A Realm Reborn, he supervises art and animation, characters, and backgrounds.

[[All of the answers below are from Takeo Suzuki.]]

Which content are you in charge of?
There are a lot of different parts of the graphics team with art, character, animation, cutscenes, effects, and technical art. I'm focused on integrating all of these teams so that they don't diverge in different directions.

Tell us what's hard or what you like about being a lead designer.
I find working on the game as a whole to be interesting, and we have a backbone of talented animators. It was tough at the beginning to understand what other sections were working on that I wasn't as familiar with.

Have you ever screamed out "Yoshidaaa!" or wanted to cry at work?
Not so much at work, but during the producer letters LIVE because he would reveal information that we wanted to hold off on showing.

From your point of view, what do you find better or worse in A Realm Reborn compared to the original Final Fantasy XIV?
Since we've changed the engine, I think the overall quality has gone up. In particular, our representation of real time shadows has greatly improved. The general feeling of movement has also improved compared to before. There were some good elements to the original FFXIV as well, such as really crisp cutscenes with carefully orchestrated effects and lighting.

    How do you design equipment?
Well, first we come up with a concept in planning. Then the art team will draw our concept, and if we like it, it moves to modeling. BGs (backgrounds) also follow that same general pattern.

As a male character, I also want to be fashionable, so please add more equipment.
Well, in the recent patch we added a sailor suit and a dress. The dress was for women, and the sailor suit was really intended for male characters but was available to both male and female characters, so I guess it was a little biased. We'll continue to put out cool stuff for both male and female characters in the future.

Will you be adding other fashion equipment intended to be glamoured like the Spring Dress in the future?
We'll be adding nightwear for both male and female characters in patch 2.3.

I want to be able to dye the lenses of glasses.
I thought about that also, we're working on some testing to see if we can change both the colors for the frames and lenses at once.

I also want to be able to dye rare loot available from dungeons.
Because we think of dying as a characteristic of crafting, we really only want crafted equipment available to be dyed for now.

Have there been any difficulties with hairstyles?
We've had a bit of a struggle recently with certain styles because they need to be adjusted differently for each races so they can't just be ported. For example, they need to be adjusted around the ears for Miqo'te and changed up between Lalafells and Roegadyns.

Will there be any other new emotes like the step dance or the Manderville?
Since the looping dance emotes were popular, we do plan to add more of these. It won't be in 2.3, but will be shortly after in a seasonal event for the summer, so you can maybe try it out while wearing a Yukata. It may be something memorable to players of the original FFXIV, but we'll have it loop as well. A new pose will be added in patch 2.28.

Please implement skirt length in between mini and long.
The legs are hidden with the long length and there's no interference with short length, but I'd be bit hesitant with middle length skirts because of the potential polygon interference with the legs. That said, we'll challenge this idea and take a look at various styles for the future.

Are there any plans to add cute armor for chocobos?
Well, if you think about what you can get from Leviathan right now, we'll have something else available from Ramuh.

Eorzea Cafe to open in Akihabara this summer vacation
At the end of the notice, plans were announced to open up a new shop for A Realm Reborn and the Eorzea Cafe in Akihabara this summer vacation. It'll be an area where players can meet in an Eorzea-like atmosphere and dine on Eorzean cuisine.

On the first service anniversary this September, a large campaign all over the world will be kicked off to celebrate.

The next live letter XV will be broadcast from E3 in Los Angeles. The schedule is 5:00 to 6:30 on June 11 [[1:00 to 2:30PM PDT June 10]] for the English version and 2:00 to 3:30 on June 13 for the Japanese version.

Following that, there will be a "FINAL FANTASY XIV: Full Active Time Event in Sendai" in July. Overseas, there will be the Japan Expo in France in July, and Gamescom in Germany in August. Expect a lot more information the be delivered about A Realm Reborn in the second half of this year.

All done with translation. Not sure if any of this is new info because I haven't kept up with all of the different threads and posts about the live letter, but take a read and see. If anything conflicts with info previously translated, let me know, and I'll go back and check my translation.

Looks like my next snowboarding trip will need a couple of days layover in Tokyo. That sounds cool, certainly more enticing than the AKB48 Cafe.

Also, cheers for the clean translation Slycer.

Will there be weapons implemented with Ramuh?
Yes, we have an item level of 100 in mind. However, the main reward from extreme Ramuh will be an accessory. For weapons, the drop rate will not be 100%, you'll only see them every now and then.

Hmm, so i100 weapons AFTER i110 relic is released and accessories at the same time oils/sands are released in CT2. I hope the accessories are i110 otherwise Ramuh might be kind of cheesy from the get-go.

Well... these weapons are a lot easier to get compared to i110 relics for sure. The accessory being the main reward makes me think that it's likely 110 and we'll probably have other EX modes dropping other accessories as well. I wonder if they're going to increase the mirror drop rate after 2.3, I doubt these weapons will drop at that rate. Gonna be super fun when 2-4 new jobs are added to the loot chests.

(Thanks Slycer for the amazing translation).

I believe the exact opposite of you, Alkar. Yoshi says it in that interview: "...you'll only see them every now and then." That implies that it will only drop on occasion. So expect a drop rate similar to mirrors, if not slightly higher. I would like to assume Yoshi-P understands by the time of 2.3 a number of people will at least have Animus, if not 30~80% of the way to completion, negating the want for a i90 or i95 weapon.

I'd say if mirrors from Levi are like 1-5%, Ramuh weapons will be like 10%.

I highly doubt he's going to have 9 weapons (soon to be even more) dropping with a 1% drop rate, that's just insane. Unless each weapon has its own slot in the pool but even then you'll never see any of them.

If its 1 weapon max per pool I'd hope for a 20+% drop rate. There are still some Levi weapons I haven't seen drop after 50 or so kills and I've never seen a mirror.

    Yoshida re: BLM

However, since it's strong at a distance, it would become unbalanced if we just raised the DPS without taking the whole job balance into account.
Anyone else reading into this as some kind of distance penalty to BLM nuking? That would kinda suck, but that's what it sounds like he's leading on to.

Could be a proximity boost, since most fights that aren't BLM friendly you are standing on the bosses ass.

Anyone else reading into this as some kind of distance penalty to BLM nuking? That would kinda suck, but that's what it sounds like he's leading on to.
You'd know better than us from the context, but I think he's more referring to ranged DPS in general because of the fact that BLMs and BRDs don't have to chase down the mobs (generally).

Maybe an accuracy penalty on moving targets for ranged DPS would even things up. Also would make Ifrit-Egi a bit more useful. Not that I'm in favor of the notion, mind you.

That would decrease their DPS even more (you'd just gear for the occasion, capping accuracy instead of using those gear slots for other stats). The issue here is that BLM needs a DPS boost instead.

It's kind of hard to call what he's going to do since he is trying to keep balancing in mind. Throwing some higher numbers on nukes isn't somethin he wants to do, I'm thinking making scathe stronger and/or increasing it's double damage percentage or the age old complaint of stacking FS procs
