The performance aspect came from the first game with Denuvo, Lords of the Fallen, running like absolute dogshit. However that had nothing to do with Denuvo and was just a result of a poorly coded game. MGS V, Battlefront, and Mad Max all use Denuvo, and some of the most well optimized/performing games of 2015.
LotF ran like shit because it was programmed like shit, but Denuvo made it worse. The devs themselves admitted something like a 2-3% drop in performance from it. Conventional numbers say around 1-5%. Small, but definitely there. And any performance hit for DRM is something I'm not interested in buying on principle. Which is sad, I loved the first one. Maybe I'll pick it up on PS4 when that's finally out.

While the general existence of DRM is dumb, I don't really have any problem with them outside of things like SecuROM (which modern versions of Windows now block anyways), VMware, or Uplay.

Denuvo effectively consumes 1-2% of additional CPU usage for the games that run it, which means absolutely nothing since the games using it are all GPU bound. I'm not defending Denuvo or anything, I just get annoyed when people on the internet claim it's the reason a game runs poorly on their i9-25790 with quad SLI Titan Blacker then the Blackest of the Black Times Infinity GPUs.

I don't blame people for buying it, I just personally won't. Looks like a fantastic game, but I don't want it enough to be willing to do something I see as ultimately destructive to the medium. It's minor, but precedents are important in an industry so terrified to try new things without someone else proving it can be successful.

DX12 patch available for the Steam version. Early reports suggest performance is slightly lower, but minimum frame rates are higher then in DX11.

DX12 itself adds nothing, nor should it since it's almost entirely about changing the underlying API. The patch itself does add a new form of AO for Maxwell series cards though, VXAO.

The PS4 release will come some new DLC including a Croft Manor level, a zombie survival mode set in Croft Manor, and co-op (!) Endurance mode.

All the new DLC will also be available on the platforms already released, and is included for season pass owners.

Over the weekend I finally sat down to try out the Cold Darkness DLC and it's some good shit. I'm genuinely impressed with what they did for the DLC with this game. Both Endurance and Cold Darkness feel entirely different from the base game and add some good variety.

How many single player campaign DLCs are there? I haven't done any dlc yet. Not really interested in challenges and shit.

Think it was only Baba Yaga aside from costumes/skins for the main single player game, and I don't believe that's changing with the PS4 release.

PS4 version is out, which also means the 20th Anniversary DLC is now available for Xbone and PC versions.

Going to have to reinstall and try out the new stuff. Never played Cold Darkness either. I'm hopeful that extreme survivor difficulty will actually be difficult because regular survivor difficulty was kind of a joke.

Cold Darkness doesn't have much replay value but it's an entertaining romp, and unlike Endurance Mode you can actually fucking save.

Unfortunately Extreme Survivor is just artificial difficulty so I'm skipping a 3rd play through. Cold Darkness and Blood Ties were both enjoyable though.
