No sarcasm intended, but do you have a reason for not just attempting the VD mode with a melee setup on the official servers? It'd be virtually the same

I imagine its due to the fact that what you suggest would require someone to get on the original severs, level to 99 and gear up and all that jazz all the while actually paying for current FFXI, etc
Ain't nobody got time for that.
