I can't say I'm surprised. Having lots of forum/no follow links can do more harm than good for your site in terms of Google positions. But I doubt this is the reason why they're doing this as they are big enough to have enough good quality backlinks that it has no effect on them.

Yes. As I posted earlier in the thread, these takedowns would also in theory apply to GiantBomb, GameFAQs, and AskMen material as well but nobody has confirmed if it needs to be covered or not.
