If the teachers instructions during lecture were to add the last number the amount of the first number, then it's wrong as it's marked.

I mean, I hate teachers who do that but that's how math works. There is an expected way to do something and if you ignore it you get marked off.

My sister was in high school and often used me to brainstorm her maths problems so I often accidentally learned shit way ahead of my class. Jack used the number line to count "hops", and the very first hop of 10 (coming from the right, because subtraction moves left on number line) goes from 127 to 107, instead of 117 like it should. This results in one too few total "hops", and thus the answer is off by 10, the missing 10 hop.

Edit: scratch that, the numbers that were written in were done by the parent, the handwriting matches. It's because he didn't do a 10-hop at all. He was counting by 1's, and only counted 6 times, instead of 16 times. So either way he still missed a 10-hop.
