    The Strain (FX)

Didnt see a thread for this (it could have been buried if there was)

Started last night thought it was well done.

The Strain is a 2009 vampire horror novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is the first installment in The Strain Trilogy, and was followed by The Fall (2010) and The Night Eternal (2011).
del Toro directed the pilot, loved it.

It definitely had that Del Toro style, I liked it a lot too

Just watched the first episode there. Enjoyed it. Be interested to see how this develops.

I enjoyed the show a lot. Weird to see Samwise in something else.

I enjoyed it. Liked the twist on vampires, biological over magic.

For those who read them, how good are the books? I've been looking for some new material for my morning commute reading list.

this is how the books are...esp since they came out during the twilight obsessions time it took alot for me to even consider vampires.

I'm sprung. Got to watch it last night and was completely drawn in. I typically internet or play a game while watching shows, only really good ones hold my attention.

I don't know how much previews showed but all I knew was its Del Toro and apparently about a virus. I was sold just off Del Toro, really.

    Tons of potential.

    Spoiler: show
When whatever the fuck came busting out of the cargo hold, the show got immediately badass. I'm not sure the monster needed to kill that guy 3-4 times over but it did a good job to let everyone know they aren't afraid to show some brutality.

My suspension of disbelief was strained during the show. As interesting a premise as it is, the execution was lacking too much to really believe what I was seeing.

    Spoiler: show
Starting from the complete radio silence on the plan landing (how was the cockpit even breached?) to the unfolding of the CDC's investigation/handling of the whole incident, especially the medical examination, of the bodies, in a very not quarantine like manor, it was pretty laughable how poorly written those parts were. They even botched the CDC press interview; have they never seen one before?

The back story was much better laid out though, and if anything, I'd continue watching to see what that's all about.

  13. #13

Great episode, lots of cool characters, story development.

I hope they will have flashback episode with young Abraham vs Nazi Vampires?

  15. #15

I hope they explain how some vampires (Nazi dude) can look almost human while some drastically lose many human like traits.

All the books are available in trade paperback form at this time.
I paid for hardcovers only because I didn't want to wait for paperbacks. Show is great and is following the books very closely, potential for years of shows if they keep the current pace.

So far I love it. I could see how the average schmuck watching could get bored of it, since it's not the glittery vampires everyone has been getting used to.

I'm interested to know a lot more about the character.

Psh, Hardcover or bust when it comes to books.
