I don't think any character aside from the main 3 are safe on this show. Everyone is fodder.

Naw, I see the trio as Napoleon Dynamite crew. All three are a must. Another example is Supernatural. All key characters never die. Ash is Ash. He's safe. Pablo has Brujo ties. Kelly is just a badass enforcer.

Well, they weren't written off the show, is what I meant. Yeah they die left and right, then get resurrected, and actors stick around. Ackles, Padalecki and Collins is who I am referring to. Campbell, Santiago and DeLorenzo are pretty much a core cast. I'd expect them to stick around for awhile.

tl;dr They could've gotten the rights but it would mean another hand in the pot to share profits with so opted not to.
