"Evil Dead" will live again -- this time on TV.

Sam Raimi revealed at Comic Con that the cult horror franchise is being resurrected -- again -- for an upcoming TV series.

"I always love working on that series," he said. "My brother [Ivan Raimi] and I are writing the Evil Dead TV show right now. Weird, but true. With Bruce Campbell."

The news was revealed during a surprise Sony panel for the video game adaptation "The Last of Us," which Raimi will produce.

No more details about the potential series have been announced, and it's unclear if Campbell will appear in the series, or just serve behind the scenes.

Starz said Monday that it had picked up a new series, “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which is being spun off from Mr. Raimi’s increasingly tongue-in-cheek horror films, and in which Mr. Campbell will resume the role of Ash.

The channel said in a news release that this 10-episode series, planned for next year, would find Ash as a “stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.” But, the release added, “when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal.”

Mr. Raimi will direct the first episode of “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which he wrote with his brother, Ivan Raimi. The producers include Rob Tapert, who produced “The Evil Dead” movies as well as “Spartacus,” the popular Starz series that was no less teeming with viscera.

EW expands on Ash vs. Evil Dead’s set-up, calling it a “half-hour horror comedy where Ash takes a road trip to banish his demons alongside two young helpers and his trusty boomstick.”

The star tells the publication a follow-up film would ultimately have been too expensive, but “in the format of a TV show, we could give people exactly what they wanted and expand the character and the story even more.” Regarding his and Raimi’s return, Campbell says, “The [fan reaction to the 2013 Evil Dead remake] was all ‘Yeah, yeah, that was nice fellas, but we still want the real deal.’ This is it.”

Spartacus alumna Lucy Lawless is returning to Starz with a co-starring role opposite Bruce Campbell in the premium channel’s 10-episode half-hour original series Ash vs Evil Dead, sequel to the cult horror film franchise The Evil Dead. The series, executive produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Talpert, is set to film on location in Lawless’ native New Zealand this spring and premiere in late 2015. Lawless will play Ruby, a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: She believes that Ash (Campbell) is the cause of it all.

I only watched Evil Dead like a year ago, so I'm not one of the people that has nostalgic feelings for the movies. But this looks pretty damn good! What's that word -- fun?
