Pikachu will be piloting Jack 956, ZoE style.
Looks fun. Hopefully we'll get it on consoles by the end of 2015. Also, I take it arcades are still pretty popular in Japan?
EVO BOUND
As long as I get Alakazam and/or Gengar I will be happy.
do you even fighting games? plenty of examples of this not being an issue, MVC3 has a lot of little guys (arthur, rocket raccoon, viewtiful joe, for example). hell even soul calibur made yoda work kind of. they often suck but that's because devs are dumb not because it isn't workable. make them jump higher, be fast, there you go.
Not only will Pikachu be in, but he'll be sporting a Heihachi costume and EWGFing people for days.

Pokemon has been a challenge due to the various gameplay types so far, however nobody has had an experienced like this new Pokemon game. For what we had directed, Pokemon’s reactive moves have been perfected. By assembling both Bandai and Namco, who are ultimately creating this 3D action game, it is being fully realized.
Everyone who is a Pokemon fan will want to try it, while being an overwhelmingly fresh experience. Even if you have never played a fighting game or a fighting action game, your first impression will be “Amazing!” after just touching it. I am aiming for such a game.
Katsuhiro Harada
In “Tekken”, it is designed so that a player trains extensively, which led to our foundation in our current system with a focus on character’s animation and action. There is a sense of unity with the player when you move the character. It is refreshing when you rely on skill, but a pain when you crash hard.
There is a sense of feeling cultivating in the game, which that feeling eventually started being referred to as “Tekkenism”. We also are utilizing Pokemon moves in this work. The genre is a “Fighting Game”, and as some will surely point out, people who play “hardcore” or play with large stakes draws others in, making this genre so popular over a wide range of people, bringing a layer of originality with them.
Especially in “POKKEN TOURNAMENT”, rather than “fighting” with “battle actions”, you can return to the basics of a fighting action game. “Giving the player a wide range of options to choose from in the game” is being developed.
A thought that has probably crossed your mind is, “Should I get this because of Pokemon?”. It is a very fresh experience. It is very important that I know that anyone can play it. Please by all means, expect a new experience from Pokemon.

In fact, I was the proud guru of Pokemon in-house, which I never leave. When I heard the details behind this project, I thought I was the right person for the job, and so I felt great once it finally came down to me. “POKKEN TOURNAMENT”‘s dynamic action runs at a smooth 60fps, even with a particular emphasis on the graphics, I considered the ultimate question,“I wonder what it will feel like when we have Pokemon in the real world?”.
The muscle and hair of Pokemon, the landscape of the world we live in compared to Pokemon’s landscape, it has inflated and produced more imagination. All Pokemon fans will enjoy, where it is profound enough to do and continue on such a game. I was drawn to the state-of-the-art technology and the best staff, so please look forward to the new world of Pokemon like you have never seen before.

New Blocking Mechanics, Will Feature All Types of Pokemon
http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/27...ard-mechanics/Yesterday, after The Pokémon Company’s announcement of Pokkén Tournament, Bandai Namco’s Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada took to Twitter to answer a few questions about the game, and EventHubs took the time to translate his replies.
Regarding whether or not Tekken characters would make guest appearances in Pokkén Tournament, Harada confirmed once more that this will not be happening.
“As we’re making a Pokemon fighting action battle game, I’ve already touched on this while on the livestream, but in this game there will not be a high/mid/low guard system mechanic,” Harada added. “Instead, we’re planning to include a new type of [mechanic]…”
Harada also addressed the fact that the only Pokémon we’ve seen teased for Pokkén Tournament so far—Lucario, Blaziken and Machamp—are humanoid in nature, stating that adding non-humanoid Pokémon to the game shouldn’t be a problem at all.
“Technologically-speaking, we shouldn’t face any problems in implementing whatever Pokemon we want,” Harada said. “In terms of the system mechanics, we’ll be looking at what fans would want, so please rest assured.”

International Release is being Considered, don't expect a non-WiiU platform console release, other details
http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/28...ional-release/Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada had a couple more things to say about Pokkén Tournament in response to enquiring fans over Twitter.
When asked if the game would contain only Fighting-type Pokémon, Harada replied, “Guys, Don’t worry about that. It’s not only Fighting-type.”
Upon being asked if the game would be released internationally, Harada replied, “Considering now.” Presumably, he is referring to an international arcade release, since Pokkén Tournament has not been confirmed for a console release (yet).
When asked whether Pokkén Tournament would be a 1-on-1 fighter or a tag-team fighter, Harada said, “It’s secret. And we have some new ideas.”
Another fan asked if Pokkén Tournament would only consist of fully-evolved Pokémon, and whether Element Types would come into play during battles. To these questions, Harada replied “no” and “no comment” respectively.

That's what I would assume given the genre of the game; there's no fucking way they're going to design and flesh out over 700+ pokemon. And even if they tried to do fan favorites, I'm not too sure how well that'll go, given that a lot of pokes are of varying sizes and shapes.
Edit: or I guess I could just read the Tweet. Well, I guess we'll see what they plan to do.
