Got my refund and got the PS4 version.

Went back to the area behind where you fight the first boss and fished up a skeleton monster that kicked my ass. Good times!

Glad I didn't hesitate getting this game, so fucking addicting, loving it more than I thought I would. Even though I was having some issues with normal in the demo, I decided to start out with Nightmare in the full version and with a better grasp of the games mechanics + reconfiguring the button layout, it made things much easier and enjoyable now. I definitely plan to go back and play some of the older Ys games, this makes me want to get into the series for sure now and will probably try out Celceta next or whatever the vita Ys is.

I'm nearly 40 hours in. Game is pretty damn addicting with all the small details such as finding survivors/POI and the battles being fast without being frustrating. One thing I learned is make it a habit of talking to everyone at Castaway Village. Looks like I missed some potential sidequests/notes because of that.

Also Hummel is a fucking beast.

Yeah this game is fun. The control scheme is weird at first but you can customize buttons so that's good, takes some adjustment coming from 7/Celceta but the QoL added is great. I especially love the new flash dodge/guard and how skills feel in this game. Also I definitely should have started on Nightmare, but I usually save that for a 2nd playthrough but this game seems a bit easier with all the improved mechanics lol. Maybe that will change, but I'll probably play this again anyway after finishing it.

Celceta is going to be easier to go back to but 7 is gonna be rough since they improved so much since that game.

I'm glad I didn't hesitate on getting this at all, was a bit skeptical still due to the demo but decided to get it anyway and hope for the best. The game is just so highly addicted, really did not expect to enjoy this game as much as I am. I definitely plan to try out Celceta next sometime next month once the releases die down a bit.

I plan to finally give Hummel a try once I get done playing around some more with Ricotta. On a side note, some of the bigger mobs are more annoying to kill than some of the bosses And fuck the burn status too.

Yeah they become a pain in the ass. I tried Break+ food with not much success. Wondering if a more potent DOT such as Burn/Bleed would be better.

Found all the castaways and ran into the optional superboss last night. Tried to put up a fight but my group had no chance against a level 80. Thankfully the dungeon is a decent training ground and you can find a quest item for some of tge best armor in the game.

Got to say the big reveal in this game is surprisingly dark compared to the other Ys games.

Almost to the end of the game, and I have to say I've found myself enjoying the sections where you play as just Dana a bit more than the main sections. Nice throwback to earlier Ys games before they introduced the party system.

Beat it Tuesday night 100%ing almost everything (Map, treasure, castaways, approval) and yeah it is fun.

I'm tempted to look into the NG+ dungeon to get those accessories I need to give my characters slash/piercing/blunt damage types so I can solo with Adol.

I missed a couple side quests along the way, most notably the one with Dana that opens up the monastery in Adol's time, so I can't fill out the map. >_<

You mean the ones in Dana's time?

Yup. I don't see anymore green quest markers when I go back there, and the quest to open up that part was at some point in chapter 5.

I'm not sure if Dana has any lost forevers. It may be something in the future.

Was thinking of picking this up. All the Ys games are independent of each other like FF, correct?

Nothing more than the occasional reference. If you really look between the lines you can find links between the stories and a deeper lore but it's completely not necessary.

Just beat it earlier, and I can definitely say it's one of my games of the year!
