Director of the first two episodes Roel Reine didn't like the trailer;

I was mixed about the first trailer as well. I felt like it didn’t give you the scope, it didn’t give you a lot of secrets or visual effects. I felt it was a little bit too early because the visual effects were not ready – Medusa’s hair was not ready. So I was really nervous about it and would think the fans would not really like it. When I watched the first trailer I was like ‘ooosh’. But me as a filmmaker, as a director, you’re not involved with the marketing part of these things. The trailer was made by other people, so I was really nervous about it when I saw it. So I was like, “oh guys maybe we should hold off,” but it was too late because it was already in the open.

Jeph & the cast got a little peeved at critics at the Television Critics Association awards during a panel. Because all of the material out there right now, including the pilot they previewed at the Awards, is unfinished, it was all critics had to go on. So all of the questions they asked the panel was about how bad the quality is. Marvel ended the panel early before things got out of hand.

I don't think anything in the trailer looks necessarily bad per se' besides the syfy original program feel to it. The problem to me is that all this shit just screams blatant afterthought quick cash grab. It just doesn't look nowhere near as polished as the other marvel tv/Netflix series.

While the effects certainly weren't movie quality they're not the reason I felt this looked bad. The story seems stupid to md. Besides maybe Ramsay none of the actors really stood out or seemed interesting to watch. Much like other Marvel TV series they may "technically" be MCU cannon, with a near zero chance of any kind of cross over besides the occasional reference "hey remember how Captain America is a thing?!". Which means it has to stand on its own two feet, which from what I've seen, isn't very likely to happen.

Who knows, maybe we'll get a AoS situation where halfway through the season we'll get reports from people that it turns out it doesn't completely suck. Unfortunately we don't have someone like Clark Greggto keep us entertained until that happens.
