My thoughts are it feels about as fast as a new diablo 3 character does, at level one, and that certainly looked like some sort of beginner level to me. Later parts look much faster, during the raid bosses and the like. It's not just a D3 clone though, so it's more MMORPGish then D3 is.

Steparu had an article about it with some more info:

There have been three Letters from the Producer recently, talking about changes coming, as well as the Final Closed Beta Test Date of April 19th (or at least the signup for it). Click on the links to read it direly from a translated site, or read the summary on each one.

    Producer Letter #1

As far as the release process, this is the map they are following

    01. Battle

The general feedback was that the flow of combat needed to be changed. When you died, you sat idle for a while, until you rezzed, and the constant interrupting of skills, when hit, especially melee, has made them re-think the general flow of combat.

    Major Improvements include:

Get Up Trinket: The skill will is now basic and will work automatically, you don’t need any ability or coliseum rewards.

Crowd Control System Improvements: Added a meter over monsters so you can see remaining time and strategically utilize your CC during combat.

Attack Motion Reflex: We adjusted the frequency of skill usage for monsters in the leveling phase. Skills that will flinch you have been improved to add effects showing the attack range/radius and gives time for response.

In addition, we have introduced better Boss AI, Berserk System and Back-Attack Systems. Battles have been improved to make them more fun for users.

    02. AND ANICH…

There were some story issues that needed to be re-worked as well as traveling around the world.

Removed Forced Defeat: Removed the must-lose stage from Anich’s main quests; modified it so you first figure out how to win the opponent and then battle.

Reconstructing The Story: We reconstructed the story with a focus on the flow of the plot of Tournament and Habek.

Improved Quest Lines: Along with changing the location of some of the Squarehalls, we have changed the overall routing.

Epilogue Quests: Removed the epilogue quests that were deployed on each continent after the voyage, until the completion of the full main questline. (Could be after Max level)

More Squarehalls in every continent: Added more Squarehalls to the entire adventure zone, making it more convenient to travel.

    03. QUALITY OF LIFE(QoL) IMPROVEMENTS

Feedback was universal in that it took too long to prepare for specific battles, and inventory management was a real mess. so they are going to make the following changes.

Increase Bag Size and Disenchanting: Increased the default bag space, as well as added the ability to dis-enchant equipment on the fly. Cards have been moved to their own inventory section. You can also lock items to prevent disenchanting, discarded, or sold.

Skill Preset Templates: Added the ability to save skill templates that can be switched, on the fly, for the battle you are about to fight.

Improved Quest Lines: Along with changing the location of some of the Squarehalls, we have changed the overall routing.

In-game Glossary for Items: Many complaints about not know what an item was for were reported, so they added an in-game glossary, which can be searched to look up information about anything item you find.

Other changes include hiding helmet, and various UI improvements for several game sections.

    Producer Letter #2

    01. New classes

Hawkeye - Gunner Subclass: “Penetrate the enemy with an arrow of faith!"

    Spoiler: show

They can use their tactical skill combos to cause massive explosive damage or they can disrupt opponents with their stealth abilities.

Hawkeye’s unique combat style destroys the enemy’s will to fight back.

Gradually neutralize the opponent with arrows that slow the opponent’s movement speed and blind them for a short period.

The moment when the last bowstring is pulled to break the enemy’s breath, that moment is probably the last thing Hawkeye’s enemies will remember!

Hawkeye’s dancing arrows and stealth skills give your enemies a nightmare-like feeling of horror.

Soulmaster - Fighter Subclass: “Transcend the Limits of Inner Mind!”

    Spoiler: show

Soul Masteris a class who can use both physical melee attacks and ranged attacks that can neutralize an enemy from a distance.

Light, fast-paced cascaded attacks do not even give enemies time to think.

Soul Master can also exploit opponent’s attacks to counterattack them.

There are rumors about an intensive technique of the Soul Master who temporarily strengthened the body by exploding the enemy.

Feel the power of the Soulmaster hidden in that fragile body.

    02. Content

    Trial Passage

    Spoiler: show

They say that in the Trial passage, they have been able to endlessly train in the memories of the stronger encounters in their lives. The tribe was so strong that they defeated the Guardian by themselves. We are coming closer to unraveling the mystery of such strength.

    [Card battle ]

    Spoiler: show

The ‘card’ item, which occupied a corner of your warehouse and your inventory bag, will now return to the new card battle(TCG). In Lost Ark you will not only enjoy exciting adventures, but you also try out something fun like card battles. Cards can be obtained through various ways in the world. You can hunt monsters, help someone or give them a gift, or get rare cards in an incredibly difficult way. Cards can also be upgraded. Collect various cards scattered around the world of Lost Ark, and organize your own deck to enjoy various NPCs and card battles. Numerous card players are waiting for your challenge.

    [Trision Gate Training Center]

    Spoiler: show

Trision Gate Training center is a space where you can try out all the skills without worrying about spending the skill points. Trision Training center gives you an opportunity to try out new or unused skills, and learn how to use them more effectively. In the training center, you can summon training dummies or enemies that actually attack you.

    Producer Letter #3

    01. New Adventure Area

[Bern Castle is a large city on the Continent of Bern, where many various groups live together in harmony.]

    Spoiler: show

Located on a pristine landscape overlooking a panoramic view of the continent, the city of Bern features the beauty and pragmatic style of Bern’s typical architecture, especially, looking at the unique aesthetics of the queen’s highest spire. Owing to the open nature of her rule, Queen Aeadalin has incorporated the virtues of many different races and cultures, laying down a foundation for Bern’s development and by combining the magical power they carry with practical methods, they become a country that can compare with that of Luteran. Queen Aeadalin informs you that she has something to tell you in person–you should probably meet her.

[A desert wind blows in the ‘Red Sand Desert’.]

    Spoiler: show

You can sense that someone had been here for a while but there aren’t any signs of life. There’s an old machine without an operator that sits idling and growling ceaselessly. I see these transportation devices connected around the rugged desert. For what purpose were these placed here? Sometimes you can discover the bones of a giant creature that were exposed to the surface with only a trace they were once alive. Below the desert area is a place where underground water flows, a striking contrast to a harsh and desolate desert. There is very little signs of life in this place as red sand is flutters around to obstruct the view. The crows are cawing as they wander in search of food.

[Stern’s ‘Underground Arena’ is filled with spectators and fighting spirit. ]

    Spoiler: show

This is the city of Kenan, the underground arena of Stein, which pursues the evolution and development of the race through mechanization of the body. The Arena was initially a space for some Kenanese to test the performance of the modified bodies. Later it’s purpose was changed and after the illegal 1v1 matches became too popular it turned into an arena.. Despite the illegal elements being removed by the efforts of the Ardetain Council, the popularity of the arena has not diminished. Now, not only Kenan, but also any adventurer who wants to show his strength can take part in arena battles. At the underground arena here, the crowd can not keep in their excitement so they start throwing things into the arena which can affect the flow of the game.

How about you try out this new underground Arena in Stern?

    02. New Guardians

    [Akates]

    Spoiler: show

    [Kalelrigos]

    Spoiler: show

    [Yuho of the Black Night]

    Spoiler: show

I imagine the pictures probably load because you have them cached in your browser, but the board actually attempts to hot-link them and such is likely prohibited on their end. Basically, BG Bucket the shit (and probably put them in spoilers to avoid table breaking) since I doubt people will want to click each and every link.

They've long said they want to bring it to the West, but zero timeline details, just like their Korean release date. With as much work put into this game, I find it hard to think it wont; it's just how long it will take and if they pick a good publisher.

There's been an interview, with the director of Smilegate, which is the company producing Lost Ark:

Question and Summary of Answers, for those that don't click the link:

People are interested to know how Lost Ark will be managed. Brief explanation of your game management philosophy?

I’d like to share some of our thoughts one this matter. We really do not want any content with pay-walls in our game. A content that you have to play over and over and grind every day that forces you to pay is the same.

If paying cash puts you in an advantage from those who didn’t, that basically puts a pay-wall for playing that content. We think that it only makes sense for the *characters’ of Lost Ark to be able to reach the final goal purely with their efforts and dedication.

Our company respects our decision and supports us. Our development team has this philosophy in mind and are aiming to become a successive competition, not only in the Korean market, but in the global market.

What is your Philosophy when developing Lost Ark?

Any developer will have his own philosophy, greed and authenticity. I hope that the games developed in Korea will be recognized globally soon. In foreign countries, games such as ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’, ‘God of War’ and ‘Edith Finch’ are coming out, and the Japanese industry is completely revived with various masterpieces such as ‘Monster Hunter’ and “The Legend of Zelda”. While playing such games, I often thought that we are still lacking.

Of course, “Lost Arc” is a challenging challenger from overseas who are not easy compete with, but I hope that this game will plant a seed that can cause atleast a small change in our industry. It is not important how much money you earn, but when you look abroad we feel almost forced ti challenge since Korean game are followed so much. And as a maniac who does not have an RPG that I have not tried, it would be fantastic to make people who left the genre say “Yes, RPGs were so much fun”.

What kind of contents did the adventurers enjoy the most in 2nd CBT?

Aside from leveling, Tower of Shadow and the Cube from Sylian's Questline were the most popular. After gearing from them, they started doing the Guardian raids. Sailing was also much more popular then they thought it would be. There were also several that did the collection content as well.

A lot of feedback was about level of dependency for Bards being too high. Anything to add to this?

Bard healing was too strong due to having access to full party heal, and the hardest content has restricted healing potion usage. They are changing how bard by lowering the total amount healed, lowering their DPS if they spec for more healing, as well as more strategic healing usage, such as when and where to use it during battle.

We saw that ranged class had better incapacitating skills than the melee classes. Is there any change to this?

Ranged characters had an easier time staying alive and stunning enemies then melee characters, especially the Destoryer melee class having the hardest time staying alive with limited potions. They are going to make changes so that ranged classes can't stun as easily as melee classes.

If there are too many classes, balance adjustments will be difficult.

It's going to be hard to balance 12 classes, but we like how they have their various strengths in different content, but we'll do our best.

What kinds of classes do you plan to add in the future?

    18 classes are planned.

Many users complained about the inventory. Will there be a change?

They will increase inventory slots by 20 but the real problem were that cards were not used and took up space, and you had to go to an NPC to disenchant equipment. Now cards have their own tab and you can disenchant on the fly.

Cube and gambling gave the players high level items which made other contents obsolete. I wonder if these are CBT-only rewards.

The Cube rewards and gambling were added so people could gear up and enjoy the content offered. It won't be in the same form in release, so it doesn't have a negative affect on the content that provides said gear. Enjoy playing the content you like to gear up as max level.

I wonder why the slave-freeing system was developed.

Slave freeing is supposed to be a mini gatcha game where you may get something good, or not. It's there so you can do a good deed, and the company likes the idea of players doing good deeds. Also, other real-world scenarios will be encountered, such as melting polar ice caps, due to the pollution going on in Lost Ark, so that people can relate to real world issues. (um, okay?).

How far could the adventurers succeed in Guardian Raid for the 2nd CBT?

Players beat Berutooth of Despair, and internally, had only been down to 20% HP. That surprised them, so they are tuning the content accordingly. Players never cease to amaze them.

Will there be an UI-off feature next time?

    Yes

The blueprint from the Letter of Risha said the Final CBT was planned after the 3rd CBT. What was the reason behind the change of plan?

They think a CBT should allow for as much criticism as possible, so that they could improve the game faster, due to the feedback. Some changes you'll be able to see, others you won't, but they estimate 80% of the feedback they received is reflected in the next beta.

Most think that communication with the users is an important part of game management. I wonder how Lost Ark will do that.

Communication is important to us and the core is listening to feedback and implementing in the right way. The director leveled several classes to 50 so that he better understood the game. They hope players see how much feedback was considered in the new beta.

I want to know what the main interest of Final CBT is.

I have a very clear answer for this. If the 2nd CBT was about sending a message to the adventurers, Final CBT is about their reaction to the game. In other words, we polished the contents and fixed many part of the game for convenience.

The story was received very well by the players. How will the story progress in the future?

It's a simple story, but that allowed them to tell it from the point of view of the adventurere, why they traveled with Aman and help Sylian reclaim his throne. The story won't be done when you finish collecting all the Arks either; it won't become “One Piece where the characters has One Piece already”. We have that planned as well, so you guys can look forward to it like ‘One Piece of One Piece’.

The Characters all felt pretty dead in the cut scenes, any changes done to battle that?

Since the cutscenes were not developed with facial movements in mind it was difficult to change it now, but the development team is working hard on it because the players liked the ‘Lost Arc’ story more than expected.

Will the levelling up time be shortened in the Final CBT? Like a mount…

Yes, leveling will be shortened somewhat, and mounts will be available at L15, after completing a quest. They have also updated the game so that, in Tortoyk region, remember the character becomes small? We thought it was awkward having to feed your mount the potion as well, so you’ll get a ladybug as a Tortoyk-only mount. Personaly, the directer feels that enjoying max level content, not the leveling process in and of itself.

Can you explain the card battle content any further?

It's just a mini-game you can play against NPC or PCs, but only NPC will be viable in the beta. They originally poo-pood the idea, but they took care to make new enemies for each area, and limit re-skinning mobs, and they wanted way to document the enemies you've come across, in an appealing way. It's more of a collection aspect of the game, so it won't be pointedly complex that isn't required gameplay.

Costumes are really important in RPGs nowadays. Will there be a system to freely change the character’s apparel?

It's in development, and there will be no stat boosts associated with them, so that you can freely wear what you want to wear.

Will the game support DirectX11 in the future?

Testing it, but they optimized it for DirectX9.

Risha’s Letter didn’t mention anything about Sailing content. Was anything changed?

CBT2 only had the basic sailing content enabled. Depth of the ocean will come into play, providing better items if you can find sailors that can dive deaper. Object generation has been changed form static, to random, so you'll see different things as you sail around the same place. They've also made certain seas more dangerous, but more rewarding to venture through.

How many islands are being added? Also, how are islands developed?

30 islands. They developed them like each was their own Indie game, so there is a lot of variety. If you really like one, you can do a daily there to help level your character.

Will there be any guild content?

Guild War is on their blueprint, but for now, it's just a social way to communicate with friends.

Risha’s Letter told us nothing about PvP balance. There were many feedback saying Warlord is overpowered. Were there any changes to the balance?

Yes, particular to the Warlord class, but they want to understand why a class is OP before making changes. All classes will be approached in the same manner; understand why and make better changes then just straight number cuts to health and/or DPS.

A lot of feedback pointed out that there were too many stuns and long down time, making PvP a bad experience.

They want stuns and "downed" attacks to be high risk/reward. If there's little to no risk in using an ability that does either, they want to remove it and add it to ones that are risky to use, such as long wind ups with telegraphs. Having too many, or too few, isn't good for an ARPG.

A lot of people really like the BGM and OST. Is there any plan on making them available for purchase?

    Yes.

Who are the new raid bosses and what are their characteristics?

The new Raid Boss, the Guardians, are Akates, Kalelrigos, and Yuho of the Blackest Night and they will each have two elements, for a variety to fights. More guardians are being developed.

Will there be any large-scale Guardian Raid in the future?

It's in development, but even with 8 people, it gets hard to see what exactly is going on. Just adding more people to content doesn't make it fun, so they are trying to get this right for their game.

It is true that when too many players are on one screen, you cannot see yourself. How will you improve on this?

It is the limit of quarter-view games itself that Lost Ark will have to solve in the future. Completely fixing this issue won’t be possible but we are trying our best to think of a work around to fix this problem.

Will you do reverse console porting? Or will you add at least pad support?

No console ports planned, but gamepad support will be.

Any idea on when the OBT or official release will be?

Discussing when the exact release date will be.

Looks like the next batch of testers will be chosen on 5/18, but if you were in CBT1/2, you can sign up until 6/03, so we likely won't see CBT3 until after that date.

Looks like CBT3 is starting up in about 24 hours or so. Streamers should be up and running around that time.

So the Lost Ark CBT3 is over, and there were quite a lot of changes to the game, and, not surprisingly, that's the content most streamers were showing. Below is what I saw on streamers, but if it's anything like what happened between CBT2 and CBT3, Smilegate will take player feedback, as well as their own data, and make a lot of changes to further improve the game.

    Gear Progression:

Finishing the story gets you to 250+, which enables you to do the first tier of gear, and the tiers appear to go up to 550, IIRC. The higher tiers require higher gear score, which you get from running the content within a tier. Within each tier is various content, but can only drop specific gear slots, such as accessories. So you're usually doing the content, within the tier, that drops the gear slots you need to progress to the next tier. You can also enchant gear that didn't Titan/Warforge, to use a WoW term, as well as crafting gear, so there are various ways to progress your character.

There were some ways to skip tiers, so if you were able to down a world boss, or complete floors in the Tower, you could get equipment that raised your score well into further tiers, and skip some grinding. Another way is doing Island content lets you get currency, and collecting enough lets you purchase full gear sets of increasing gear level, depending on how much currency it costs. The streamers I watched did hardly any island content unless there was a progression dungeon there, but the content is supposed to have a variety of activities to do; some of them are one time only, for the currency drop, while others just have a chance to drop it like a daily quest. There's also a ghost pirate ship that drops pretty high level gear, but I never saw that so it might have been higher i-level then what beta players got to.

A specific note about end game world bosses in this CBT: they were fairly hard to down not because they were difficult, but because they have a 30 minute timer, once engaged, so you have to have the DPS to do it. The problem is that the game uses channels, which are specific instances of that zone, so if it fills up with baddies or too many low i-level PCs, you won't be able to kill it in time. You also aren't guaranteed a drop either, but it does have some sort of auction system where everyone that participated can bid in-game gold for the various items in the pool. If you don't win the bid, it seems the gold is split between all players, so you'll at least get that money + whatever else it may have dropped. It's a great way to boost your i-level, but I doubt it will stay this way, due to the channel problem and lechers who knew about the drops, but who knows.

It wasn't without its problems though. Getting the drop you needed, to progress to the next tier, was gated by RNG, so you may have had to run that one dungeon/boss a lot of times before you got what you wanted. If you couldn't enchant your gear or craft something better, you could become stuck until it did drop. Some of the content, within a tier, didn't even drop high enough i-levels for anyone to even run, so a lot of it was actually ignored. Wouldn't be hard to fix that, but it does seem like half the tier levels could be removed and just increase the i-level drops within tiers to compensate.

    Enchanting:

The basics is that you disenchant gear you don't need, in order to add stars to the equipment you are using, to raise your gear score, with the caviot that you can't enchant gear that already rolled stars when it dropped. Also, to enchant a gear, within a tier, usually requires you to disenchant gear within that tier, which usually isn't a problem since you tend to get a lot of gear you don't need, trying to get the one piece of gear you do need, to get to the next tier level. Also, I never saw anything break, and I'm pretty certain that can't happen.

    Crafting:

You can also craft pretty much any gear slot, at any tier level, if you prefer. Doing this usually requires mats from various content within a tier though, so again, you're likely doing it to fill in that one gear slot you need to get to the next tier. It also seems to take Life Skill materials, obtained from doing activities such as mining, logging, herbing, and others. It appears you only have a certain amount of Life Skill points to use, so you can't become a master at everything, lending to the in-game economy. I don't know if you can actually sell crafted gear on the AH, but I don't think you can.

    Class Balance:

The streamer consensus was that, between the Soulmaster and Hawkeye, the Hawkeye was clearly over tuned. It had much more mobility and damage in PVE and PVP. In general, ranged classes are still a clear winner over-all, with Arcana far ahead of everything but Hawkeye. Personally, I saw good things from Warlords, but they were pretty damn good players. In PvP, damage was pretty much what mattered, as all classes have CC and a teleport mechanism, so it mostly came down to the damage. In the 1v1, it was usually a landslide, but in the 3v3 content, you had some really good battles, and people weren't popping like a balloon either way. Clear winners were Arcana, Hawkeye, and Warlord, the latter due to their anti CC/damage shield that was constantly up. If I had to guesstimate class popularity, based on what I saw, it was Arcana/Hawkeye, Soulmaster, Warlord, then everything else.

The problem that makes range classes "better" is that they can usually kite things much easier, which was important for early gearing through the Tower content. With limited resurrection, healing, and daily attempts, if you did not have a build that could kite and do damage, you geared up a lot slower because you couldn't complete the Tower content to significantly boost your gear level. You never lost floor progress, but some floors were a big brick wall for melee classes that a ranged class never ran into.

Regarding class skills and the build templates, it wasn't as flexible as I thought it might be. At max level, you have a certain amount of skills that you can pick, out of the total available to a class, which lets you somewhat customize what you want to do. Within the skills that you select, you can further customize them with various options and create a "build". These "builds" can be saved and swapped around, almost at leisure, but if you wanted to pick a different skill, you had to use a skill reset potion, of which were very limited. Usually, they were used to change your skill set so that you could get passed a Tower road block, but I could easily see that being a cash shop item. Of course, if they fix melee class kiting issues, that might not be necessary.

    New Content:

I only got one look at the Trial Passage content, and here's how it works. It's pretty high i-level content, around 400, and it's a gauntlet style activity where you have a certain amount of time to down a random dungeon/story boss. As you clear levels, harder bosses show up, with more HP, and I saw up to three at a time before the group failed. It dropped some sort of currency that I didn't see get used, but I would have to assume it's for gear.

Card battles were only available against NPC, but it's a really simple system that didn't seem to have many rewards right now. Cards are dropped from enemies mostly, and to battle, you pick your cards and the game plays automatically for you. It's all just rounds of each card attacking, and it uses a system of elemental weakness and strengths, so you can build a deck to beat a certain NPC. Artwork is really nice though.

    Achievements:

Nobody really explained much about this, since it didn't seem to be tied to increasing your gear score, but there were a ton for each section (not sure how a section is classified though), and completing various percentages rewarded the player, but since nobody talked about it, I can't say much more.

    Conclusion:

They have some work to do, but if this game released now, on Steam, it would have more content then most games have at their end of life, and it's not even officially released yet. It seems really well optimized, and almost devoid of any game-crashing bugs. Even the World Boss content, with 50 some players at once, the client never had a problem handling it, and non-Korean streamers had no problems participating in any content. I would not be surprised at all if this becomes something huge in the NA/EU market, once a more popular streamer gets a hold of it and exposes it to more people. While it isn't really Diablo, if Blizzard incorporated aspects into Diablo 4, it would be an incredibly huge game, and they really should be taking note: not because it's some WoW killer, but because there's a lot of good, well executed ideas here.

Thanks for the write up, the games defiantly caught my eye.

Tried watching a few streams but couldn't put a ton of time into them to see what was going on. 5hour youtube videos have been a good filler xD

EDIT: Is there an easy explanation anyone can give on how to play the Korean version until a Western version is maybe eventually released?

Its like most or all Korean games, need a Korean SS#, need to be able to read or decipher the website to log in and create an account, then DL the game etc. Might be best if you found a fansite for Losk Ark, as they almost always have a pinned thread on how to do this.
