I can only assume the source on that was an article from Chosun Ilbo that was going around a while ago. The part that caught traction was a terrible translation. The CEO didn't say that the localization will be in the next patch. He said that they are aiming for English speaking regions when they eventually expand their launch out of just Korea.

    Right, which isn't news then.

What is news is that there is a community English translation patch out there now, for UI and such. 20% done or so.

So, I have both Battlemaster and Arcana at max level now, along with a couple others in the mid 30s. The game's systems start off really slow. Too slow, in my opinion. Some classes, like Battlemaster, are fairly fun from the start, but others really don't pick up until much later. Arcana, since I know it fairly well, is really squishy and frustrating until you hit max level, do the Awakening quest, and get all your skills.

Endgame progress is fantastic. There are basically three paths that you can take: Raiding, Exploration, and Crafting. Raiding is obviously raiding. Kill raid bosses, craft gear with the drops, and then kill harder bosses to upgrade that gear. Last week they added a raid finder, which has made finding groups a little easier. However, you have to all be in the same city before the raid can be started, so it still could use some tweaks. Overall, the raid bosses are fairly fun and challenging, but the hardest part is really finding competent party members.

Exploration is, honestly, my favorite part of the game. Once you get a boat in the upper 30s, you can explore the various islands around the world. Each island has its own theme, and usually some quests. Each island also has a heart, which you have to figure out how to get. Some are super easy, some are wild goose chases, and some are just straight RNG. Collecting hearts allows you to get gear, which is (generally) not as strong as raid gear, but is easily upgraded. Island exploration is super casual, relaxing, and fun, though your mileage may vary.

Crafting gear comes from, well, crafting (called 'Life Skills' in game). There aren't crafting skills, but there are a handful of various gathering skills. NPCs in the main cities can craft gear for you, assuming you have the items. Gathering skills are very grindy, but the gear you can craft is very strong. Also, if you want to go for raiding gear you will want to level a gathering skill a bit because you will need to be able to make battle items (health pots, bombs, etc), which require gathering mats. The general consensus is that crafting gear is both too inefficient and doesn't have enough stats to really be worth aiming for unless you really love gathering.

Alright, criticism time. Despite there being a ton of content in the game, very little of it is actually worthwhile at any given time. The endgame is set up as a series of item level gates. It doesn't matter if you choose to gear through raiding, exploration, PVP, or crafting, or a combination of whatever. The result is the same. Depending on your item level, there is only one relevant raid, one relevant Chaos Dungeon, or one relevant item to grind for exploration gear. Admittedly, I don't care about PVP and have never done PVP in this game, so perhaps that gear progression system is more flexible.

As soon as your progress out of one piece of content, there is absolutely no reason to ever run any of the previous content. However, you can't progress at such a rate that multiple tiers of content are available to you. At first, this isn't a big deal because progression is fairly rapid. However, as your item level climbs, you will be forced to just run the exact same content over and over every day until you can hit the next ilvl tier. Then you run that ilvl-specific content. The treadmill is real, and gets old fast once you get past the first raid tier.

    Some Lost Ark News,

Various Asian websites have claimed that the ongoing hiring for an unnamed mobile “New Project” is for the mobile version of Lost Ark. Open positions for this project include animators, planners (scenarios, combat) and client developers.

Smilegate is hiring aggressively for the PC version as well on its recruitment website. Some postings for Lost Ark , such as the one for a Client Developer, are asking for experience on both Unreal Engine 3 and 4.

Remember that all of these are rumors based on the multiple recent job listing at Smiligate's recruitment website, but is most likely to be true since I've herd that hand a couple people that applied for the job of localizing the game to English.

As of now Smilegate seems that only wants to hand the license of the game to Russia and China third party publishers while internally developing the American and European versions and self publishing through their western branch called Z8.

    TL/DR Version

Lost Ark aggressively hiring for Western port with possible upgrade to UE4.

It also made the equivalent of 26 million in two months of open beta, where as all of 2018 operating expenses were 51 million, so that's not a bad start, considering that's just S.Korea. Seems like it could use a grindable loot drop system, at end game, as it's mostly daily/limited dungeon/raid content to farm mats to upgrade/craft the next tier of gear. If that's all that interests you, then it's a couple hours a day and log off, but if you want to do everything you actually can do in the game, it's got a lot of content to see/do.

    New class "The Holy Knight/Paladin"

Also it's in Open Beta in Russia right now. Don't need any weird things with this one, just a VPN, no buying accounts that you can't re-verify etc.

It's coming out in Japan in Q1 2020. Still no word on a western release though..

    Sigh... ; ;

This game will do well in the West. I wonder why there is no interest for them to do that. This game has some of the most impressing combat animations.

Indeed. By the time they do bring it here, we'll have POE2 and D4 sucking things dry. RU server isn't getting this for probably six months, though my understanding of what's changing, they were needed changes.

Looks like Smilegate is recruiting a project manager for Lost Ark EU/NA. Maybe there is some hope for a western release.

I'm sure all 3 people who will still want to play it after what a clusterfuck of MTX bullshit it has been in other regions will be thrilled in the year 2025.

Just an update on what is happening in Korea.

The next expansion is coming on Dec. 30th.

    - New continent, called South Bern. It comes with a new lvl cap of 60. New quests, and new cut scenes to further the story.

    - New raids called Legion Commander Raids. This will feature 6 '16' man raids led by a different corp, each with different ways.

    - New loli race. This race will come with 3 new classes.

Lastly classes will remain gender locked for a while because they're developing each opposing gender of each class as a separate class (e.g. male Devil Hunter vs. female Gunslinger). The opposing variant has some different skills, animations, and ultimate's meaning they won't play exactly the same. They're treated as lite new classes compared to full-on new classes like the upcoming 4th mage.

First is the new Gunslinger class. The female counterpart of the Devil Hunter class. While there are some similarities in skills and gameplay, there are elements which make her unique as well.

Next up will be the male counterpart of the Battle Master class, currently known as Striker. He will be released at a later time.

Okay, I'd always liked the female striker class, and some interest in the summoner mage class, but that Gunslinger one just hits all the right buttons for me. It's such a travesty this isn't released outside of Korea/RU so far...
