Cliff Curtis has been cast as the male lead in AMC”s “Walking Dead” companion series, Variety has confirmed.

While AMC declined to confirm character details for Curtis’ role, based on the breakdowns for the new spinoff obtained by sister site TVLine, it’s believed he’ll play Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher described as “a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life,” and father to Sean, his “whip-smart and rebellious teenage son.”

Beginning a story in medias res is a common device- and I do think it can add an element of intrigue early on in a narrative. However, too often this is used as an excuse to never go back and explain why things are- when that's so often what people are waiting for.

In news that bodes well for the eventual Mad Men spinoff, AMC has already granted its Walking Dead spinoff two seasons—just like it did for Better Call Saul. That comes from Deadline, which also reports that the series will start with a six-episode first season—just like vanilla Walking Dead—that will air “in late summer,” with a possibly full-length season airing some time in 2016. As we’ve previously reported, the still-untitled spinoff will take place in Los Angeles, and it will star Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam Carey.

I am excited to finally see how the outbreak started and spread. I wonder if it will eventually branch off to show other parts of the world, like is Australia and Japan affected by the outbreak as well?
