FUCK YEAH THEY LANDED THAT MOTHERFUCKER!
FUCK YEAH THEY LANDED THAT MOTHERFUCKER!
HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME
Speechless. No words, only emotions right now.
BOOYA
ALL 11 SATELLITES DEPLOYED
man
100% success and landing
unbelievable
Stick that up your dickhole Bezos.
So when are they gonna re-use it?
Also fuck ya.
I expect that first stage to go through intense study, to near complete dis-assembly. That one will probably never fly again.
There is nothing that guarantees that rocket is legitimately able to withstand another launch until they do that, or decide to throw money at it and launch it for Science with no payload. I wouldn't want to put my payload on the First one to come back.
I love that the first stage's complete journey takes like 11 minutes round trip only, and that it lands before the satellite deployment even starts.
i think re-usability is more about recouping costs than actually literally using the same lifter. i'm sure most of it can be broken down into parts that can be sold and used perfectly safely for other things. eventually we'll probably get to the actual re-use of lifters, but i think for a while they'll be tested and scrapped.
They were talking quite a bit about "rapid refueling and reuse" - although Elon is prone to bluster.
Bezos being a douche:

Congrats @SpaceX on landing Falcon's suborbital booster stage. Welcome to the club!
How is that being a douche? Elon congratulated him when he landed his stage 1. Or is it because the SpaceX rocket was bigger and not in the same "league"?
Bezos went straight up and down. Sure it reached space, but it's a hell of a lot different when you are going for orbital velocity and then landing afterwards. Apples and oranges, and he knows it.

I didn't see Elon at Hawthorne MC, was he at Canaveral?
Nvm, Found him.

That officially answers your question Jaybar. The plan, Musk said, is to take the booster from Landing Zone 1 to SpaceX's other site at Cape Canaveral, Launch Complex 39A. There, the company will perform a static fire test — where the rocket is held down and the engines are fired at full thrust — on the launchpad to confirm that the rocket's systems are still in good shape. After that, the company will find out whether this particular rocket could fly again...
Video taken from LZ-1 up close to Stage 1 landed. Thing looks fucking majestic.

I was sick as fuck yesterday, didn't even get out of bed until this was long over. History missed...dammit!
This is amazing stuff. Kudos to everyone at SpaceX for making this happen. When my kids are grown up this will be common place, pretty cool to see the very first landing. And you're right Waraji, majestic is a perfect word for that shot.
I can't wait to see the results of their post landing analysis. Even one reuse of the first stage would be a pretty big deal.
